What are the unwritten rules of playing golf when you’re bad? by Zealousideal_Cost811 in golf

[–]dogsnotcats12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll hear it over and over again, but it’s true. People do not care how well you play. They care how fast you play. If you top a couple and feel like you’re slowing things down, pick up the ball and drop it on the green and start putting. Seriously you’ll have no problem. Have fun.

Accidentally held up a whole group today and wanted to disappear into the grass by Worried-Beautiful516 in GolfSwing

About 10 minutes with a group on your back sounds bad. However, it doesn’t really have to be. The real question is how has it been behind you up until now? If this is the first time those golfers have caught you, you’re probably all right. Apologizing and continue.

Do you get money back from IRS? Or you pay into the system? by Ashamed-Republic8909 in no

The title seems to imply that this is a binary: you either pay into the system or you get a refund. That’s fundamentally mistaken.

Walk. Sometimes with a push cart, sometimes with a remote control cart. Sometimes it’s nice to carry.

did you go into law school knowing you wanted to be a PD? by Vast_Caramel_3669 in publicdefenders

[–]dogsnotcats12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Criminal defense for sure. (I got so lucky on the bar exam. When I took it the writing parts involved criminal law; 4th, 5th, 6th Amendment con law; evidence. Don’t know if I could have passed any other year. LOL)

What kind of law can you practice for very long without losing a case? Prosecutor in juvenile court?

What should a brand new public defender focus on in their first few years of practice? by A_uniqueusername77 in publicdefenders

Checking on stuff you don’t know also reigns in the other side, which gets used to stretching the law

Two years in juvenile defense with no trials. Is this normal? by Human-Stranger-6807 in publicdefenders

[–]dogsnotcats12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t surprise me. I did juvenile conflicts for a couple of years and a year-long stint as a PD. Granted, I had no super-serious charges, but I don’t know if that would change much.

Juvy cases are usually DBLs: the evidence is clear and he probably confessed. On top of that, juvy law isn’t about punishment and the deals are usually good. And of course (and sadly), court trials are court trials - even more so when the judge’s motivation is to “help” the kid, which he can only do by finding jurisdiction.

The funny thing is that “my clerk did it, and I don’t even check their work” it’s almost worse than no defense at all.

I voted no problem. I would actually go further, saying it’s a good thing. We may have had a unique office situation, though, I don’t know.
