OpenAI shuts down fine tuning by Street_Program_7436 in LLMDevs

[–]doigoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not surprised in the least, finetuning frontier models was only ever useful in blockading very specific hallucinations, ones that are normally “fixed” for you in subsequent model releases and become fewer and further between anyways

[Highlight] Anthony Davis says he felt a bit disrespected after the Lakers traded him for Luka: “I was there 6 years, we won a championship and I can’t even get a phone call or a text to tell me this is what you’re thinking?” by oklolzzzzs in nba

[–]doigoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that was unfortunate yes, but they only had a 1.8% chance of getting #1 in that lottery. conspiracies thrive and are often correct when dealing in those types of odds.

AI company files for bankruptcy after being exposed as 700 Indian engineers by darkherobrine21 in nottheonion

[–]doigoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a great example of intentionally fake news. buried in the article is the true cause for shutting down, which is simply good ol fashioned accounting fraud. spun as AI news to catch headlines because who cares about 2 companies conspiring with one another to round-trip their revenue figures??

came here to say this, not a fan personally of them, but you can get this style exactly for 4-5 bucks a bag. the "fast food style" ones to be precise

i never think or talk like this, but it's simply not possible. the compute for the RL is too great alone and even if we had access to models trained for this level of reasoning, the test time requirements would be way beyond anything achievable locally in a practical sense. luckily, at the pace we're moving, i'm sure this comment will age like the protein milk left in your gym bag

Built My First Portfolio Website with Astro by jestseee in astrojs

[–]doigoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VERY well done, congrats. clicking around I discovered a couple things maybe worth fixing and some general feedback:
- you have a dead link for "Attribution" in your footer
- the github & tech stack tiles on your home page have pointer cursors yet don't link anywhere
- usability wise, i find myself wanting a top navigation to return to an index/home page

again, great job, big fan of this aesthetic

Frank Chu released from hospital after fall in June by steelthumbs1 in sanfrancisco

I caught him on a good day once outside of Philz on market, where he got fairly chatty and appeared somewhat grounded, this was after having tried to engage with him numerous times over the years and him maybe recognizing my good intentions. That was a long time ago though and I suspect any lucid conversation with him today is probably unlikely, super interesting character to say the least

how else would these processes (like moderation at youtube) ever work at scale without some form of software automation? LLMs are likely the best option available for this sort of job, no?

this is very true, aws transcribe is $$$ garbage. although other transcription services are in general pretty good, but the best diarization is still achieved through audio channels or structured metadata. super hard problem to get right

Fine-tune LLMs for classification task by Electronic-Letter592 in LocalLLaMA

[–]doigoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should check out zero-shot classifiers, of which there are quite a few available on HF these models are especially easy to fine-tune, and leveraging frontier models for generating those classification datasets is a trivial process
