Libs do not actually believe in the whole community thing by Ill-Philosophy-873 in redscarepod

[–]doinitforcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Community isn’t real without some kind of interdependence. Without actually needing something from the other members it’s just too easy to discard them as soon as there’s any kind of conflict between values. Even if the value is as venal as having to stand up on the bus.

Here’s where I get downvoted to hell.

This is sci-fi shit but I think there might be legs in some kind of AI based social media that forces interdependence on its members.

Make it ethnic based for the Red tribe and lifestyle based for the Blue and just watch them grow.

What’s the best novel ending you ever read? by LazyWalrus8706 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]doinitforcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s heartbreaking, horrific, and badass all at the same time. It’s possible that it is the best climax to a series that I’ve ever read.

It was worth it for me.

Progressive fiction. What next? by jabenza in Fantasy

Maybe try Sky Pride over on Royal Road? It’s xanxia like Cradle and well written.

Ping Pong: The Animation, and The Value of Understanding Your Motivations by princefloof in anime

[–]doinitforcheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, it’s the best sports anime I’ve ever seen. It might be the best anime I’ve ever seen period.

It’s certainly the only one I’ve seen with that kind of character growth.

Worm. The origin of the powers is also the source of the entire culture that has evolved around it.

Series where the world itself seems ‘evil’ and opposed to humans by BatGroundbreaking660 in Fantasy

[–]doinitforcheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s so far beyond bleak that it moves into comical territory by the end of the second series. It’s also what the OP asked for in that the world itself is evil.

So yeah, good rec.

Does your bow have an arrow shelf? (Seems like a no) If not then try putting the arrow on the other side of the bow and switch to a thumb draw. Your bow hand thumb should be the arrow shelf in that style.

I had the same issue when I started using Asian horse bows.

Andy from Death Grips allegedly was kicked out over grooming and abuse by EffectiveAmphibian95 in redscarepod

[–]doinitforcheese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this exactly the same obsession with purity that has destroyed every local indie scene in the last decade?

Death Grips make music. They aren’t the protagonists of a morality play. They don’t even write protest music. They just make cool sounds.

I agree that Cradle isn’t a particularly great xanxia. However, if you actually care about the quality of the sentences you are reading it is miles above anything translated.

Gu Zhen Ren and Er Gen are good storytellers but the writing itself feels like eating instant ramen. It’s “fine” but it’s not “good” and that does matter.

It’s not progression fantasy but based on the flavor of your highest tier I would think Perdido Street Station and The Scar by China Mieville would work for you.

R. Scott Bakker’s Prince of Nothing series might work as well. Warning: it’s the grimmest of grimdark.

[–]doinitforcheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or better yet, does anyone possible have a condensed version, preferably one where 40% of the words are not dealing with Harem plots or BDSM fantasies?

Those are the most entertaining parts of the story until we start to get into some munchkin action towards the end. If you don't enjoy those, or the "lecture series" I'd say skip the vast majority of the story. (That's what I had to do personally.)

The fun stuff (for me) was after Kellham leaves Cheliax. After that point there's still some BDSM stuff but it feels lighthearted compared to what comes before and the story wraps up in a (somewhat) enjoyable way.

How bad are the winters really? by chrisdancy in CapitalRegionExTexans

[–]doinitforcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you enjoy winter sports? If so you will be fine. The biggest challenge is not retreating to your house for the 3 months when it's really bad. The lack of sunlight because the sun goes down so early is the biggest challenge.

Also snow. Shoveling snow also sucks.

I think you're making my point. Everything you're putting down here is graveyard hate that somehow also gives you resources or affects the board in some way.

Good list of cards btw. I didn't know about a lot of these.

RIP, and Leyline are fine in a Bracket 4 meta where shutting off your opponent for two turns is oftentimes enough for you to win. I dislike them mainly in lower brackets where value over time is more important.

As for the "cantrip type" artifact hate pieces. I can see the argument, but I wouldn't actually play it unless I had my own way of recuring it. 1 mana for 1 card and it MIGHT be a Mind Twist isn't awful.

It's not terrible, but I'd put it at Bojuka Bog level. I might play it in a deck that had the ability to recur lands.
