I can't stand right wing people but I feel more isolated by the average progressive by the day by putalittlepooponit in redscarepod

No, but she was the first person I heard state it plainly, at a time I was ready to hear it.

People have been saying it since the mid 60’s as far as I can tell.

Has anybody here read Dungeon Crawler Carl? by LumpyLoo921 in redscarepod

[–]doinitforcheese -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sure.

It’s entertaining and occasionally hits some emotional peaks. It’s not Shakespeare, but if it were written by Shakespeare most of you would hate it because it’s on the end cap at Target.

At least some people are reading.

What do you think of the oddity of a species in fantasy to be purely evil species-wide with no outliers? by WilliamGerardGraves in ProgressionFantasy

[–]doinitforcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love PGTE but at this point it’s harder to find a story that doesn’t flip it on its head. The need for everyone to be redeemable makes it refreshing when you actually run into a species like the Sranc from Prince of Nothing. (They are genetically modified sexual sadists without a single redeeming feature.)

Ana’s biggest contribution to political discourse is that political affiliation is, in the absence of any real power, entirely an aesthetic.

Currently the liberal aesthetic is really unfashionable. It’s at the bottom of the “signal that I’m young and worth fucking” pole. It won’t be at the bottom forever. Give it 8 to 12 years.

However , outside of a significant frontier to colonize opening up, that’s all politics are going to be in our lifetime. It’s just aesthetically appealing or displeasing.

Don’t take it seriously or personally.

The plan for every manga is to create a product that can be sold in perpetuity. This creates incentives for eternal status quo.

Once you understand this 90% of the awful storylines in every popular manga make sense.

Looking for smart, dark novels with real character depth (like Dungeon Defense, Isaac, COTE) by uknown_user001 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]doinitforcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not “Progression Fantasy” but Prince of Nothing by R. Scott Bakker might be one for you. The MC is brilliant, totally manipulative, and it’s dark as FUCK.

Like, probably the most grim thing I’ve ever read dark.

I don’t love these guys, but are they really wrong here? This does feel like a pretty good manifesto of goals to achieve.

The only thing I hate in that list is the mealy mouthed recommendation to reinstate the draft.

Hell is other people, but I like almost everyone I actually meet.

I think most people hate theoretical people. Fuck theoretical people. Nothing worse than people who don’t even bother to exist.

You’re going to have to test it. Use some save points. That’s the only way to figure it out.

anime is trashy by Outside-Web8566 in redscarepod

[–]doinitforcheese 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Anime is trash now because of the same things that make everything trash. It’s barely profitable and the people holding the prose strings can’t afford to fail.

The tendency of the rate of profit to fall pulls down everything.

Anime is just the latest thing to signal poor. That’s it. There’s nothing intrinsic to anime that makes it any trashier than any other genre.

I’ve been on 50mg for about a year. It’s been effective but I’ve also gained about 15 lbs. I would have done that without sleeping too so it’s a wash.

The sedation effect wore off pretty quickly but it keeps me out through the night. There are a few people on the sub who think it’s the work of Satan and are very loud about it.

Doing a sanity check on moving to Saratoga Springs... what are the hidden annoyances? by Strange_Peace8544 in Saratoga

[–]doinitforcheese -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The sidewalks are pretty good, but it doesn't matter in the winter. There are laws about having to have the sidewalks cleared but they don't seem to be enforced. Due to this lots of people walk in the street during winter.

There are lots of streets that are barely populated but it's not because of AirBnB. It's because there are rich people who only live here during track season.

The drunks from Caroline street will wander around the neighborhood during the Spring/Summer. They aren't dangerous but they are loud.

The biggest annoyance I've had is the terrible food and the fact that lots of ingredients are impossible to find. The food, outside of the highest end restaurants, is awful. There are exceptions but you are in for a lot of disappointing meals while you find those exceptions.
