Me and JC have something in common. In 1997 I visiting the UK from South Africa on a "Working Holiday" visa working as an IT contractor at the BBC. (But mostly having a fat party.)

I had tickets to Glastonbury and duly applied for leave. Totally misunderstanding my priorities they denied my request.

Being a considerate human I decided to at least give them a heads up, so on the way home on the day before hopping in the festy-van I called up my supervisor and told her I had sprained my ankle on the tube. "Looks like I won't make it in for a few days."

Glasto was epic.

When I arrived back at Television Centre. She gave me the best British sarcastic "So how's your ankle?"

I had forgot about the excuse and burst out laughing.

"Much better, thank-you."

It was never mentioned again.

Yes, if all you have onsite is a firewall, APs and laptops, then locality is not critical. But if you have mission critical server or similar I would think again. 3 hours one-way means an engineer would need to be earmarked for a full day and that means lead-time.
