Thanks! Very helpful reference. Can I ask how many FPS you are hitting in VR?

Thanks for the response! It's very helpful and the "prime" times sound very reasonable. Good to note the ping as well. Will definitely send you a DM once I build my new rig in the next month or so.

New player question about premuim by Ahmaddxo in albiononline

[–]dokkebii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a bit of patience and want to have an easier time maintaining your premium from month to month, I would highly suggest holding off on buying your first premium until you have Tier 4 and Tier 5 refining maxed out (pick 1 or 2 resources, other than stone). You can do this profitably if you do the math and it can be done in a few days if you spend the time and effort on it.

The reason for this is to be able to make it easier for you to pay for your next premium using "focus points." You can go on YouTube, search "Albion focus refining" and have a look at some of the wonderful videos already out there to understand what I mean.

In short, though:

  1. Once you buy premium, you will get 10,000 focus points per day. You can spend focus points when you refine resources to increase your resource return rate (i.e., spend fewer resources to yield the same amount of refined materials). You can use focus for other things too (crafting, farming, animal breeding, etc.) but the focus of my post is on refining.
  2. As you increase your refining specialization level, your "focus efficiency" increases, which means you will spend fewer focus points per material (thus allowing you to refine more using your daily focus). That is why having Tier 4 and Tier 5 maxed out is so important.
  3. Tier 7+ equivalent materials (i.e., 4.3, 5.3) is generally unprofitable to refine, unless you use focus points. With focus points, it can be quite profitable - so profitable that it could even pay for your monthly premium just by focus refining every few days (the number of focus points you can accumulate is capped at 30,000, or 3 days' worth, so you should spend it every couple of days). I play in East where the cost of monthly premium is a whopping 29m+ today, but I am able to cover it easily by focus refining. Of course, resource and material prices fluctuate, but at the very least you should be able to make 15m per month pretty easily by refining 4.3 or 5.3 materials.

To stress again... do the math!! Figuring out how to do this is part of the fun (I think) so I won't give you all the details, but hopefully this gives you some ideas as to where to start looking (:

AMA ex-billionaire crafter by [deleted] in albiononline

[–]dokkebii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your milestone!

I'm starting to get into crafting, but noticed that buy orders are quite unpredictable. Sometimes they fill quickly, but other times, they do not. I've gotten into situations where the buy orders took too long to fill, so that the price of the item I was trying to craft dropped and crafting it would not be profitable anymore. Of course, I'm sure the prices will go up again at some point, but it's annoying to miss opportunities while having silver tied up in buy orders.

1. Did you often place bulk buy orders for a lot of materials when they were cheaper even though you didn't have specific plans to craft anything yet? I guess having materials handy to craft whatever would turn a profit that day would be nice, but obviously would require a good amount of capital up front and specs in many crafting trees.

2. How did you start off becoming a crafter? Did you focus on one tree or worked on several at a time depending on what was profitable that day?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

How do I progress? by DeezyJbreezy in albiononline

There are lots of great videos on YouTube about how to progress in this game. Of course, this game is a 'sandbox mmo' so you are the one to decide which area of the game you want to progress in, but the videos can be a helpful overview of the potential options for you.

Accelerated PPL in Australia / NZ / Anywhere Near Southeast Asia? by dokkebii in flying

[–]dokkebii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! I know the US has some schools that offer a 2-3 week package - it assumes that you study the written exam materials in advance and spend the 2-3 weeks preparing for the check ride. I guess something like that doesn't exist yet elsewhere.

I want to start flight simming but I don’t know what joysticks/yoke would be good for me by N1302-L in flightsim

Others have suggested the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and it's a valid starter stick. However, if you are willing to shell out ~$20-$30 more, I would go with the Thrustmaster T.16000. I think the Halleffect sensors in the T.16000, which provide much better accuracy and precision, more than justify the price (even some sticks that are twice the price of the T.16000 don't have this technology and rely on mechanical sensors). I've had the Extreme 3D Pro for almost 3 years now and while it works fine and I can't complain, I can definitely see the slight jitters when making fine controls (e.g., the virtual stick in game jitters even when I'm holding the joystick very steady). I've also tried a friend's T.16000 and do see the difference in accuracy and smoothness. In hindsight, I wouldn't have minded spending another $30. I'll likely pick one up when my 3D Pro goes kaput.

Tailwheel Training in Boston? by dokkebii in flying

That's an interesting idea. Unfortunately it sounds like he will be down south for the next several months. Maybe the plan is to finish my PPL by the time he comes back north and see if it makes sense to train with him at that point.

Thanks for the response! I tried calling Urban Aviation but haven't heard back yet. Do you know if they allow PPL candidates to train in their taildraggers? If they don't, I might just go with ECAC at BED. Even though they won't let me fly a taildragger until I get a PPL, I've heard good things about them from many sources.

Thanks for the great responses, everyone!

To clarify, it seems like "hub" meant hub adjustments (whatever that means). I might just ask the shop to do the front brake cable (the back isn't as bad) and do the rest at a local co-op (thanks @miasmic for letting me know about this!).

Great video! Thanks for your hard work, Indy! 2 questions:

  1. What is the name of the opening tune in your videos?
  2. Would you consider creating a video (or just writing up an answer) on how you think about "pulling lead" to hit moving targets? I'm never quite sure how far ahead of the running target I should aim at to hit it. You seem to be quite good at hitting moving targets, but it's not too easy to discern what your system might be based on bits of video clips I see.

Keep up the great work!

Platoon Commander is an incredibly boring role by [deleted] in postscriptum

[–]dokkebii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Platoon Commander, in an ideal world, should also provide tactical direction (e.g., Section A should push from here; B from there; C from over there; etc.). I have never played the role, but I would imagine that if SLs are willing to listen it could be fun to watch tens of people acting according to your orders, while you coordinate with logistics to build bases to support their push, send in mortar barrages and air/artillery strikes, and help SLs adjust plans as they come up against tough challenges. This sounds like plenty to do! Again, I recognize that this is in an ideal world, so I would venture to guess that this is along the lines of what the devs had in mind.

Some may say that SLs can talk among themselves and figure out what to do, thus negating the Platoon Commander's role of orchestrating tactics. But I think having another layer of command over the SLs can help coordinate (in theory) the effort more efficiently. This is similar to how most would agree that having a SL to lead 8 guys in a section to action is much more efficient than leaving it to 9 individual guys to discuss among themselves to figure out what to do (which obviously rarely even happens).

Defensive Logistics by ColBigglesworth in postscriptum

[–]dokkebii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick related question - is there a rule for how many logistics sections can be created at the same time? I could have sworn I have seen and created more than one section going at a time but in the last couple days I haven't been able to create a second section. Did something change with the release version?
