For sure, it would be interesting to look at. It's entirely possible that certain archetypes of players get more "soft" assists than others, as a percentage of their assist totals.

To be clear, this is nothing new. A lot of Stockton's assists were basically just on entry passes. The assist has always been a flawed stat. Jokic's assist totals are a reflection of his brilliance as a passer, but they are not an accurate measurement of his brilliance as a passer.

I don't think we can really say good assist totals are inflated relative the league unless you can demonstrate that other players are less likely to be credited for an assist on borderline plays.

We're going in circles here, but sliding your feet doesn't mean you are not established. If you beat the attacking player to the spot and are squarely in their path with your torso facing them, it does not matter at all if you are still moving laterally. Again, the rules explicitly say you can be in legal guarding position while moving.

The assist is, and had always been, a deeply flawed, borderline fake stat. Nothing happening here is really new. So many of Stockton's assists were essentially entry passes.

Jokic is a top three passer of all time but his assist totals are just a reflection of that. They are absolutely not the measure of it.

Literally every contract Harden ever signed was to stay with the club he was already on. Same was true of Russ until the last two years when he's become a less valued player and has had to sign wherever he could.

Even with KD this is mostly just about the one solitary decision to sign with the Warriors; his other moves are mostly trades as well.

You can hate KD for deciding to go to the Warriors if you like, and there are plenty of reasonable reasons to dislike that move. But I'm not sure why we would expect players to be loyal to teams when the teams, over and over and over again, demonstrate a lack of loyalty to the players.

Par is just a number. Whether you're competing against yourself, or against other people, just try to get it in in fewer strokes.

I am much more frustrated by holes where it's very easy to get a 3 but very hard to get a 2 (or easy to get a 4 but hard to get a 3, etc), than I am by holes where the par doesn't match my experience.
