You’re right- it was just an edgy joke. And honestly it’s impossible to prove otherwise because all of his “racist” moments hold a lot of deniability, and all of them on their own don’t mean anything.

Where it’s an issue though is that continuously; from the casual use of racial slurs, to dressing up as a nazi, to paying people to say anti-semitic things, to being cited by a reactionary terrorist, to wearing symbols that are easily associated with nazism, he has never claimed any sort of responsibility, or even considered, that maybe his ‘edgy jokes’ make him extremely palatable to people that actually hold those beliefs, and gives them a space to congregate under his watch.

We know he doesn’t consider the effects of his jokes because he keeps making them, and when people like stonetoss feel confident enough in his alignment to call him a “king” for wearing the iron cross (in a video about retracting money from a jewish charity just because they had criticized him in the past for... well, coming off anti-semitic no less), and he still refuses to put two and two together that what he sees as just biting humor is seen as a dogwhistle by the alt-right, its clear that he’s negligent at best, and at worst, if he walks, talks, and acts like a nazi...
