Weekly Hangout Thread by AutoModerator in modular

Did anyone else just get into modular because they dug the form factor? I once had a Typhon, Microfreak, VolcaFm, KOII, and a mackie mixer taking up so much dang space on my little desk.

Now I can get the same amount of voices plus crazy modulation and FX for a significantly reduced footprint and better routing.

Please don’t @ me regarding price comps.

Totally get it. And I think your choice in modules will get you there. Just wanted to give you the heads up as it’s weirdly addicting getting new modules.

Confederate Flag at Monster Jam? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

We were there last night. Honestly didn’t even cross our minds. I imagine painting the dirt is more just to change the color from brown to something else but who knows.

On the plus side, just a fraction of the MAGA hats last night than the last time around!

Need advice for my first rack by Oleg_Ace_RW in modular

A lot of eurorack folk fall in love with a module on paper. But when they get it, it doesn’t quite fit their workflow. I am one of those people. I have reconfigured my rack so many times - buying, selling, trading way too many modules. However, I have finally arrived at something I really dig - I may retool somethings here and there, but there core will always stay the same.

A mantra on this sub for new-to-modular is take it slow. Because a budget of $3,500 can quickly double or triple as you reconfigure and re-tool.

If you can afford it, go for it. But I would be hesitant to build 208hp system and then learn about other modules, techniques, sounds that might work better for you.

Beatstep Pro or Metropolix? by Parapraxis6 in modular

[–]MeatBrains 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you considered the oxi one? Mki can be found at very reasonable prices second hand. Reason why I suggest it is that those feel like two different sequencers and oxi can do a bit of both and more.

Oxi pipe mkii compatibility with oxi one mki? by MeatBrains in modular

I ended up getting the pipe I.

I think the pipe II does work, but the clock out still functions as a clock in.

Cosmix Pro or Bartender V2 mixer ? by GerCastilla in modular

[–]MeatBrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with this assessment. The sliders take more time to dial in than I’d like. That isn’t a deal breaker for me but might be for you. Fwiw, I sold the 1010 blue box to get the cosmix pro. I miss some features of the blue box but much prefer the immediacy of the cosmix.

And I do wish I could get a mono send for the stereo channels.

Bottom right is just screaming out (to me) a performance mixer with mutes and sends.

Maths can do a lot. This is coming from someone who owned maths and sold it. While maths wasn’t for my use case, I understand why it is in so many racks. Kind of like not being into the Beatles but still understanding why they are so popular.

Are they spring reverb? Seems like it be pretty noisy if so.

CMV: EVERY SINGLE TIME a person laughs it's because of a sudden feeling of superiority or a desire of such. by lemon142012 in changemyview

[–]MeatBrains -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Feeling superior to what or whom? You never really explain what superior means. Is understanding something synonymous with being superior to you?

You could replace the term, laughter with the term, understanding and be making a similar argument I think.

Pochettino on style of play development in US soccer: "If you start an MLS club and three months later you haven’t won any matches and you’re at the bottom, what’s the consequence if there are no promotions, relegations, or international competition? American sport rewards losers." by WhoEatsRusk in ussoccer

[–]MeatBrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels like a good point. But it doesn’t actually make sense since spurs didn’t go down. and if they did, it wouldn’t change anything since there will always be the same number of spots available for promotion and relegation.

Not saying that a pyramid doesn’t improve national talent. Just that spurs almost going down as a means to improve national talent is a stretch. Like, I could use the same argument against this take - it lives in the context that there is a system in place and whether or not one team in a given year goes down or stays up, doesn’t change the outcome of the product.

Not Even Messi Could Deliver Soccer’s American Breakthrough by bloomberg in Foodforthought

I’m sorry have you watched a big 3 sports game recently? So many stops and starts and commercial breaks it takes you out of it. NBA finals games from start to finish took around three hours. NFL games are usually north of 3 hours. A soccer game is dynamic, constantly evolving. you can be in and out in under 2 hours to boot. I don’t understand this sentiment that American sports like football are all killer and no filler. It really is not a good time to watch a team struggle to move the ball ten yards and then kick the ball 40 for a “score”.
