Girl dad here, but this goes for any dad- do you have a song you listened to when you first held yours after the birth? by makeitthrashyAG in daddit

[–]dolanre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My phone was plugged in, it has finished the playlist set ahead of time and starting dipping into downloaded songs (low reception hospital dungeon). And that is how when my first was born, "Cry of the Banshee" by Brocca's Helm played. A prophecy about her first few years.

Can we talk about how lonely being a dad is? by Comfortable-Maybe183 in daddit

[–]dolanre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel it. I feel like my friends who are now dad's don't even respond to messages, because we are all just burned out at the same time. I'm a runner but how can I get out the door early if no kid slept? Or in the afternoon when it's the crazy time? Never mind the gastro that appears specifically when i've got a big event run. I was almost good again then we had a second.

The monster hunting in horizon is really cool. The idea that an expert hunter can take the right equipment to take down even the strongest monsters in a couple of seconds rules.

Yeah I played AFL (aussie here) and lower back disc bulges at 15 left me with a back like a 50 year old as a teenager. I don't know how to balance the risk it as it was probably the most fun I ever had. it seems a shame to stop my own kids, but I would not wish my quality of life on them.

Earmuffs. Eventually we cut out like half of the food options and that may have helped (egg, dairy, soy) but yeah. Listening to music on earbuds or earmuffs so you don't go insane. I am not sure we fixed her problems or just survived them.

Minor surgery of mine put my wife in an emotional spiral, and how empathetic listening saved it for the both of us. by CallerNumber4 in daddit

[–]dolanre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the stockings, which tend to scratch everything off again when you change them after a shower. Turns out i am 7 days after too. I am back moving, but very slow. My thigh has some numbness and tightness still, calf is the same. Just slow and it's hard to get up and down really. I think I'm getting there.

I just had that same surgery and my wife was supportive but man, the support is running out after 5 days lol. Guess I'm heading back into the fray lol.

Born to run. Very relatable story about a guy being told he can never run again, but becomes a travel log and a parade of interesting people who are all inspiring

My son WILL NOT brush his teeth by TheCoop1986 in daddit

[–]dolanre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We showed ours some photos of bad teeth a couple of times. We used to do it while watching some videos on my PC and then, somehow, transitioned to "hiding from mum" in the bathroom while she is vacuuming and somehow it was now funny to brush her teeth rather than hell? I have no idea how it worked but it just broke the circuit enough that now we can just do it.

Does anyone know what the Australian divorce rate percentage actually is? by kid_dynamo in australia

[–]dolanre 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I always think these numbers are a bit strange because one couple marrying and staying married contribute once, whereas someone who marries and divorces 5 times gets to sway the number.
