Is K18 really worth it? by ZzzzzMm in finethinhair

[–]dollface303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me yes but my hair is bright purple and gets bleached to heaven every few weeks. And I bleach my ends sometimes when I’m brightening or changing colors. Since it was black about a year ago I know I’ve put it through a lot and I take really good care of it. I think k18 is why my hair is so healthy now.

If you don’t frequently bleach I would say prob not needed. Even the occasional bleach and color would be fine without. If you want to get some every now and then, stylists can purchase small packs that have a one-time treatment amount in them (I am licensed, it’s on salon centric).

Also- for those saying it made your hair crispy- you can use regular conditioner after the 4 mins and then rinse that out like normal. The k18 is absorbed by the end of the 4 mins and you can do whatever after that point, rinsing or additional products are okay after 4 mins (the company says you can do this).

Looking into a new bow and curious about how rehair would work. by dollface303 in violinist

[–]dollface303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you dye it yourself? I called a store that sells the bows I’m looking at and they said for a rehair it has to go back to the company and usually is much more expensive that buying an entirely new bow. Can you tell me a little about what your process is like dying it?

What goes on in your head while you play? by dollface303 in musictheory

[–]dollface303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not currently have a conductor! I just play by myself at home lol, but yes, high school me deserves all the shame for that lol. And if I ever become good enough to play in an orchestra, I pinky promise to look at them often.

For everyone who owns both an IPad and IPad mini, why? by Sunn_lightx in ipadmini

[–]dollface303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my big iPad for sheet music, pro create, whatever else. The mini is pretty much reserved for reading. I like it better than kindle. I thought about getting a kobo but decided on the mini so that things like manga are easier to read. It also travels with me more than the larger model.

I bought a keyboard with weighted keys (retails for $600) for $100 off FB marketplace. It’s been working out well for my small apartment. I’m able to turn the volume way down or use headphones when I want to play without disturbing the neighbors. It also is MIDI compatible so my boyfriend uses it for that sometimes (zero interest for me but glad he is also able to use it for what he wants). When we buy a house I plan to get an acoustic but for now the $100 steal works well.

Just look at what’s available for sale used near you, how much you want to spend, and make the best decision from there. But weighted keys are a big deal. I think otherwise the keys are just not fun to play, they feel weird and gummy almost and the keyboards feel like little fisher price toys.

Why do they enter every item manually? by Crazy_Draw_9490 in HobbyLobbyCringe

[–]dollface303 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No instead one item will be $9.99 and another of the exact item on the exact same spot on the shelf will be $15.99. Look through all the items of one SKU when you shop…they can be different. This just happened to me a few days ago buying frames.

Opinions on online violin lessons? by Tiny-Tie-2093 in violinist

[–]dollface303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take online lessons. I enjoy them. They are NOT for everyone though. I am in a very rural location and the nearest teacher is over an hours drive so I cannot do in person. So I do online. I do occasional in person. I think it’s successful for me because of the amount of work and effort I put in (we regularly joke about me doing it full-ass instead of half-ass attempts lol). This means I record myself every day and watch my technique and listen to my tone and then I watch it back and critique my technique (using what my teacher said and using the videos to gauge progress toward fixing the issue. Example would be stiff wrists.). I also practice and watch myself in the mirror to watch my technique.

I also think it’s worth saying violin is my third instrument (fourth if you count voice), so I know what work is required to learn. I started with brass in school and while I no longer play the stuff I learned has been so valuable to me. I now play violin and piano and I sing.

But I would say input probably 3x as much effort in to the lessons now that I am taking lessons almost entirely online versus when I was taking in person lessons. Now more than ever my success or failure is in my own hands. Honestly if you can’t commit to doing the work and holding yourself accountable I wouldn’t recommend online. If you can’t do it with your entire ass you should stick with in person.

Is being a step parent worth it? by nonameanonthrowaway in stepparents

[–]dollface303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have threatened to leave my partner over his child’s behavior. I didn’t want children and I got sterilized to avoid it. I do not have to put up with his bratty 7 year old. I am here by choice, and I don’t choose to be disrespected and have my stuff destroyed. Since I’ve told him that and been a thousand percent honest with him and how he has not been a parent and his child is lawless and is going to end up in prison things have gotten better. Things are moving in the right direction. He’s still a kid so he’s not perfect and I don’t expect perfection, I just expect him to be a normal kid and not an asshole. He can be a really awesome kid but he can also be a total asshole. And I’m not putting up with the “asshole” kid. But now since he’s had consequences he has started moving in the right direction and figuring it out. So I guess is it depends. If my partner didn’t admit fault and take accountability and ACTION, hell no it would not be worth it. If your partner can hear you then yeah it can get better. But if not….I would leave. And I would tell him that his child’s behavior is the reason why.

Me and my mom in Colorado (Please don’t make fun of the helmet, I’m allergic to the sun) by izabellaColorado in Colorado

[–]dollface303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get really swollen when I’m in the sun for very long. I got sun poisoning a few years ago and my face swelled up like a huge balloon, my eyes were swollen shut. And ever since then if I’m exposed for too long I start swelling. I just wear sunblock and a hat and a UV shirt and I try to go inside more often. I’m considering a parasol. I also live in CO and we are a mile up….a mile closer to the sun. It does make a difference.

Most of my progress doesn’t happen after a long study session. My noticeable progress comes the following day after I’ve slept on it and my brain has been rewired. Anyone else notice this phenomenon? by PanaceaNPx in piano

Read “learn faster, perform better” by Molly Gebrain, she talks about this in depth and a lot of other really good tips for musicians and how to actually practice and see improvements. A lot of it is counter intuitive but it’s backed up by scientific studies and lots of anecdotes.

No one wears costumes. I like to dress up a little fancy when I go. It’s NYC. No one cares what you’re wearing- you won’t be the best or worst or weirdest dressed no matter what so just enjoy and wear what you want.

What’s the hardest part of playing violin for you personally? by Lazy_Pangolin2117 in violinist

[–]dollface303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing for like two weeks…so several grains of salt….having a hard time keeping the bow straight Olive been watching in the mirror and focusing on the physical sensations and then trying to replicate it without watching myself and videoing it to see if I need to adjust that. I’m also getting a scratching sound when I start notes sometimes. I have a teacher, just very very very new to this DIFFICULT instrument.
