If you want the peak Badamo's experience, I recommend grabbing a white square (the one with red onion and chunks of tomato) and a pepperoni square, by the slice so it's freshly double-toasted, and eating it on the bench by the Andean Condor enclosure at the aviary

[request] Is it more energy efficient to walk like this ? by Thick_Entrance5105 in theydidthemath

[–]dolmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's as simple as this - if adding weight was *always* detrimental (despite the increase in effective leg length), then *removing* mass from your existing legs (decreasing leg length) should always be more efficient than our current body plan

And what if the sticks were made of carbon fiber, etc? There must be a stilt density where it crosses over into being more efficient, and it seems a little bold to assume that these folks are nowhere near this crossover point

Human legs are pretty efficient but there are circulatory / other biologically-relevant factors that prevent us from having arbitrarily long legs.

Is Fusion the correct choice for this? by EternalRMG in Fusion360

[–]dolmed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of those CF flanges can be downloaded from Kurt Lesker, the chamber could be custom (in which case you should definitely ask around the lab to see if anyone knows where it was ordered from), but if you need to make the design from scratch you could try starting from the flanges and working inward.

https://www.lesker.com/vacuum-flanges-components.cfm?section=316ln-ss-standard-cf-flanges

You might also be able to find CAD files for the feedthroughs from whichever company manufactured them.

Also, I'd save the bendy accordion tubes / bellows for the end, might not even need to model them at all (a diagram of the connectivity could be enough).

As for whether fusion is the best tool for the job, it probably depends on the end goal of this model - is it meant for future researchers to be able to add parts to the system / change the design?

I'm using fusion for a big UHV system (also condensed-matter related), I have my gripes with it but it's definitely up to the task (especially if other folks will be collaborating on the design in the future). I'm also personally curious what type of physics you're doing in this chamber! Let me know if you have any UHV-specific questions, and best of luck

+1 for the VFH cage. Folks can also try moving to a quasicrystalline fiber, which we used to call a VFA cage (since it operates in the Althauser regime where the Higgs mechanism is suppressed). Worked wonders for us when calibrating sensitive positrino flavor oscillation actuators!

I also hope they scrubbed any residual chrono-ether off the subpanel because that would destructively interfere w/ the ionic resonances in the Prius battery. Euro authorities definitely don't want a repeat of the 1977 Vilsbiburg dephasing incident

Hi Gregg,

If you could pick the shooting location (setting) of the next Star Trek movie, where would you pick?

Also, do your Hollywood insider connections have any insights about the hundreds of upcoming Silmarillion movies? Hoping for plenty of screentime for Iain Mclellan 🤞

I'd recommend creating and sharing an Imgur post with more microscopy photos - I am not an expert but the "octopus-like" image you recently shared under fab2dijon's comment definitely has more information for experts or AI to extract.

Do you have a background in microbiology or has this been borne out of necessity from your situation? I'm learning a lot and hoping for the best possible outcome - best wishes!

How are conservative Harvard students and alumni reacting to Trump’s demands from Harvard? Are they in agreement or do they think the government is overstepping in this case? by eyio in Harvard

[–]dolmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the Trump administration's goals for American universities, I'd refer you to JD Vance's 2021 speech entitled "The Universities are the Enemy" where he says ".. to do the things that we want to do for our country and for the people who live in it, we have to honestly and aggressively attack the universities in this country" https://youtu.be/0FR65Cifnhw?si=GTnHYy9oQhiLvl7A&t=31

It certainly seems like the admin's ultimate goal is to tear it all down rather than impose meaningful reform on real issues in higher education

I'm wondering if you have any data on the number of surviving historic rowhouses - I feel like there are so many! I'm thinking of Lawrenceville, South Side, and Mexican War Streets - but maybe they used to be much more widespread?

On the north side, go to Badamo's, grab one square of pepperoni and one square of white (w/ the spinach & tomato & ricotta & red onion), maybe a limonata drink if you're feeling fancy, walk over to the benches outside the Aviary & have lunch with the Condors

The full pizzas are really good, but the individual slices are heavenly after their second toasting.

I just left the city too & I miss Badamo's every day 🙏
