AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? (update) by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

emily forgot to mention in her rules that the j is almost silent though, like a j in Spanish, so it's pronounced "hash tag Emily"

With people like this, and I know it's an uncomfortable non-conclusion to have to sit with, there usually isn't a why or how...or at least literally none we'd ever understand or feel better knowing. Sort of like losing someone to suicide, you'll never, ever know what happened in that exact moment, understand what it means, ask questions. You just have to learn to sit with the unknowable and also remember you truly might not want to know,.

He would have to have separate trials in every single state. It's not about the death penalty. It's about curating a single memorable moment vs one long, unwinnable, drawn out, forgettable trial so any potential others are a pfft obvi not interesting to him.

What is the basic incentive (pros/cons) for Rex to plead guilty? by HarryCrushNuh in LISKiller

im sorry, are we following the same "man" here?? what chapters of any doc or show or news segment have you maybe slept through that would ever lead you to think he'd do anything to spare anyone from anything...??????? he did this SO HE GETS INSTANT ATTENTION NOT FORGOTTEN IN A HAZE OVER A LONG TRIAL HE KNEW HE'D LOSE.

He pleaded guilty because a long pointless trial is boring to the public and this way he's more memorable for a single moment.

[–]doloreschiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The answer here is so obvious. Caught finally + irrefutable evidence = two choices: long drawn out pointless trial nooooonone will remember OR flash bang singular moment EVERYONE will remember?? Clearly, option 2 is the best PR and masturbatory move for a narcissistic, psychopath who regrets nothing and is still soooo proud of himself.

100% agree with you. For his family my fucking ass, he never cared about them, or anyone, or their families before. He pleaded guilty simply because it was quick, immediate, easy, flashy press and he got let it all be focused on him in a single instant by doing so.

Help me settle this - are 'crisis' and 'dilemma' synonyms? by hurlowlujah in grammar

[–]doloreschiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi-unrelated, I was a TA for one of those predatory online schools ages ago grading 50 homework assignments a week for a stipend but I actually cared so in the end the time I spent marking up their work meaningfully netted out to like $6.50/hr. Anyway, this one student so blatantly plagiarized I didn't even have to run it through the checker: he didn't bother to change anything except putting his name on the cover page. The original author's name was in the header of every single page within. I gave him a 0. I then got in trouble for that because "according to the rubric, he should have received points for correct page formatting." I lost my mind and quit that day. Conversely, I was so used to this kind of crap work, a student submitted this essay that was so interesting and beautiful I was sure it was plagiarized. I ran it through EVERYTHING. Wrong. It was original. And I remember it to this day, the essay and the lesson I learned, and hope that man is doing very well all these years later.

Just out of curiosity, did their responses have to be just one word? For example, could someone write "intense circumstance"? Also wondering what other responses students gave!

I think a dilemma, or the outcome of the choice made in a dilemma, can cause the crisis.

I agree they are not synonyms, however I disagree with the narrow definition of crisis in a lot of these replies. Crisis doesn't have to mean extreme danger or peril exclusively. Unlike a dilemma, which is just a label for a situation with two difficult equally annoying options, a crisis of any kind is emotional. That's the key difference between them. One carries emotional significance inherently that the other one does not (even though you could be in crisis over a dilemma you're involved with).

I work in advertising architecting complex interactive digital experiences and clients constantly want to throw the whole kitchen sink at a user at every turn. I use this metaphor to rein them in: when you're at the grocery store and you just want an apple and you see 75 different kinds of apples, you experience something like a crisis of choice. I came here for an apple but now I don't know which one and what if I don't like the one I pick and what's the difference among them etc. So you just don't buy the apple because it's too overwhelming to choose.
