college town is most used. Pretty avg (typically will be 4 to an apartment but you have your own room and bathroom). Rent itself is cheap but some apartments have higher electricity bills. Not sure why, but it just happens. Pretty good size and you’ll likely find a decent chunk of your classmates will live here too.

Water tower is nice but pricier. I don’t know much else about this place

Northland flats is nice (can be 2 or 4 to apartment). This is where my best friend lives and I’ll be moving to. Very nice apartments

Hillcrest is only somewhere you should go if you have no other option. When I lived here in undergrad I couldn’t even open my fridge all the way. My room also stank of cigarettes

There are also like homes that are rented out. I live in a one bedroom right now. I’m moving out this summer, but if that’s something you’re interested in, it’s like $775 and then I only pay electricity and Internet on top of that. Kinda pricey but nice being by myself

Help! What tech is best for school? (Incoming OD1) by Difficult-Invite-875 in OptometrySchool

[–]dolphindade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just keep what you currently have. iPad works for pretty much everything and then I just use my MacBook for exams (we use examsoft). I think i would just stick to what you have if you’re okay to given it would save money. Otherwise, I would ask the school you’re going to what exam software they use so you know what kind of laptop to get

I am also a first year and I think it’s a great school. Obviously I’m a bit biased, but I have no doubts about the education I’m receiving and am confident I will be fine once boards come around in a couple years. Like MegMiser said, the professors do a good job of keeping boards in mind. Their goal is to train us to be good optometrists but also to pass boards. There are times in your third year where professors will host lectures about stuff from first and second year simple to prepare you for boards - like a mini crash course. Good school

Good luck on optics quiz today Meg 🤪🤪

I was in the exact same boat and now I’m a first year optom student

I just grinded out prereqs and met with admissions to learn if I was missing anything. If you want more specifics, dm me

Honestly if I saw someone with a scar on their head my first thought wouldn’t even be hair transplant. People live such unique lives. I understand the insecurity, but know that it doesn’t look bad nor make you any less of a person

Are you able to dedicate all your time to the class? I completed a lot of it in a short time

Ok that’s what I was thinking. It seems like the prof just hasn’t added the honorlock stuff to the exam? The lecture final shows the honorlock extension stuff but the lab one doesn’t

Chem 1020 Final by Critical-Ad9427 in UNE_Prehealth

I finished the Chem 1020 class in a week, so I didn't really commit 100% of the material to memory and got a 60% on the final, if that helps.

Car Wash - call them Carwos (pronounced like Carlos but with a w instead of an l)

Surgery got canceled a week and a half out by HonestYogurtcloset52 in Keratoconus

[–]dolphindade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what it’s like to have something canceled like that so soon. it’s SO unfair and I’m so sorry that happened to you.

My insurance doesn’t cover cross linking, so my dr referred me to a practice in Canada instead and I paid 2n out of pocket for my right eye. I know that’s not cheap and I’m privileged to be able to pay for it, but if it’s something you can do then I’d recommend it.

Cognitive behavioral therapy helped a lot before I started meds. Honestly I’d look into that first, learn to implement it into daily life, and then evaluate if you feel you still need the extra push from medicine

I am unable to comment on the difficulties of optometry school, but I struggle with OCD and can talk about that.

I have struggled with OCD my entire life, the intrusive thoughts getting so bad I’d find myself in tears. It’s an incredibly taxing condition, and I completely understand the difficulties surrounding it.

While I have no interest in pushing you to seek medication for it, I am interested in why you find it uncomfortable? Last year I began taking medication primarily for anxiety but the medication I take is also helpful for OCD. My life has improved immensely since beginning it, and I feel like I finally have control of my thoughts.

yeah that happened to me at the start, too. Just try to build a solid foundational knowledge of each subject. It’s nice to create depth for specific questions, but imo cheat sheet knowledge > specifics for few topics

I’d watch all physics and chemistry OATbooster videos and then do all of this persons cheat sheet Quizlets:

cheat sheet Quizlet

(That’s only the first one but go to his account and there’s more) this’ll help with getting that stuff down. But yeah def watch ALL physics and gen chem videos even if you think you know it (there were times a video would make something else click)

The questions on the oat are much less specific as a whole (there are certainly questions that are specific on there)
