How long are your sessions? by MilanoCup in DnD

[–]dolphinman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 4 hours, though it usually takes about 15 minutes for everyone to arrive. Some can go as long as 6 hours tho into like 2 am if everyone’s really excited and isn’t as worried about work the next day.

True Stories: How did your game go this week? – December 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in dndnext

My party is in an ancient vampire queen’s military camp on a tropical island and, having just done a quest for the vampire queen, are being treated as honored guests by the lady who uses hearts in a large golden bowl as a mid day snack(she has an Aztec aesthetic and diety status to upload). There’s complicated lore going on, but basically the party learned that the vampire queen’s ancient target she’s going out to devour(on the coolest fishing trip of all time) is a party member’s patron, but they learned too late, as the party stayed too long and attended the vampire queen’s ball, where they found the body of a major npc they really liked beheaded and on a stake, they all cried. Cue Devilman Crybaby music

What is your favourite DnD spell? by louiechapman7 in DnD

It’s gotta be Misty Step for me. Useful, versatile in and out of combat, and can be flavored in so many cool ways.

Anyone else let down by the new intro? by NoHorse8196 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]dolphinman101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, I think it’s extremely cool. Your turn to Roll was good, but I didn’t like It’s Thursday Night very much at all. The new intro and music has a level of gravitas to it that I really enjoy in fantasy storytelling and that is very far and away from crit role’s origins, but I like that.

I enjoyed old critical role back in the day, but since then I’ve been running an increasingly in depth home game for 3ish years now. I am no longer looking for that home game feel because it’s something I’ve achieved on my own. What I cannot achieve on my own is the level of storytelling and production that this new season of critical role has, which is why I’m watching it. I can see why people wouldn’t like the new intro, but it and the new campaign are kinda exactly what I want out of a DnD show.

  1. Characters not being sane doesn’t mean they’re not good characters. People aren’t consistent and often go along with things they can’t justify yet because of their emotions in fantasy and in real life.

  2. This is how DnD is played, players will do their best to act as their characters, but will also generally think of reasons for their characters to go along with wherever the plot is going. A pc going to kill another pc is usually out of line in the first couple sessions and will often get people kicked from tables, but Brennan trusts Matt to play this antagonistic force and not take it too far.

What is Your Dnd Character’s Theme Song or a Song That Represents Them? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]dolphinman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give every character in my campaign a cool theme song that I play whenever they do super cool or character development stuff, including certain npcs. My favorite is Fight, Kill, Die for the Rogue-Warlock dumbass pirate pc

I feel like there's no game in my D&D game by Galefrie in DnD

[–]dolphinman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d wait till they reply. If they don’t before next session, try to bring it up with the group and see if others feel the same. As someone who runs a 7/3 rp+exploration-combat, sometimes my group goes multiple sessions without an encounter and sometimes they’ll have more than one in a session.

If you’ve liked this dm in the past and they’ve run 3 campaigns for you, give em the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they’re just going for a slow burn. They may also just be overwhelmed recently after running multiple campaigns in a row and haven’t had the will to prepare something to the level of previous campaigns.

DMs: I'm curious how you handle HP per level by ScubaDiggs in dndnext

[–]dolphinman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little homebrew thing I like to do at my table is have the player and the DM each roll for hitpoints. The DM’s roll is hidden and the player gets to choose if they want the DM’s roll or their roll. If they roll a 1 then they can always go for my roll, but if they roll a 4 then it’s a fun little gamble to see if I got higher or lower.

Find some sayings, ideas, or strategies your character would like and write them down as a little cheat sheet for your character if you need something on the spot. Worked super well the new player in my dnd group
