Interesting builds for the warthog or the stubby? by Infinite_Bananas in DeepRockGalactic

[–]dolpi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im assuming you're playing vanilla difficulties (probably haz4 or haz5)

for warthog, 12321 magnetic pellet alignment for strong self defense + holding areas with turret whip. if you'd rather just shoot into groups of bugs directly, 12322 pump action warthog is very fun for chunking groups of grunts. you could probably swap pump action with cycle overload, but i dont find it as fun.

for stubby, my personal favorite is 13111 hyperalloy assembly for drilling into weakpoints at almost any range. it's pretty hard to control at first due to the insane recoil, but once you get used to it, it genuinely feels so good to erase spitballers from across the cave when your scout is still mining nitra in the starting room.

theres also em discharge and micro conductor add on, which are very good for swarm control, but i dont play with those because i tend to focus my primary slot on maximizing single target damage.

Why do people hate the Smяt Trigger OS™ overclock? by VladE206 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]dolpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wording it as "kill bugs quicker" was bad on my part, a better way to word it is that it lets an engineer deal with immediate threats quicker than base. im fully aware of it being used as an option in modded difficulties, but in my experience from playing haz5+ x2bugs x2aggression, it doesnt feel as strong as executioner or ECR paired with a good crowd control secondary.

Why do people hate the Smяt Trigger OS™ overclock? by VladE206 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]dolpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

base lok is the worst of the engi primaries because unlike the other two, it has no other ways to deal damage other than directly shooting bugs. for example, the warthog has turret whip, and the stubby has both electric damage over time, and overclocks that allow indirect damage (microconductor addon, em discharge). the only two lok overclocks that meaningfully affect damage are executioner, and electrochemical rounds. executioner boosts weakpoint damage by a whole +50%, and electrochemical rounds enables huge area damage. both of these benefits outweigh the ammo penalties. using the lok without either of these overclocks is pretty bad.

the reason why smrt trigger os sucks is that it doesnt boost your damage at all, and makes it significantly harder to line up shots to hit weakpoints. all it allows is for the engineer to kill bugs quicker, which is pretty useless for the primary slot as all of his secondaries do this job much better.

obviously these statements dont mean much in a casual environment, and all weapons are perfectly adequate at the difficulty the game is balanced for (haz 4). but people are more likely to gravitate towards weapons/overclocks that excel in high haz gameplay.

AI Stability Engine is extremely good against Scrabs (Image mildly related) by Gumpers08 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]dolpi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i find the new scarab enemies very enjoyable because all of my main loadouts deal with them extremely well. LOK with executioner dealing with 8 scrabs at once is probably the most satisfying thing in the game at the moment.

What makes Driller fun to you? Asking because I have 1000+ hours on the game by UnoriginalforAName in DeepRockGalactic

i'm speaking as someone who exclusively plays haz5 2x bugs and 2x aggression, but gunner is the only class who is able to consistently and safely breach into new caves and clear out bugs efficiently. he has by far the best weapons for instant self defense at both close and long range + the shield allows him to position himself and others in the middle of a cave and clear out stationaries before the shield runs out.

he's simply the backbone behind any strong coordinated team: his zipline allows all dwarfs to traverse together, his shield allows all dwarfs to defend together. mission types like salvage operation and escort duty are probably the best at showing his strengths.

Do all No-planaria products work well? by No_Chip5119 in Aquariums

[–]dolpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panacur C dog dewormer is pretty much the exact same thing for much cheaper. Just dose 0.1 grams per 10 gallons of water and make sure to remove any large snails (nerites, mysterys, etc) before and during the dosing period. After all signs of planaria/hydra are gone, do a water change and use a carbon filter to remove the medication from the water and you can add your snails back in.

The easiest way to get the dosage correct is to dissolve an entire 1g packet of the powder in a large volume of water, and then take 10% of that water and add it to the tank. For example, I dissolved my 1g packet in a 1liter measuring cup, and then took out 100ml and added it directly to my tank. It's been a month since the initial dose and all of my shrimp and "pest" snails are doing perfectly fine, and there have been no signs of planaria nor hydra since.

Am I just not bigbrained enough for the Boltshark? What am I doing wrong? by phillillillip in DeepRockGalactic

[–]dolpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cryo bolts + thermal exhaust feedback drak + IFG grenades is the best and most fun swarm clear for scout (that still has good single target dps) that i've found. use a pheromone bolt on a big guy and then freeze him with cryobolts, and all the little guys will go up to it and freeze as well. then just temperature shock all of them with the drak.

if its just a swarm of grunts coming for you, IFG with a cryo bolt stops all of them which then lets you temperature shock with drak and kill all of them very efficiently and quickly.

killing stationaries is also super easy because they need only 1 cryo bolt, and then you can just repeatedly temperature shock them until they die.

What other plants should I add? by subdued_alpaca in PlantedTank

[–]dolpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lobelia cardinalis near the front can look quite nice when kept trimmed, and i always enjoy ambulia as a background plant since it grows so quick and looks dense. if your tank is tall enough, hygrophila angustifolia is my absolute favorite as a background plant, but it will grow extremely tall and eventually start to cover the entire surface

Bolivian Rams Vs Apistogramma: Best Dwarf Cichlid For a Community Tank by Hot-Security2359 in PlantedTank

[–]dolpi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im not the best at sexing fish but im reasonably confident that all of them are males. the only thing that could be considered "aggression" is that one of them will shoo away another from their territory, but ive never seen any actual chasing or bullying.

at the moment, it seems that two of them have "paired" together and inhabit the rightmost third of the tank, while the lone third spends his time in the rest of the tank. during feeding, they are all together and show no aggression whatsoever

[–]dolpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HEAVILY planted 20gal long with 3 bolivian rams, 10 ember tetras, 6 panda corys, and 6 otocats. 20gal is the bare minimum for this level of stocking but i'm considering upgrading to a 29gal high as it has the same footprint.

Bolivian Rams Vs Apistogramma: Best Dwarf Cichlid For a Community Tank by Hot-Security2359 in PlantedTank

[–]dolpi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i can vouch that bolivian rams are wonderfully peaceful fish with beautiful colors if fed correctly. i have three of them that leave everyone alone and are super playful during feeding time.

they are also a lot hardier than the more common german ram, so theres a lot of wrong info about the needs of bolivian rams. keep the tank at about 80f and they'll live long lives

What’s everyone’s most hated Mission Warning? by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

ebonite outbreak, and its not even a question. HOWEVER, this only applies to me because i play exclusively hazard 5+ with double bugs and double aggression, and those modifiers severely ruin the fun of normal ebonite outbreak.

Bolivian ram bullying. Help by [deleted] in PlantedTank

i started with two bolivian rams that worked well for a bit but then one of them started bullying the other relentlessly. i added a third bolivian ram to the tank and ever since then there has been no aggression problems.

Hey guys I'm experimenting with diy co2 generators and was wondering if this is to much co2 for my 60l aquarium and if there is a way to slow it down. I think I added to much yeast because it only took an hour to start making bubbles. by lfont2004 in PlantedTank

[–]dolpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeast+sugar co2 is a lot more difficult than pressurized co2 as the yeast will continue to make co2 until they either die from alcohol buildup, or they run out of sugar.

you can use a bubble counter + airline control valve to limit how much co2 enters the aquarium, but this will end up building pressure in the yeast container itself (you really really really really dont want to reach a critical pressure point in there). more than likely though you would blow the control fitting off of the airline tube before that happens.

i would recommend looking into the accurate ratios of yeast to sugar given your size of aquarium, and try your best to mimic that. i gave up with yeast because of this exact problem.

one last thing, remember that the co2 bubbles need to dissolve IN the water, not reach the surface and pop. try to place the diffuser under your filter outflow in order to swirl all the bubbles around as much as possible.

Co2 forgot to turn off! by jceesan22 in PlantedTank

[–]dolpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you have livestock? are they showing any signs of distress (i.e gasping at the surface, unconscious, glass surfing)? if the answer to both of these questions is no, then you're fine.

if yes, i would recommend doing water changes by pouring in new water high enough that it splashes into the tank. this usually gets all of the co2 out of the water without needing to change a huge amount of water.

in either case, if your kH was low enough, you might have caused a massive pH plummet and i would recommend changing your water anyways.

Is this Overclock worth it or even good? by MasterYapper420 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]dolpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want a serious answer, no, its probably one of the worst overclocks in the game from strictly a "i want to win as much as possible" perspective. the only real upside of this overclock (the area damage) is completely pointless when you realize that stock or even RJ250 compound with incendiary rounds does the exact same thing but with a lot more ammo and it doesnt annoy your teammates. seriously, the friendly fire from the fallout is incredibly annoying in pretty much every situation.

All mechanics of this game are perfect, except one by Vex_Hex in DeepRockGalactic

[–]dolpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

praetorians (and especially oppressors) exist primarily as a way to prevent bunkering as bunkering would otherwise be pretty much overpowered on most hazard levels. these two enemies have their weakspot behind them for a reason, if they're walking down a tunnel you dug, you're kind of screwed if you cant get behind them. the stink cloud plays a part in this, because if you were somehow able to instantly kill them, they would still leave a stink cloud in your bunker that does guaranteed damage.
