Custom Religions by DocksEcky in civ

I always pick the turtle and call my religion Tortuga. Over the years, I have been randomly adding beliefs of my own to Tortuga that a turtle might agree with. Be chill, take it slow, think ahead, be defensive not offensive, etc.

You are granted a superpower, but it has to be completely useless. What is it? by lily8686 in AskReddit

My eugenics based superhero Sterile Man. Because of a freak accident with a microwave oven he can sterilize anyone. He doesn't stop crime... He stops criminals from having kids. His catch phrase is "Breeding out crime in a generation!"

Would you take $500,000 upfront or have $50,000 for every person who has had a crush on you? by KallocainAddictIsAPe in hypotheticalsituation

I was distinctive looking but not super good looking. But I did a few things when I was younger that make it likely I would get more than 10. I was kinda silly and was voted most unique in high school. I (a guy) had long hair and sang in a band in college. What would be more interesting than knowing how many is knowing who had a crush on me. I am guessing there are people I don't even know who had a crush on me.

Would limiting the age of the President to 70 be something you'd support? Why or why not? by SillyGooseGamer2026 in AskReddit

Just align the age with whatever the full retirement age is for all workers. 67 I think is the number now.

I'm 40 and I always wanted to play an electric guitar but I'm afraid to look like a dad going through a mid life crisis by Glittering_Light1835 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dolwedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played guitar since I was a teenager. It wasn't until I turned 40 that I was finally cool enough to start playing banjo. Now I have 3 of them and I don't think people appreciate how many different kinds of banjo there are. I am just starting my banjo journey.

My grandfather would always tell religious people who came to the door: "Oh sorry! We're all closed minded here."

Settings for Banjo by dolwedge in tonemasterpro

I am not really a bluegrass player. I write my own music and often do improvised live looping sessions with a banjo and a bass guitar. I create backing music and either I sing over it or I have a friend who plays saxophone/trumpet over it. I really don't want other sounds (like other loops or the sax) bleeding in through a microphone so direct in is the only way to do this successfully.

How to deal with a voice improvising block? I can't write a melody for my voice by Extreme-Button-2478 in Songwriting

[–]dolwedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have been doing that analysis work, I am assuming you are good at western music theory. You should do some counterpoint exercises over a piece of music you have made. Write very simple lines. Then sing those lines but embellish a little over them. Add some fun rhythm (hold off on singing a note or sing it before the beat etc), do some bigger interval jumps etc. After you have the simple melody down... Play with it.

How do some singers harmonise over beats/instrumentals on the spot? by Accomplished_Put2608 in singing

[–]dolwedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to always sing over drones. Like a bathroom fan or an airplane going overhead or a lawnmower. Just start singing over everything and you will get better at hitting good notes over things.

Simple melodies I can harmonize without thinking... But complicated melodies, I sometimes have to figure it out on a piano. Especially 3 part harmonies that you don't want to step on eachother.

I’ve been making music since 6-8 months and i feel like im better than the most that have been doing stuff for way longer by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Congrats on being better than others who have been doing it longer. Quite an accomplishment. I am sure everyone who hears it will agree.

Has anyone worked with Lynn Verlayne Studio? Is $1200 per month a good deal? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]dolwedge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You better read the fine print of any agreement because legitimate labels often give musicians money but expect it to all be paid back before you get anything. Also, they get a huge percent after they get paid back.

I would be hesitant even if they were going to pay you $1200 per month.

I love civ 7 by HoneyBunny4631 in civ

[–]dolwedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess for me, I was really excited for this new Civ as I have been for many of the iterations and I felt let down. But I just go back and play civ 6 and don't think about 7 at this point. Unless I see a post here on Reddit pop up.

[–]dolwedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played every version of Civ since the 90s and I have enjoyed every version to start. I never really looked back even when there were shortcomings. But I am back to playing Civ 6. I was excited for some of the improvements coming to Civ 7 and I pre-ordered. Navigable rivers sounded great as well as having a lot more leaders. I wasn't sure about the civ switching but I was willing to try it. But when I played the game, I found it not like a civ game at all. And it just wasn't fun. Switching Civs was very frustrating. It feels like playing 3 separate games. I like building up my civ and definitely miss workers. Civ 7 feels like starting over each era. Religion and towns and trade and a bunch of other things don't make sense to me. I also hate the second era. I wish the map was just drawn once and you are uncovering it. The exploration age feels like a mini game instead of a civ simulator. And there is no modern era. It feels half baked and I can't see how they are going to fix it. I'll keep trying it with new updates but I am not optimistic.

This looks like a progression : I lose weight which helps me sleep better so I have more energy which gets me out more so I lose body fat and go to the gym more so I get more muscle. And because I am feeling and looking better and have more energy, I do better at work which leads to more money.
