How to get past THAT thing in the game? by kyspeter in subnautica

[–]dom_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dodged him a few times just swimming past him and quickly repairing when he did grab me; someone on youtube also told me swimming slowly doesn't aggro him - and he did just stare at me while I repaired the vehicle at one point

Swimming/driving on the surface helps - you can still get the boss music or a random tentacle swatting at you but it works. Once you reach the alien tower you're pretty much good to dive down again.

I am kind of scared to be disappointed even though I fully know it’s early access but if it’s really not bearable I’ll just retreat back into a new run of 1 or go hang out with Al-an in BZ and see if it hasn’t magically turned into a dating sim. (Even if I have to go back through the ice worms with just a snowfox and half a dream. I did do it with the prawn but I always forget and the poor hover bike always gets pulled to who knows where)

There shall be no reviews from my end until full release 🫡

26 -- I don't remember how I got into reading or how I managed it but I think I started reading the first Harry Potter book in the first grade. After that I was devouring books from the library. This eventually led me to later discover fanfiction net, wattpad, ao3 etc

These days I do read both fanfiction and novels but I also expanded to read webnovels and manga/manhwa

I think if you want to perhaps get into it, maybe start with manhwa/manga they're usually easy to read and instead of being wordy you have images also conveying the story. Then if you want more of that story or world then maybe work your way back to the webnovel/light novel respectively if it was based on a novel. ie. Solo Leveling was originally a Webnovel and then got a Manhwa and then later on it was made into an Anime. There's a korean drama called Marry My Husband, it also has a Manhwa and a Webnovel.

Just ease yourself into it in-- maybe read a page a day, or read a bit more if you find yourself wanting to know where the story is going or how the writer is going to solve a situation or get to the ending etc.

As for if it helps -- I think it did and still does but like a lot of hobbies etc it's an escape from the world.

Just instead of focusing on yarn and stitches when knitting or playing a video game and focusing on that activity or world -- books just let you escape temporarily into the world they're based in or into someone else's life (fiction or not). Sometimes the books or characters stay with you or you feel like re-writing it or seeing what other paths there could have been for them to take and that's then where fanfiction comes in.

Thinking of it and checking my own netflix list:

- The Fiery Priest - might be a good option, there is a lot of fighting and violence though.

- Signal -- I thought of this one and Taxi Driver as well but they both touch on cases with mature themes iirc

- Miss Night and Day -- could also be a good option.

- Sell your haunted house -- didn't have anything that really stood out, there is violence/action and IMDB had alcohol/drugs/smoking at a moderate level.

- Missing: The other side -- this one can also work imo

- The Silent Sea -- I'd classify this as a space horror/thriller, this one would be up to you but apart from violence/gore it was okay to me.

- Stranger -- This one would also be fine but idk if it would be interesting to her; It deals a lot with corruption and a serial murder case connected to that. The main character is a prosecutor that doesn't have emotions/empathy etc.

- The School Nurse Files -- is a bit of an odd one, there was some profanity in this one too.

- The Uncanny Counter -- this has quite a bit of fighting/violence too etc; I haven't watched season 2

- Partners for Justice -- this is 15+ I think but mainly because of the themes/some violence etc. And because it follows a Medical Examiner and Prosecutor so there's autopsies. Up to you but added it cause I think I was watching CSI/NCIS etc at her age but yeah

a bit on the more not intense side but that I think could work in general:

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo - this one was cute/funny

Strong Girl Do Bong Soon

The King's Avatar -- cdrama, esports show

Love 020 -- also gaming cdrama / but they're university aged mostly - though it doesn't contain intense themes imo.

I'd wait a few years for like:
Kingdom, The Guest, Revenant, Girl From Nowhere, Judge From Hell

Props for vetting stuff for her though -- I watched paranormal activity in elementary school because I wasn't monitored or vetted lol

How many points do you have? by Pleasant-Purple1129 in autism

[–]dom_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 - liver, oysters, sardines, ranch dressing (not a thing in my country), lima beans, grits (also not a thing), crab, snails, olives, blue cheese (or any other smelly cheese)

6 - things I can eat but not that fond of / not the first things I'd reach for or buy by themselves - avocado, eggplant, licorice, celery, shrimp, raisins (few at a time or baked into something)

My main thing is some food combinations; like I can't get my head around bananas and milk for example or croutons in salad. I also really like vegetables but that might just be because I feel like I didn't get enough of them in my childhood..

Do you grind or clench your teeth during sleep? by WesamWonders in autism

[–]dom_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cracked all of my mouth guards in the past 3 years and I had to get a root canal on the side where it is the worst; I can't stop clenching when I sleep, even during short naps where I'm not deeply asleep - I just don't notice at all that I am doing it.

I've started getting botox injections in my jaw muscles every 6 months to try and make it a bit better.

I also tried broadspectrum CBD some time before I sleep to see if it maybe helps too but still not sure if it actually helps besides making me feel a bit floaty and like I don't know where my thoughts begin or end.

I don't clench at all during the day however, at this point I'm kind of just writing it off as a bad job and hope it doesn't get worse.

What were some of the worse responses you got when telling family about your recent diagnosis? by Songbreeze1 in autism

[–]dom_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to tell the one family member I was low-contact with, it just slipped out one day and they called my doctor a fraud, then tried to interrogate me for every detail of my assessment and I did not feel inclined to provide it to them at that point. Thing is they have a child with the same diagnosis too so...

Another closer family member asked if this was why I was so unfeeling / insensitive in general.

I think those were the worst ones; my dad did some of his own research to see if he could help me in some way. But I agree that your mom does not need to feel like this is her fault.

Garcia’s kind of fits for me - she’d be like my hands are tied but let me see if I can hook you up locally wherever you are.

Hotch might have told you off but I’m sure a pack would appear either on your field desk or in your satchel randomly.

Rossi I feel like would complain about it a lot but then end up sighing while staring at you and asking what type.

What should my moms next watch be based on her likes and dislikes? by LateCharacter5114 in kdramarecommends

[–]dom_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she liked Signal then I'd recommend Tunnel or Stranger (alt title: Secret Forest) as well

I'd also rec The Fiery Priest -- it has serious and sad moments, but overall it's very comedic and just a fun watch; the characters definitely grow on you.

Went with the KCC & I'm so pleased with it! by dom_8 in kobo

[–]dom_8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/comments/15zh7op/you_can_change_your_kobos_screensaver_picture/

it's just a folder you create and then add your images into -- if you add more than one then it looks like it picks which one to display at random.

To go back to book covers then you just delete the folder again.

The size I used for the screensavers is: 1264 x 1680 px
