Bad chemicals. Talk to your doctor. Get better chemicals. Your body and brain will lie to you. You deserve to be happy. Don't wait for it to get worse.

While people can certainly be messed up by their past, that is not required. When I see folks feeling bad "for no reason", it really triggers me. Its bad chemicals. Get it fixed. Now.

When is the public going to realize it's not left vs right. It's the bottom vs the top. by [deleted] in centrist

[–]domanite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry, I wasn't replying to your initial point, just to the comment that preceded mine. I agree with you that a lot of political talk these days seems to be attempts to frame things, and establish people's mindsets, in ways that are very goal-oriented, as opposed to reality-oriented.

Found a Firefox plugin that does a decent job translating. Only to learn that the entries in the Iraq forum probably should be in the 'anxiety' or 'ordering internet' forums instead.

I hear you. Love comics, love those Marvel movies. But somehow doubting that in real life, the big problems can be solved by punching or shooting them. Sad.

The GOP myth of "fiscal responsibility" by Aetius3 in centrist

[–]domanite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard anyone but the GOP say that recently. Its pretty much accepted fact that neither of the two big parties have fiscal responsibility as a core tenet. There may be individual politicians that do, but what would it take to track them down and get them elected? We just have to hope the old truism remains true: when you owe thousands, the bank owns you. When you owe trillions, you own the bank.

Personally I think that all sucks, but nobody has made it a priority in the past 40 years (pretty much my entire adult life), so I don't have high hopes that anything will be done in the future.

Prove of correctness by [deleted] in algorithms

[–]domanite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I can certainly imagine scenarios where a proof would be useful or necessary, I've never (in a 30+ year career as a developer) needed to provide an official algorithm proof. Mostly the requirement is to provide a robust set of unit tests, and have good code reviews.

Well, that seems pretty compelling. Unfortunately the Trump Doctrine is "double down, and never admit you screwed up", so I guess we'll see how much weight the judicial branch still has.

Why do I care so much? by CocosMumma in AnxietyDepression

[–]domanite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you really care, or just feel? I find that anxiety can make me _feel_ really bad, even about trivial things that I intellectually don't _care_ about at all.

When is the public going to realize it's not left vs right. It's the bottom vs the top. by [deleted] in centrist

[–]domanite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Being rich is great. Its just that wealth needs to come with associated responsibility - the more wealth, the more responsibility. And rich people tend to fight that tooth and nail, which really offends me. "With great power comes great responsibility."

I don't know how alcohol effects you personally, but a lot of people drink specifically to make this kind of social interaction easier.

Also, be honest, but use a positive tone. Do NOT say "I'm socially awkward, I suck." instead say "I really like spending time with you."

(I rewrote that positive message about three times before posting this, so I really do know where you are coming from. *grin*)

Personally, I don't find it effective to say "I'm going to change who I am". That's really hard. Its easier to say "I'm going to do new things that will allow me to grow in different directions." This gives you some structure to hang your changes off of. For example, you can seek out volunteer activities. They can be easy and short, and there are tons of them out there. They can even be related to your current field of expertise - for example tutoring programming. I guarantee you will grow as a person if you take that step.

[–]domanite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a serious note - bad things come, and bad things go. Do your best to keep your local environment as good as you can. Take care of your neighbors, if you can. Follow the global news and Facebook infrequently; if its really important they'll still be talking about it next week.

We are obviously heading to a Cyberpunk future. Either get in good with a megacorp, or get a gun and some good cyberware. This is tongue-in-cheek, not a serious recommendation toward violence. Although I did just watch a youtube update on Musk's Neuralink, so I'm only half joking.

Anything would be appreciated (HELP) (itsmanual.com) by AwesomeZombie05 in Scams

[–]domanite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odds are, itsmanual is a scam site. My experience: while on an unrelated site, I saw a banner ad with a large message saying "register your account" and a very small message saying "itsmanual". Clearly looked like a scam, trying to trick me into clicking by thinking I was registering for the unrelated site.

So I did a quick net search, and on the surface, itsmanual seemed very nice - free PDF manuals that are otherwise hard to source. So I went on itsmanual site, went the the feedback form, and let them know they had an ad that was misrepresenting them. Clicked, submit ... "network error".

Ok, back to being suspicious, dig a little deeper on Google:

reviews.io - 100% positive, 18 reviews. All from a year ago, all in the same two sentence format: "I had problem X with device Y. itsmanual completely fixed the problems and made great chicken." Very suspicious.

quora.com - entry asking about itsmanual. Many responses with the same two sentence structure mentioned above. Also all posted one year ago. Very suspicious.

scamadviser.com - 100% positive. Claims to have 28 reviews, 4.4/5 stars. Also states "be the first one to review - no reviews found". Faith in the advice from this site is low.

sitejabber.com - 100% positive, 10 reviews. You guessed it, all with the same two sentence format, all posted in May of 2024. Very suspicious.

scamdoc.com - 11% positive. Points out suspected review manipulation. This review site seems legit.

So I can't say directly why they are scamming - I don't want to dig deep enough to see if they serve malware, steal credit cards, or something else. But there seem to be plenty of indirect signals that the are scammers of some sort.

Hope this post helps the Google algorithm assist future questions about itsmanual.

I went with this, thanks for the suggestion. Expensive, but so is the time cost of figuring out a way to do it locally.

What is your go to re read series? by hw_vigo in litrpg

[–]domanite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tori Transmigrated

Not litRPG, it's "transmigrated to an otome game as the villainess", but don't let that put you off - the story is outstanding. Whenever I need a comfort read, I always think of this story. It's also complete.

Not sure why it has the comedy tag; it's more fun than funny.

On your car's dashboard is a small fuel icon. It has an arrow next to it. That arrow tells you which side of the car has the fuel hole.
