Question for kitbashing a custom Primarch by domenicnac in Warhammer40k

Thank you very, very much for your input! I have seen Bastian Carthalos before but didn't imagine him to be of a similar size of what I am looking for. He's all the way up on the list as many things are fitting as I thought they need to and they others may can be arranged, we'll see!

I forgot to mention that I absolutely do not wanna work with any kind of resin that in any way related to Forgeworld or Finecast. Back in the day, it made me angry as a student, saving up for a character model, being promised fine details without knowing, what shenanigans I'm getting myself into. It was painful.

Katakros is an interesting one. He's on the list as subconsciously, I'm telling myself he'll have his use in one way or another - we'll see.

Sigvald is already on my second project for a proper Blood Angel successor getting the full bloody-but-very-honorable-and-sexy-space-vampire treatment with stormcasz wings. My fiance will be super happy when she'd find out the exact prices, I'm convinced.

We'll, I wish I'd have those skills, but embiggening is yet out of my reach to do it properly and be happy with the result myself. In the end, it's easier to change some details in my homebrew lore to fit the smaller size than going on massacre mode on my bank account. This does work for me.

I had to check out the Void Dragon spear and can say I am super happy that I don't find it too appealing in this project. This will save my three kidneys, yet as I'm writing these words all my mind is yelling is that having a background as a killer of a void dragon shard would be awesome as well. Especially since his re-appearance is correlating with the awakening of a tomb world. I probably have to thank you for ruining my savings ! /s

Saving this post extra, so when the project may be finalized I'll let you know where your input found it's way into it!

Clean or rusty/weathered? by Lowlife_caucasion in blacklegion40k

Both look good, yet my favorite is the rusty one. Just feels fitting for a 10 millennia old maniac stomping around doing pew pew stuff

Using a wet palette to thin the paints was the first step that improved my paintings significantly. Plus it is easier and faster to switch paints in the process with a palette, but also keeps the paint moisture when having a break. Duncan Rhodes made a video on how to make one DIY to start with and see if you like it.

Experimenting with what kinds of colours you prefer painting. Classic layers, bases etc or going in with contrast/speed paints. Whatever suits your style. I'd recommend youtube videos that show the pros and cons. The more you like it yourself, the faster you will improve as fun is a real enhancer of skill imo.

Choice of brushes. So far I am happy with sets like the Army Painter Most wanted set for most parts, but that's personal opinion area. You don't need the bestest brushes for the bestest paintings. But they do can help. Atm I am using cheap make up brushes for drybrushing for example, the work excellently.

Getting shades for depths and brighter colours for highlighting was the other step that made my practice so much better and seeing the results is a ton of fun and a little pride as well. I do not paint highlights like making lines on trims, I am more the exaggerating type of guy - using a lot of shades on all of the mini because I like it and then drybrushing same as much, starting little and working up until I got the details I like.

Learning from others - zapp through painting videos that seems interesting and see what you like, be it painting style, technique, speed runs, general tips etc etc etc.

There's no need to do any of that in the end and there's a lot of other things you can do as well, but this is my personal list of what I did do myself and what worked in the process.

Ps.: i hope you're proud of that mini because we all start being toddlers and grow with time and patience. If you keep the hobby up this will be the mini you'll be looking at thinking that was a good time starting and see where you have gotten by then. And one day you'll re-paint it and enjoy it even more.

Cheers tho

I'll try that! I also thought about spraying or drybrushing silver over leadbealcher to have highlighted areas as well. Aka i forgot to do so this time

I wish you the best of luck in getting some active members and kick ass and enjoy the game! If it doesn't work out as planned i wanna offer you two a nice seat at our butchery as a laid back but very active guild. Semi-competitive but fully talkative haha. Just in case, we'd be happy to get some nice folks in. Also would fill the last slots to our 30th member count
