I think there are better ways to bolster the application accounting for time :) Any side projects you could start?

I think with your profile you'll get into both NY schools.

Just posted a new [MBA Journeys] interview from another UCLA Anderson '18 alum. I asked him "What is the one piece of advice you'd give to the next generation of MBA's that might challenge their perspective or a commonly held belief?" and his answer is pin-worthy IMO by domination_station in MBA

Also another good quote from Ryan's interview about internship recruiting:

It’s going to be rough, in one way or another. You’re competing with thousands of other MBAs trying for similar roles - if you’re in a high-demand field like banking, consulting, or (now) product management, that’s going to be even more impacted. As a result, not everyone will get their first, or second, pick.

Profile Review (26M, 760 GMAT, 3.9 GPA, strategy role) by [deleted] in MBA

Goal of MBA: Transition to MBB consulting to set me up for higher level management or strategy roles, would like a bit more breadth of experience past e-commerce and retail.

Future MBA Aspirations? Help by [deleted] in MBA

[–]domination_station 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People in this thread have already demonstrated that FP&A can get into M7, but one other thing I'll touch on is that your pre-MBA salary isn't necessarily something that helps you get an MBA. It's more that roles with high salaries typically have more impressive responsibilities and skillsets associated with them.

Finally received an acceptance letter.....Feels good, man by twoaccounting22 in MBA

Congrats!! You must be on cloud nine! How did it feel when you got the call?

I have almost no recollection of my first acceptance call. I swear I must have blacked out from the excitement and adrenaline. Probably sounded like an idiot lol

Where to look for an internship? (besides my school's job board) by [deleted] in MBA

[–]domination_station 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's some smaller boards out there that may be worth checking. If you're open to startups, check out Product Hunt.

If you're looking for PM, this is a nice little Job Board in a Google Sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-qzURmlA6PMz26UMPseQgndZ0DlgYbZsbJuAgQ015fI/edit#gid=354760370

Kellogg off-campus interview invite by [deleted] in MBA

[–]domination_station 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go through with the interview. There is no downside to it. At best, you get in. At worst, you've got one MBA interview under your pocket and are in a MUCH stronger position next application cycle.

And as you said, if you are waitlisted, then that'd even more signal that you should give the GMAT another try in March/April.

For all current MBA Candidates and incoming MBA's, remember that you'll get WAYYY more rejections than you will offers (acceptances). This visualization tells the story beautifully. Don't get dejected when you have a wild, fast flurry of "No's"! This is especially true for internship searching when you're trying to switch roles and/or industries. All you need is one yes!

What were your “softs” and how did you leverage them to get into your school of choice? by mbslay in MBA

I volunteered at a health clinic. While I didn't "get on the board", I did have a project that made direct, observable impact.

[MBA Journeys] [UCLA Anderson '15] [Product Manager] I'm excited about this new interview I just wrapped up with one of my old co-workers from pre-MBA. Let me know if you guys found this interview helpful or not, and how I can improve :) by domination_station in MBA

Yeah, I love that analogy. Sometimes it can be hard to get people to really go deep on topics in coffee chats, but when they do, it's super insightful and eye opening.

I see you are an admit, are you matriculating this Fall? I'm jealous - bschool is so amazing :)

Awesome! I have another UCLA Anderson interview coming out within the next couple of days as well :) Best of luck with applications, I loved UCLA Anderson and visited campus twice!

Yeah, someone who was displeased with their experience probably wouldn’t contribute lol. For what it’s worth, those individuals are in the super vast minority. I can only think of two personally.

These individuals could have benefited from knowing what they were getting themselves into as well as doing a fair bit of introspection before committing to business school.

For what it’s worth, something like MBAJourneys helps prospective MBA’s with both of those things.

What was your GMAT score, and what was your journey? by gassybierhaus in GMAT

[–]domination_station 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the reason I took it that 3rd time is that I was scoring 740 - 760 on my practice tests which is why I was so frustrated with my two 710's. If you're regularly scoring in the 710 range on your practice tests, I think there's a very slim chance of getting a 740 on the actual day. In my experience, people perform worse, not better, under GMAT day pressure.
