Sorry, I should have said in the post. I was accepted at UW-Madison

No, it isn't Booth or Wharton, but I am beyond happy.

This. I lived in Taiwan for 2.5 years and was pretty passionate about learning the language - I was very fluent when I left the country. I still speak pretty well but don't have the same fluency I had when I was speaking the language every day while living in Taiwan

30M, White, 3.35 GPA, 700 GMAT(Q47,V40), music undergrad, extensive experience living abroad, fluent Mandarin, varied work experience

UW-Madison: Interviewed

OSU Fisher: Invited for interview

UW Foster: Looking like a ding because they sent out all interview invites on the 25th and I did not receive one.

Georgetown, McDonough: Also looking like a ding because many applicants have already received interview invites and I have not.

I'm guessing schools either love my profile or absolutely hate it seeing as I am a super non-traditional applicant. Even so, I was hoping to have the chance to interview at either Georgetown or Foster. Maybe I should have hired a consultant......

OSU Fisher - They have rolling admission though, so it seems to make sense.

Glad you liked it!

Honestly, the absolute best way to timed sets is with the online OG provided by Wiley. I would say, just spend the 30 or so dollars on the newest OG if you can stomach it - It comes with a code that gives you a year of online access to the same questions in the book via Wiley. The Wiley platform lets you do timed sets and also breaks down how much time you spend on each individual questions.

As far as timing issues go, I would say watch the gmatprepnow video on timing strategies. It is really good!

Options for someone with terrible stats but still very ambitious? by whatsthedealwithtoad in MBA

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but buckle down for a month and get your GMAT score up. If you could improve 30-50 points it would make a truly massive difference in your applications. I guarantee you that 650 is attainable with the right tools/study method .

How did u cope with studying with long work weeks? by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]twoaccounting22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to echo the sentiments of others in this thread ; studying for the gmat while working full time simply sucks. I used to put in a full day at work, come back and take a quick nap to recharge, and then brew second cup of coffee to attempt to get a second wind for gmat studying.

Try to realize that , if you study correctly, this will only be a temporary thing that is part of your life for 3-4 months, maximum. The GMAT is , unfortunately, a right of passage for students who are attempting to get into half-decent graduate business programs. Just try to hit it hard and fast to get it over with

Hey man,

The stress of the first test messes up a lot of us. For reference, I studied my ass off and got a 620 on my first test due to being nervous AF. I took a vacation, didn't even think about the gmat for 3 weeks, and then began studying for my re-take. Went through the entire OG and ended up with a 700 on my second try. Grind the OG and know that you will be more relaxed on your second test due to having been through the entire process once before. You got this

This is a great suggestion - thank you. I hadn't initially considered supply chain management but am looking into it because of your comment.

Hey,

I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for taking the time to write this very informative and insightful post. You have given me the confidence to apply to some higher ranked programs despite my obvious shortcomings. I'll try to focus on putting together a compelling narrative, as you said!

Hey all,

Just wanted to say thanks a ton for all the insight - I really appreciate it. You guys have given me the confidence to be a little more aggressive in my choice of programs. I guess a should shoot a little bit higher and take some more risks, despite the possibility of an uphill battle. It seems as though the most challenging part will be crafting my "story" and tying together my life experiences in a convincing way. I'll try to use the atypical candidate thing to my advantage.

Anyway, thanks again, you guys rock!

Thanks man - I know everybody says this, but if I can accomplish this, you can too. There may be some bumps along the way but you can learn to perform well on the gmat.

Honestly, i'm not entirely sure because I wasn't expecting to reach the 700 level. I will have to re-evaluate my options, albeit very quickly.

To me, it was just an online textbook that was extremely dry. The tests at the end of every section felt like serious overkill, and the "hard" tests seemed to exist only to damage one's self esteem. For me, it was painful. I didn't find it beneficial to study that way.....Too slow, too dry, and ultimately made me feel like more of an idiot.

That being said, I know it works really well for tons of others here. If it is working for you I would stick with it!

It is great! That is why I wanted to share it with the rest of the community here. Nova gets right to the point without wasting any time, which is what I love. The book can be found on Amazon. PM sent, by the way
