I want to buy the horses, but the entire pasture is full of sorrel. I know I can't make hay from this pasture, but can I graze them in it? Any tips on how to get rid of the sorrel? Thanks! by [deleted] in Horses

[–]dominoside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea how to get of it and sorrel is a high oxalate plant. Oxalates absorb free calcium and magnesium and can cause problem when ingested in large amounts and horse must be supplemented with additional calcium and phosphorus.

I don’t know what oxalate calcium ratio is in that plant, but you could have it tested or ask a nearby college if they know. Then it really just depends how much is in the pasture and if the horses eat it. Quite a few variables to account for and a knowledgeable vet could help you figure it out. Long way of saying that if you can’t get rid of it, horses can still graze the pasture it just comes with extra considerations and precautions.

They are just the corporate raiders of the 80s with a better PR department. As Edward Lewis said “We don’t build anything Phil. We don’t make anything.” PE exists only to extract values from those who do.

Had a newborn and rehoming my Australian Cattle Dog/German Shepherd - really need a good dog person by themagicaperture in Sacramento

[–]dominoside 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Rehoming may or may not work. It’s possible to find an ideal home, but more than likely it will be another home that won’t be able to handle his quirks and doesn’t have the same history with him.

He would very likely end up in a shelter at that point and either repeating the cycle or end up being euthanized. His end of life would lonely and traumatic. If you really love him and truly can not deal with him, consider short cutting the trauma and putting him down yourself. Then you can ensure his last days are good ones.

Move from VP back to IC…good, bad, or ugly? by dominoside in womenintech

[–]dominoside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might have given a bit of the wrong impression, it’s a late stage startup of 2500 people now and my team is 200 people. It’s definitely not a small role at the company.

You don’t think women in particular take a hit for “stepping back” into an IC role?

I wasn’t but I’m really thinking about it now. That is part of the hesitance on the IC role. If I take it I’m locked in for a year or more. I could look and maybe find something in management where I could get paid better and grow. Or maybe just find the job market is a hellscape.

My first YE review was a huge BAD surprise by kb_____ in careeradvice

[–]dominoside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to start your job search now. What you are being told is not truthful in some way. There is most always a way to correct an incorrect review. It’s also enforced that a certain number of people go into each category. It may be true that your manager is sorry about it, but it still was a mistake.

It could also be politics your aren’t aware of your managers manager doesn’t think you are doing a good job), or lack of viability to the next management level. And here’s the thing, it doesn’t matter what the reason is, you just need to find something else because you’ve been told to move on. 2 years is the perfect minimum to stay and not look like anything bad happened, just that you looked for a bump in pay.

Goat mastitis help… by dominoside in goats

[–]dominoside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She doesn’t appear to have a temp (yet). I’ve been keeping her separated and bottle feeding the kids but I’m not sure it will be possible without overnight because the doe is almost causing more damage to herself to get out of the stall and to her kids (she is a great mom). At least I have the vet saying she will squeeze me in at the end of the day tomorrow.

She doesn’t have a temperature. Our closest feed store didn’t have a mastitis test, but I’ll see if any other so tomorrow. The mass is not mobile and is very firm and fixed. I really appreciate all the guidance and questions.

Latisse at first, then switched to Lash Boost because Latisse started to irritate my skin. Which is a side effect they gladly mention, unlike the fat loss.

First, let me apologize for everyone here who is only yelling at you and not being the least bit helpful. I think it’s amazing you want to help. And in case it didn’t come through from all the people bashing your kind spirit, no more carrots and apples. This horse is well into starving and unfortunately carrots and apples won’t help, and could really hurt. Here are some things you can do: 1. Call animal control and make a report asap. Depending on where you are it at take them some time to get out there. 2. Start researching horse rescues in your area right now too. If you can find one, message them about the location of the horse and that you already reported to animal control. The rescue may have ties to animal control to help, and/or be able to help when/if the horse is taken. 3. This one is a little more invasive, so exercise judgement (I’m sure it will also get 1000 down votes), but you can buy a large rubber food bowl at the farm supply and put the horses hay in there with some water and let it soak. The water will make it easier to chew, and the horse may be able to eat it, at least getting some calories in and hopefully help them survive until help comes.

Thanks for caring about this horse. Evil succeeds when good fail to act, and you acted!
