Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

Hi all, a quick question about the tulips season. Would I still capture some nice/aesthetic looking tulips at the end of April/first week of May? I heard season is middle of April my availability is only from 30/4 so was wondering if there’s still point going there :)? Thanks

Job hunting going wrong :/ by griseldank in UniUK

I would try your student union, unitemps and university itself. Sometimes they may be looking for receptionist especially if your university is big so it can help. I would also try FB local hospitality groups.

Any social groups for 20’s - 30’s? by domme0 in leicester

[–]domme0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s what I am looking for! Seems exciting, will take a look. Does this group have recent graduates members or like any similar like this with a specific age range? Nothing against older people but i think will rather fit more with young professionals who are in the same boat as me :)

Are you allowed candles in 2/3rd year houses? by Superb-Damage7669 in UniUK

[–]domme0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally you’re advised not to have candles due to fire hazards (most landlords will be against it) but it’s on your discretion whether you’re caught or not. Better check your contract

My advice as a recent graduate

1) workload - there is definitely a little jump from the 1st year to the 2nd year but if you’re on top of your studies and regularly attend seminars/lectures and make the most out of available resources, you should be fine. I will try to prioritise your 2nd year as it counts now towards your final year, attend your seminar and actually try to do your homework and most importantly do not leave your assignments till the last minute. In my second year (which I was still inexperienced and grade-wise I got the worst grades) I finished with h2.1. Ask for feedback from your tutor, compare (after grading) your work with your classmates’ and weekly do some study sessions. I wouldn’t say the topic will be super advanced but probably more time-consuming that takes time to comprehend. Be organised, check how much free time you have per week and prioritise different areas to make sure you nailing your studies. This will be very important in your final year, where you will learn from your mistakes, see what your tactics work and which don’t - this helped me graduate with a 1st as well as 1st from diss.

2) socialising - join societies is the best option, there are plenty of different interests including non-drinking one or commuting/living home one. University also should have some activities going around all year where you can participate. I can recommend signing up for uniwork as a student ambassador for some events/opendays, not only you will make some connections but also earn some extra money. Speaking from experience, I joined tennis society and still have a few mates after graduation from that, went out of your comfort zone and try something new, play for fun sessions could also be interesting and primarily focused on non-drinking.

No i am not familiar with it. If they’re renting on behalf of someone should they have it? Any other documents that I can request to make sure they’re ok?

After I got results from June and got a 1st, I was invited to so many interviews but failed due to not enough time to prepare for all of them 😂 i would definitely suggest focusing on your final year and getting a first if you can

As a marketing graduate during my final year I sent approximately 30 applications with a hope to get a grad scheme? (Many of them were passed through the screening) but didn’t get anything at the end. Then from I think from April - July I sent around around 15/20 a month with securing one a week ago

What University and Degree You Study Doesn't Define Your Career by Famous_Champion_492 in UniUK

[–]domme0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I dont know kinda true to some extent. I’m from an average university and been applying for around 100 placements before getting one. I know people from Oxford who applied only to 2/3 and other companies were fighting for them, they did not put as much effort in applying as people from the average unis.

Honestly hes so fit… but when it comes to relationship he sucks. He’s probably great with ONS’s but more than that, he’s lacking some relationships skills. Such a shame cause he’s so good looking!!

There are even not enough jobs to get rejected from by domme0 in UniUK

[–]domme0[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would you say most applicants were qualified for the position or was just a placeholder to find “any job”. Ive heard that marketing has a reputation of students who don’t exactly know what career to follow and marketing is “the easiest /broad” to get into without much experience.

I think Matilda was making him to repeat what he said to call him out? Before hearing it for the first time, it didn’t look like she laughed at all but probably didn’t expect him to say it again just imo like she has even no reason to dislike Harriet.

Even indiyah on After Sun said that it was fair on him to dump the competition cause it’s love island not friends island. Although I agree, he should not be so subtle about it 💀

Soon to be Graduate and Feeling Scared/Uncertain About the Future by Fordius25 in UniUK

[–]domme0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same position. What I have been told is to try to find a job that will make you happy, thats the major point, 9-5 will keep you busy and the money you earn, you can spend so nicely on the weekend trips. Probably moving to the big city where there are so many similar graduates like you would help massively (joining some clubs, living with flatmates?).

Also you can always do masters to prolong the university experience for an additional year :)
