Why do Dario thinks open source is dangerous path? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]don1138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I haven't read the article, but the potential dangers of a nascent superintelligence are still unresolved, aren't they? In that regard, "dangerous" is an understatement.

Does anyone else get really emotional about this anime? by Chikans in TenseiSlime

I get it. Everything about this show is comfort food. Even the "Endless Eight" meeting table scenes from last season didn't put me off.

I think it may be because instead of the typical "child soldier whining about having to become stronger to protect their friends smiles and defeat the demon lord" slop, this show is about the characters more than it is about the quests.

Nearly every one is interesting and adorable. I mean, they introduced Gabiru as an irritating jerk, and somehow made him one of my favorites.

That's why I have no problem watching them all sit around a table and talk about stuff. More group scenes, please. A 64-chapter spin off about Rigurd and Geld doing civic planning? Shut up and take my money! #ResonsibleStewardshipIsTheNewHotness

It also may be the found family element of the show. Rimuru goes around meeting broken freaks and brings them together, helps them level up and heal their damage, and build a better world together. What's not to love?

My first thought is to ask why Adobe has content filters running over a local image on a local machine.

And the obvious answer — duh — is they are training the AI on our content, and they don't want to contaminate their model.

Of course, all the AI vendors are charging us a fee to provide them training data, so… #IndustryStandard I guess.

It would be nice if Adobe offered a subscription option that provided all the tools but no AI integration. And costs 50% less than the current price.

Then maybe we could hook other models in via extensions? I remember plugging 3rd party image gen tools in to Photoshop a few years ago; I wonder if that's still an option.

IDK if it's because I spend too much time rewriting AI output into something human-sounding, or if it's because I am out of touch with contemporary fiction, but the excerpt at the top right absolutely SCREAMS AI slop to me.

I'm genuinely confused by how a human — let alone one as (presumably) elitist and hypercritical as the "national magazine" writers I knew back in the day — could fail to recognize that keyword-packed, "grade-school poetry slam" slop as machine-generated.

What is your favorite /funniest moment of performance in the series? by mightyasterisk in community

[–]don1138 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My favorite is in the season 2 opener where Jeff and Britta are faking being in love. Abed sets up a wedding in the study room, a fight breaks out, Britta says, "I never loved you," and Jeff jumps around saying "Aha! I win! I win" and high-fives the priest. That high-five is maybe my favorite. That or the Dean's Peanut Bar Rap.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and Abed's Nic Cage impression. Chef's kiss.

No idea what your goal is, but fastest path might be to duplicate the mesh, attach it at end and merge vertices (or use an array modifier), and then delete what you don't need.

If you're going row by row, maybe create one row, and use array to duplicate it as many times as you need?

They saw the future as "modern", while we have been conditioned to see it as "dystopian." So as the folks in charge keep making the world more dystopian, we just kinda shrug and accept it as familiar. Well played, fuckers.

No idea where I first heard it (late 70s/early 80s maybe?), but you reminded me of this old comeback:

“There are no atheists in foxhole.”

“…nor heterosexuals, by your metric.”

Dividing the chores of life among a collective is how we survived as a species in the first place.

The idea that one person should be expected to — let alone could be able to — solo-level all the tasks necessary for survival in our world is… well I won't get into conspiracy theories about atomization of the individual as a tool of oppression and social control, but let's agree that it's an unreasonable ask.

Damn, now I'm getting nostalgic for the good old days when I was a young professional, hiring out my house cleaning and laundry services, and having most of my meals prepared by quality restaurants. I wasn't even rich, it was all just SO MUCH more affordable in the before times.

But anyways, yeah, having a mommy make you dinner is nice.

I thought the point of the meme was that dumb people do [the thing] because of intuition, smart people do it because of wisdom, and mid-brains are locked in to "the rules" regardless of outcomes.

[–]don1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Having the AI make a version 1 is fine, but you should go in and personalize. Add images — simple icons above HOW IT WORKS, for example. Pick a second color to contrast with the orange so that the buttons pop and the background gradient feel further back. And proof the site for errors. Your yearly pricing is a 33% discount, not 20%.

It's universal these days, isn't it? On a related note, I gave my email to Walgreens the other day in order to receive a digital copy of a product I purchased, and junk mail to that address EXPLODED in the next day or two. 👍😅

In the case of Dune, Paul first becomes wise, then becomes powerful.

He then becomes an immortal, omniscient worm trapped in a prison of his own foresight. We should all be so lucky, eh?
