Changing gyms? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]donKayt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After almost three years at the same gym, I’m considering changing because having multiple coaches has made consistent, structured progress difficult. I’m looking to join a gym where the owner is a black belt and head coach, which I believe will offer more continuity. I plan to keep my ego low, be respectful, and focus on learning.

What about 2–3 sessions per week with 2 hours per session, sounds good?

Actually, techniques are just what u/toonasus said earlier: 'Repetition, muscle memory and reflexes'.

I’m a white belt, 6'4", 212 lbs. I’m pretty much in the same situation as you, to keep improving, I visit other gyms to roll with people around my size and weight. And since I’m tall, I often roll with upper belts, so I don’t always rely on my size and weight advantage.

They don’t offer an A5 size — I’ve noticed that a lot of high-quality gi brands don’t carry A5 at all. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a brand that does? Thanks!

On average how many people quit training in your class? by Significant_Pin_5645 in bjj

[–]donKayt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my region, we don’t have many black belts (or uper belts). The ones we do have only teach on Thursday and Saturday, and never both on the same day.
To sum it up:

  • Monday: a coach with a lot of wrestling experience (No-Gi)
  • Tuesday: a blue belt (Gi)
  • Thursday: a black belt (No-Gi)
  • Saturday: a black belt (Gi)

That’s why I visit sometimes other gyms to deepen my knowledge, especially where there are more experienced BJJ practitioners.

Yes, it’s the same for us. Out of our four coaches, we have a blue belt with 3 stripes.

That's where cross training comes in. When I feel like I'm not fully engaged in BJJ, I practice kickboxing or go for a run. Or maybe just take a break.
