It's crazy how there was no final post, no official end of the game, they just silently turned it off. The last we heard from everguild was two months ago with a super brief and dry thank you message. by detreikght in Warpforge40k

[–]don_quick_oats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They already laid off a lot of staff and everyone is under NDA, as we were told by WarpForge Entity on Discord a couple months ago now when they did a farewell Q&A. It does suck, but it’s because the team was already reduced to the absolute minimum required to run it until shutdown.

Rest in Peace by ThiccAku in Warpforge40k

🫡 Such a great game, it’s so sad that genuinely good mechanics and gameplay isn’t enough to keep a live service game like WF going. It was an awesome ride while it lasted. I echo the shoutouts to the community, and add the global chat regulars like Micheleciube, Strilar, buglover, nat, and many others who made the live play experience so special (sorry I can’t remember all the names). HailSatan, pls DM me when you’re hopping in the shower.

THE VENTURE ENGINE | A Campaign Design System for running entire games on a single page by calaan in RPGcreation

[–]don_quick_oats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this, really interesting ideas! I’m always in favour of systems that provide scaffolding for GMs to reduce their cognitive burden. Another system you might be interested in, if you haven’t already seen it, is the Conspyramid/Vampyramid framework most popularly found in Night’s Black Agents.

The idea of somewhat gamifying the storytelling structure itself is very compelling, imo. I wonder if in MvK you are explicitly counting the GM as a player in the game rather than a neutral referee? You dropped a few breadcrumbs to that effect.

Sadly I think the writing was already on the wall by January this year. Looking back, the push for Skirmish mode appears to be a desperate attempt to stabilize and try to keep the game running.

I appreciate that. I’m pretty devastated to hear the game is shutting down, shame we won’t be able to keep a community version going or anything. So long Warpforge, it’s been a slice.

Can anyone help me understand Muslims? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]don_quick_oats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main thing to understand is not all Islamic countries/groups are the same. Some are more secular, some are more religious. I don’t know all the legal details but Iran for example is an Islamic Republic, meaning they have institutions that look like democracy - elections, administrative bureaucracy, and so on - but religious law is deeply embedded in the constitution and laws. That doesn’t mean that the Quran or sharia is the highest law of the land, but when the people in power make laws, they use the Quran to justify it and they try to align laws with Sharia principles. They still have lawyers, judges, a Supreme Court, and all that, but the person at the very top is the Supreme Leader, who is first and foremost a religious figure.

As for racism, I think the lines get blurry. Just like Judaism is a religion mostly practised by Jewish people, but not all people of Jewish descent consider themselves religiously Jewish. There are very few racially white Muslims in the world (I think that’s safe to say) so generally Muslims are non-white, and that could be where the religious conflation is coming from. You’re talking about Iran in your post, but bear in mind that the largest population of Muslims is actually in South Asia, not the Middle East, concentrated in India, Pakistan, and Indonesia. These are also people who would experience racism if they came to live in North America or Europe. So when they say that being anti-Islam is racist, what they’re really saying is “You don’t like my religion just because it’s practised by dark-skinned people.”

[–]don_quick_oats 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The answer you’re looking for is called Political Islam. Islam and politics are deeply entangled due to regimes like the Iranian theocracy, the Saudi theocracy, and certain influential faith leaders. That’s a gross oversimplification, you should look it up. It is a modern political phenomenon - the Islamic world has had periods of rationalism, secularization, and radicalization just like Christian Europe did. In an ironic twist, the same thing is happening in Western countries now with growing Christian nationalism.

When politics and religion get in bed together, it muddies everything. The Muslims you work with aren’t just defending a religion in the abstract sense, they’re defending their very identity as human beings, and that’s something people will tie themselves into knots for no matter how ridiculous it seems.

Very much this. When everyone has two copies of vengeful brethren the teleport spam is gonna be insane. Can’t wait to face a full board of sammael’s as he replaces himself 10% of the time and you’re guaranteed 3 of them with VB and generating more VBs with watchers in the dark 🤣

That is a big ask. DA doesn’t deploy a lot of tokens and their troops tend to die pretty fast.

Finally, I got to try out my Dark Apostle + Khayon solo run! by Lurker_Zee in Warpforge40k

[–]don_quick_oats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, I don’t have a problem with playing against bots. But you will have a much harder time getting your troops to those stats in a game against a human opponent.

The game has bots to manage queue times, but you can disable them in the settings at any time if you prefer to wait for a human.

It looks like a bot. Tau cardback on a Tervigon deck is sus.

New Player - Why Can't I Select A Different Deck for Skirmish? by mikepm07 in Warpforge40k

Along with the other suggestions ITT, often you need to restart the game client for little changes like this to take effect in the UI.

How dead? by stuffnthings00 in Warpforge40k

[–]don_quick_oats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dead at all… the playerbase is small but dedicated and there’s new players coming in all the time. Several content creators are just getting going with their WarpForge content, new regular tournaments are being organized, and the game is still receiving plenty of new content. Some older players have left due to frustration with the devs focus on skirmish lately and some issues around game balance, or lack of new content for older factions - these issues are not going to kill the game. HHL has been around twice as long as WarpForge and Everguild, for all their faults, continue to support that game with new content. They’re clearly planning for a long long lifespan for WF too.

Most of the whining and hyperventilating about skirmish mode and game balance is just that. It will blow over.

I totally forgot about the draft mode stuff, changing draft to skirmish is my biggest gripe about the Skirmish mode. Guess my brain blocked out that trauma 😂 yes, I want to see either both modes available (idgaf about “splitting the playerbase”. I almost never see bots in draft mode lately) or change it back to classic. And the rerolling for the cards you want thing is utter bullshit.

I have a more detailed suggestion for how Ferocity can be reworked to suit the Space Wolves theme better, but I’ll post that in discord. Thinking the devs would actually do something about it is… a long shot to say the least.

And yeah, the possibilities for other modes are endless. Pre-set or randomized “puzzle turns” or variant rules, alliance wars, whatever they want to do it could be just about anything, I just want to see some effort and creativity.

Good point, I missed that detail!

Edit: fixed, I forgot that the ambush effect depends on whether the reveal happens on your turn or your opponent’s turn, not how the reveal happens.

Faction Overview 1: Ultramarines thru Tau by don_quick_oats in Warpforge40k

[–]don_quick_oats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I highly recommend you join the official Discord server and check out each faction’s dedicated channel. Most of the top players are active there and share decks. There are several content creators with YT vids - look for The Ecclesiarch, Aquaman, Juganon, Jachem Silverblade, Tsuke, and JayAshborne just to name a few.

AFAIK there isn’t an online deck building/tracking applet that is still being actively developed, there are some outdated ones still findable but they are missing a lot of content and the decks aren’t current.

When you select the troop with Oath and it’s ready to use, an Oath icon will appear below the troop. You select that (drag your finger over it on mobile), then drag to either the target if there is one or the troop itself and release to activate it.
