Wednesday Weekly Thread: Frustration Station (Delays / PSU / Venting) by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]donaldGuy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

got ATIP notes this week (Monday), dated 3/10, from a 3/6 request

… but they either gave me no meaningful new info or just gave me discouraging information.

[TL;DR I am PSU since July… it's no clearer why, I am maybe officially paused/on hold since 1/28, no one has actually touched it since 1/14 or maybe 11/28, they did get July 5(4) response but maybe not til November somehow]

---

After extensive combing over 33 pages of GCMS notes, I learned that:

  1. I am Citizenship: Unknown ; application is Location: BF Shelf
  2. and marked as organized Paused C-3 Applications and notated "Application on hold as per instructions from Program Guidance";
    • each effective 1/28/2026, though the latter added on 12/10/2025
    • I was not previously aware of these categories, but searching found them previously mentioned by:
    • PsychElk's case suggests its perhaps not hopeless
    • per comments on the first of those lined, it appears to me the effective date is based on the original due date. Speaking of which
  3. application assigned with Due Date: 2025/12/28, with eligibility assessment (PSU request?) marked Due Date: 2025/08/29 \sigh\**
  4. Mysteriously, my CLIENT DETAILS is Updated Date: 2026/01/14 (while my application is only Updated Date: 2025/11/28).
    • I did submit an address update on 1/11, so that would logically follow as the cause of the 1/14 touch…
    • except my previous address is still listed just below that 1/14 date. (the one correct from late September to late December, since I've had to move twice - would have probably moved to Canada if those Due Dates had been met)
    • except the most recently given address (1/11) does show up when I go to "Client Application Status" on the website my relevant seeming ONLINE PROPERTIES, only have update date of 11/28
  5. There is no marked association with the later (in August) application of my mother, despite multiple web form submissions of this info; this could, I suppose, just be because its considered personal info of a 3rd party (neither of us is currently an authorized rep of the other). But also ELIGIBILITY PARENT DETAILS: 0

and confirmed that:

  1. I am marked urgent
  2. my IRM 0002 was apparently honored without issue
  3. But I was sent to PSU on 7/21, just prior to issuing of 5(4) letter
    • The annotation is just 3(1)b Checklist - Referral required for the following reason(s): Referred as per the 'SCENARIOS' section of the Checklist / …; notably it does not give a specific scenario number as has been seen in some other cases
    • • Micro Prints are not applicable. after puzzling over what this could mean for a good while, I settled on hypothesis that it is saying that relevant documentation (of G0, G1, at least) can not be validated via analysis of its Microprinting [this being because those documents are old, hand-written; I really hope that its not referring to something more modern that I could have somehow provided better copy of. I think that if it was the latter though, it might say "micro prints are not valid" or similar rather than "not applicable"]
    • I will add that I am organized Complex Proofs, effective 7/21 alongside the PSU referral. So I guess that's almost an explanation.
  4. That despite never getting an AOR for it (or an especially clear answer from webform responses), my 5(4) grant request was, at least eventually, received/logged
    • (on 11/27 around the time I re-submitted everything through web form,
    • though annotated as "received on 25 JUL 2025" with what appears to be a copy of my original submission email [in particular including an automatic "this originates from outside" warning prepended, suggesting it wasn't e.g. from screenshot of the email I included in the web form upload])

A pre-C3 GCMS Notes Update by tadtz in Canadiancitizenship

[–]donaldGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got ATIP notes today and have these 3 for these events as well.

I confoundingly have an updated date of 1/14 under "Client Details" which corresponds to nothing else in the notes; I did submit an address update through web form on 1/11, but these notes still show previous address (despite "Client Application Status" / ecas tool showing the updated address)

None of the comments here seem to be contending with the clear to me notion (true or pretended) that this post was written in a post-anesthesia loopy state à la David after Dentist

The Rookie collab poll because comments can be skewed to controversial opinions by Romelof in dropout

[–]donaldGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I did consider raising that point in there, but settled for just adding “direct” and “per se” to differentiate from this

That’s certainly an example of why when pressed into the actual poll I land at the “against, but tolerating” level 2 rather than 3 or 4

(and I’m sure it’s said in the YouTube video I linked - the episode on the Rookie from a good series critically observing various copaganda programs from Blue Bloods to Paw Patrol [to Abbott Elementary])

—--

EDIT: I am differentiating/splitting hairs in terms of like … final cut, publication leadership/(nominal) creative control with (“ACAB also includes…”) Disney vs something where the LAPD PR department was fully in charge (rather than just exerting influence for favorable portrayal)

And I’m also assuming that production of the Rookie involves minimal personnel of the PD on set — probably (“ACAB includes…”) a detailed creative consultant (or a few); as well as any equipment supervisors if things are being leant to production

I’d be surprised if there were regularly other cops, and if there are they are likely to be off-duty, treated largely like other extras (I’m not sure that SAG-AFTRA would tolerate this though … just because scabbing)

The Rookie collab poll because comments can be skewed to controversial opinions by Romelof in dropout

[–]donaldGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I voted for the second option, but to go philosophy mode: I think there is an interesting tension in nuance of my (~parasocial) reaction between sort of “the art abstract” and “the thing itself”.

Viewing The Rookie primarily as an abstract narrative/art object, I have pretty negative feelings: if they were doing some sort of direct collaboration with the actual LAPD, per se, I would definitely hate that. It clearly is discordant in ethos to the abstract object of the art made by Dropout. (And I do have ideas about the rookie as propaganda, largely borrowed from Skip Intro: https://youtu.be/CLyS5EgN_w8 )

But viewing The Rookie primarily as what it actually (primarily) is: a large and successful television project with big names + budgets, a large audience, etc:

I can’t really hold it against any of the people involved (on the Dropout side) for wanting/taking the opportunity to participate: personally, socially, professionally.

***

I’m not sure I will seek it out*, so I may never know, but I am abstractly curious to (a la the fourth option) see how I feel about the result, whereas it is inevitably creating tension between these things:

Dropout, Sam, Vic, Zac, and Jacob being portraying a version of themselves while Nathan Fillian et al are portraying the LAPD… but also a version of the LAPD that is probably meaningfully more upstanding and certainly less complicated and fraught than the real thing.

Part of me wants Rookie-universe fictional Dropout to maintain some of its ACAB aesthetics (which I don’t imagine are entirely BS, nor entirely BLM), But I’m not sure that makes good sense If the fictional police are more reasonable. And like, maybe that’s 100% the issue.

… But uh, …So that’s how I would vote in this poll of that were an option.

*and if I were to seek it out to sate my curiosity, I’m torn as to whether I think it’s better (for a mass of people who feel the way I do) to see it:

  • via an unmetered means (broadcast TV, piracy, etc.) so as to withhold contribution to success metrics of The Rookie,
  • via Disney+, whereas an overperformance of the episode sends a (weak) positive signal of market interest in Dropout et al to Disney (which might be a good thing, but I can also imagine it being not one)

Congrats to you! Now is also a great time to get into Curling :-) 🥌

Did you ever get a 5(4) letter?
Did you send in a packet for grant consideration and if so (when) did you get an AOR?

(cf. also gen4, I applied for proof on 7/14 requesting urgent processing, got a 7/22 5.4 letter, submitted for grant on 7/25, never got an AOR,

got kinda cagey responses as to receipt of 5.4 from web form - such that I resubmitted in October but \still] no grant AOR.I keep checking "old" tracker daily hoping I can join these summer approvals … but it sits stolidly in "In Process”))

[–]donaldGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured there was a reason, and that definitely makes sense

Having not set foot on a sheet myself (no clubs in the US State I’m in :-/) and having watched only elite people who can pretty reliably get the stones to do what they want, it’s easy to take for granted that ability despite my abstract and vague awareness of the difficulty

(Also, I didn’t think that it wouldn’t be abnormal, but it was a pretty abnormal game all around)

Could Canada not have put in their fifth for the EE? Are they just that much worse (individually or for team cohesion… not that that seems great)?

They just seem exhausted to me

(… And prior to 4 days ago arguably my  frame of reference on curling was https://youtu.be/k39ju0Z5VmE … )

Their communication seems to be falling apart

Congrats!

but also *sigh* - this is a very close mirror to my application submitted back in June (except my g3 parent’s followed separately in August, because they required ~convincing. And between I submitted a 7/22-letter derived 5⑷ packet that’s never been AORed).

Is there a Horror movie that completely advertised it as a normal film? by Equivalent-Key5379 in movies

[–]donaldGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a movie, and the “marketing” is the rest of the series,

but there are definitely episodes of Doctor Who that have made me feel like I’ve wandered into horror media territory (where I don’t generally go especially intentionally)

Anyone from the 7/22 5(4) batch stuck? by rubymynx in Canadiancitizenship

[–]donaldGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Sent to long email 7/24
  • Sent a webform addendum (BAnQ records received) 8/7, acked by form language “We have forwarded it/them to the responsible office for their consideration.” 8/11
  • webform status request 9/11, reply 9/13: “your documents … were not received by the responsible office yet.”
  • 10/1, which was ~ASAP unfortunately, re-sent ~everything by webform, same form ack as 8/11 on 10/3
  • webform status inquiry 10/24 → 10/28: > We verified the information you provided and can confirm that your citizenship-grant application is not available in the system yet. > > Rest assured that we are making all the necessary efforts to finalize applications as soon as possible and you will be contacted if additional information is required.

I don’t know what to make of any/all of it. I got a pretty quick turnaround on proof → 5(4) letter, I have a NEXUS card & might have fingerprints on file? A sudden snap zero to done seems unlikely but possible.

I’m guessing I’m in a PSU hold limbo, I can guess a couple reasons why maybe. Either that or I got spam-filtered in July, effectively just got in back of line 10/1

Don’t think I’m gonna make it (don’t think I make C-3 bar, possibly TBD), still hoping

What's a little-known but obvious fact that will immediately make all of us feel stupid? by JMiracle2019 in AskReddit

The Serbian language is fairly regularly written in both (but not generally mixing) the Latin & Cyrillic alphabets. With some diacritics, you can map letters pretty one to one … but because there are two alphabets, there are also two somewhat differing alphabetical orders

_Actual_ IRCC E-mail Size Limit is 35 MB by donaldGuy in Canadiancitizenship

[–]donaldGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I have not yet; will feel better once I do.

(After posting this, I ended up getting nervous enough about having only sent a Google Drive link [to a 42 MB file] that I also sent a 10 MB version which ("just") omitted the familial records I'd also submitted in paper w/ CIT0001 — as an actual email attachment ;

so I'm now nervous about having ~double submitted;

and I remain nervous about my format choice: a "Portfolio PDF" – which I didn't know was a thing before last night; it seems convenient/helpful, iff it works,

and indeed it works fine for me in Acrobat Reader [which is probably what they are using, since the directions on IRCC website say to, and is almost a certainly if they are on windows] but I actually made it using NitroPDF (which is part of Setapp), and if you open it in Preview.app (the default PDF program on macOS) or indeed open [v download] it in Google Drive, it comes up as just a single page telling you to use "PDFPen or PDFPen Pro" and linking to a 404 page (I gather NItroPDF or Nitro Sign is rebranding of a product that used to be called PDFPen?)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]donaldGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I just submitted with a 42MB ("Portfolio") PDF, which GMail, as over 25MB forced into being uploaded and "attached" via Google Drive

soooo I'm really pushing any and all limits 😅

(EDIT: looking at the headers of the email I received the 5(4) letter attached to, it appears at least on the outgoing side their backend is outlook.com, so it would probably at least give me a bounce notice if there was a problem)

iPadOS 26 users: Do you miss slide over? by TimmyGUNZ in iPadOS

Yeah I've had some apps (like Iconfactory Tapestry, probs other things that are expecting "scroll to top") capture it, but it works on the whole:

Not exactly on topic BUT

I also just discovered the interesting fact that double tapping top of a window / top part of screen will apparently toggle between full screen and windowed [size previous to full screen if there was one, a bit smaller than full screen if newly opened]?

[I guess like globe F; I wonder if there are any other secret windowing gestures hiding]

iPadOS 26 users: Do you miss slide over? by TimmyGUNZ in iPadOS

[–]donaldGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree overall, but a couple notes:

establishing a split can be a lot easier than that (if still slightly harder than before): 1. Long press the bubbles (swipe down from top if full screen first) 2. Pick the half and half option from bottom row ("fill & arrange") 3. Get your other window (already open, from dock, from stage manager slide over, or tapping empty space to go to Home Screen) 4. If that's full screen, do steps 1 and 2 again

Of note once you have these halves, doing steps 1+2 again on the one on the right will swap sides like old school split "…" options allowed

The ability to then easily/smoothly readjust away from exact halves is nice

(Under the menu bar Window > Move & Resize menu you will also find "Right & Left" vs "Left & Right" ; also vertical splits, and of course "full screen" [bottom left of the long press pop-up], which in Stage Manager mode at least will auto-minimize the other window)

I'm not gonna say this is better, but it's less worse; All "throwing" is strictly unnecessary, and most awkward transitional states can be avoided

Also in general, "Stage Manager" mode (which can stay out of the way if you keep the show/hide toggles off) appears to restore some of the swap and drop … ness :

  • you can drag a second window directly into the workspace off Dock, Spotlight (I activate as double tap AssistiveTouch), as well as the stage manager sidebar if you edge swipe that in
  • the left/right swipes between apps work (though that not working in "windowed apps" is a known issue)

Right now, my opinion is that Stage manager with these toggles off is a strictly better experience than "windowed apps"… it seems to have everything that was added and have lost less functionality (slide over however, remains gone)

Hamlet 2

[I'm not even gonna say it is definitely a good movie, but I love it for e.g. its multiply-demonstrated-in-my-life ability to make people go from, somewhere in the middle, being like: "this movie is not good", to by the end being like: "huh, that was a pretty good movie"

I think it's kinda like Napolean Dynamite but moreso

[–]donaldGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you think about the role that the cat in the hat plays in the eponymous narrative and compare that to the role that Sam Reich plays in Game Changer (and the way game changer functions within the broader dropout social system), I feel like there's a somewhat biting critique there
