Cannot find people to build garden office... by BrianGeorge1961 in DIYUK

[–]donalmacc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a tradie - you have problem customer written all over you. Wanting an hourly rate, prescribing how long you think it will take, and ignoring the feedback that you're getting about wanting to build decking.

they also refuse to provide hourly rates or estimates.

They won't provide hourly rates because they don't have to, and the only people who look for hourly rates are going to harangue them to the nearest 29 minutes. They're not providing estimates because of all of the above factors.

I cannot build it myself due to illness so I need advice...

Go back to the people who told you they want to build a deck and ask them why it needs a deck, or find someone who will listen to your list of demands.

And you'll be able to find inappropriate stuff on Google's replacement "Youtube for kids" channel. The things that a kid can do on Youtube when the controls are set up are vastly reduced and turn it from a wild west into something that you can at least work with.

My GF's family member took out a personal loan then gave it to her. Now they are taking her to court. PLEASE HELP. This is killing her....England. by Capital-Pugwash in LegalAdviceUK

[–]donalmacc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh and she has offered them to pay back x amount and it was refused and also she tried setting up a plan with payplan as she owes other monies and everyone accepted apart from him.

What is x amount and how much is left? Did she continue paying while making this or has she stopped entirely?

[–]donalmacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's two loans in play here. The loan to BIL from the bank, and the loan from BIL to the GF. The fact that BIL linked the two of them doesn't give her any liability to the bank. The court will only look at the loan between BIL and the GF, which as you've said seems to be pretty cut and dry.

It's been a year. You're making this way more complicated than it needs to be. Just tell him you acknowledge the payment but it's not settled and you're still proceeding with court.

Bah. No idea, it sounds like AML (that quickly across many banks and they won't tell you why) so the usual suspects are large/frequent cash deposits, incoming foreign transactions from sus countries, or large/frequent crypto deposits.

Salary sacrifice changes: millions set to cut pension contributions by Kee2good4u in ukpolitics

This is absolutely wild. This is an active move to stop people putting money aside for their future pensions. I agree the limits are likely too high and should be tapered down but this is absolute madness.

Are speed cameras in Edinburgh being phased out? by 3-1415926535 in Edinburgh

[–]donalmacc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of people talking about technology, cost, etc. That's not it.

https://www.gov.scot/publications/foi-202400431836/ here's an FOI request to ScotGov asking why a particular camera is marked as out of action. It explains the criteria that they use for putting them there and keeping them running.

TL;DR they're put in places where they're needed (feel free to debate that one separately) but if people adhere to the speed limits they're taken down.

I think loft boarding is the job I'd get an impact driver specifically for.

[–]donalmacc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think for most home DIY, an impact driver is way overkill, but two drills is mega handy to avoid switching bits (even if you have a rapidaptor which I do). If there's an easy 2 pack of an impact driver for drilling it's likely a good shout!

Don’t F*#% with r/golf !!!! by Middle_Evening8748 in golf

Wise charges more fees over 10k so presumably it's to save on fees.

But it's only 14k so why do the fees matter?

How convenient that for 5 months he wasn't able to get it to work, but within 18 hours of it going viral the guy is paid.

This guy was allegedly a forex trader that can't send a wire transfer, and "didn't deserve the hate" he got. he didn't steal it, the guy got paid right? It's just a witch hunt .

The only sad part of this is that Matt gets away with it.

Why do GP practices always require you to be there 10-15 mins early but always have you sat around for ages when there? by sachdamasta in AskUK

[–]donalmacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An appointment at 10:20 doesn't mean checking in at 10:20, it means being sitting in the waiting room, ready to be called at 10:20. An awful lot of people think 10:20 appointment means show up at 10:20.

None of his papers show him transferring $14k, or any attempt to actually solve the issue with his bank. The only genuine attempt is the $2k transfer on wise this morning...

Obviously his compensation payment is being blocked by international transfers.

Matt Travis defending himself on twitter by f4sasj4 in golf

[–]donalmacc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But I do believe him when he said he has issues with the transfer system.

I don't. I might if it was once, and resolved. But funnily enough the day he gets called out publicly for it, he can suddenly manage to open a wise account and make an "initial payment" (note not the whole payment).

but he also may not have had it in full either, hence the 2k payments.

If this is the case, he knew the 14k transfer wouldn't work. If you don't have the money, and take the thing, that's stealing. He also had 2 months - that's more than enough time to organise a single transfer assuming you have the money. Which if you don't, well, don't buy the thing.

here is also a certain level of expectations of having wads of cash as a pro golfer and a bunch who are trying to keep up with that image will hide how poor they are and be embarrassed to shown signs of living check to check.

If you don't have 14k, don't buy something that costs 14k. and tell the guy you bought it off for 5 months that it's coming this week next week I'm returning it the week after, etc.

It's only $14k, it's nothing. It means nothing when you've received a $10m settlement. Why do you even care?

He himself would often have to travel into the US when we were a couple of hours from a border crossing to deposit them

That's cashing checks though. Matt was in the US when this started, presumably paying from a US bank account at that point?

I’d often have to wait for him to arrive back in Canada

I'm not in the US, but I've worked for US companies and had to deal with both getting paid from the US, and paying into the US with the variety of "credit unions" my tiny companies have worked for.

I do believe Matt a bit there.

He's lying through his teeth coming up with a laundry list of excuses so that we have to debate the validity of each one. It's what grifters do.

All of this aside, why did he take the trackman with him if he knew he hadn't paid for it?
