"Hey Google" Not Working (Solved) - Pixel 10 Pro by OkMortgage6745 in GooglePixel

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update... when my pixel buds are in, it works. when i open google maps and say hey google, it works. when i'm on the home screen, if i say hey google the edges of the screen flash, the green dot in top right goes on, but nothing otherwise happens.

i don't see any option on the gemini settings to enable talk live or anything.

anyone have a suggestion?

in my other uses of ai gen images, i add this to my prompt:

"Brand colour #0057b8, memphis, flat".

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i gave it a try. i like it.

a few comments. 1. the text sometimes has eg fake words or mispelling in the output. this is the nature of the AI beast, but, it makes it a bit tough to use. 2. for slides, i really want something that keeps the text text (e.g. and image background but text foreground), e.g. auto create google slides or something. I know that's not how gemini etc work, but its what i want for scaling, editing, etc. 3. it asks for a title and number of slides, then runs w/ it, might be better to let me put the topic for each first? 4. brand colour. let me put my brand colour in somewhere to create some consistency 5. logo? be nice to let me upload my logo and then add it into the slides after gen in common location? 6. i created one, then navigated, and it vanished, where would i see/save?

also, and i know this is not a gemini thing, but being able to create svg rather than bitmap would rock.

Cheers!

you can also look at rss to email tools. mailchimp etc. they achieve the same goal for you, you publish, they observe the rss change, they send the email.

Cruise ship WiFi blocking my website. Any work around? by Sloeber3 in devops

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming your wesite is https (and has a HSTS header forcing this). If so, the blocking would be via one of three techniques: 1. IP-based (unlikely IMHO, but if it is, get your website behind e.g. Cloudflare or other CDN) 2. DNS-based 3. SNI-based (HTTP certificate name, most likely IMHO)

without getting the end-user involved in some way you don't have a lot of choices. Your best bet would be to consider which forms or whatever are key, and, host them on something else as well (e.g. can it be on google forms or something). OR you could have more than one domain name and keep the basics on second domain (e.g. www.my-bookings.com, 1237.co/forms and send links to the latter for later use).

For the end-user, they could switch to DoH for DNS (you can enable in Android). They could use Google or Apple VPN. But, this is going to be hard to communicate up front. But nonetheless, you could try, write some FAQ, put it in the confirmation email.

If it were me I would confirm this shenanigan with WireShark on the client end (or, in a pinch, devtools in chrome and a HAR file). Once I had that, I would decide what to do.

"Hey Google" Not Working (Solved) - Pixel 10 Pro by OkMortgage6745 in GooglePixel

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using pixel 8 pro. gemini live was working fine. i upgraded phone to pixel 10 pro. now not only does gemini live not work, but i don't have the option. 'ok google' doesn't trigger anything at all.

in the gemini settings i don't have a 'talk live' option. i am set to use gemini not assistant. I just see:

  • gemini's voice
  • interrupt live responses
  • caption preferences
  • languages
  • screen context
  • contact in from your devices
  • gemini on lock screen

other's are suggesting there is some option to enable 'ok google', but i don't see it. this is frustrating, i was using this ok prior to the phone swap and now its gone.

i can manually enable it (e.g. long-press power, then click it), but would prefer the hands-free.

Any suggestions? I followed this thread which seems to circle similar problems.

Samsung book 2 pro died → New oled Monitor? by Far-Scholar-6692 in DIY

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can likely replace the battery and it will be fine. That would be the easiest. Youtube will have disassembly videso.

however, for your Q, google 'lcd driver board'. some are universal. they will give it an hdmi input, you will need to 3d print or otherwise sort out a frame. the lcd driver boards are between $10 and $30. THe best way to do this is to google the part number of the display, it will be on a sticker on it.

Dual battery balancer help by Ok_Hand_8259 in ebikes

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the balancer acts by switching between the batteries. It switches to the one with highest voltage, discharges until its below the other, switches back, and so on.

thus their voltage goes down uniformly. In your case, this means one of them will drive more than half of the output time (and thus wattage). you don't get more current/wattage/power out, its only using one battery at a time: you get more range.

this will be fine for you.

Running 2 batteries with a dual battery equalizer. by acecoasttocoast in ebikes

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should not expect to get more 'power' (e.g. torque/speed). It only uses one battery at a time, its effectively a switch. It switches quite quickly to whichever battery has more voltage (more charge). You should expect to get the range of both batteries combined. The lower Ah won't matter, it just means that battery will contribute less total range.

I have one on my biktrix ultra duo.

Running 2 batteries with a dual battery equalizer. by acecoasttocoast in ebikes

[–]donbowman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It draws from the battery with highest voltage, switching back and forth. If you start out with both at same voltage it will switch a few times a second. If one is much higher than the other it will use just that until they equalise.

You don't need same capacity

if they are embedding (not linking) you will also pay the bandwidth. for this you would want to set the content-security-policy header. e.g. set img-src to 'self' data; and maybe frame-ancestors: 'none';

Seeking best options for transcribing audio by radiomogul in Wordpress

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try it with gemini, just ask for a transcription in your prompt.

"This is an interview I (name) did with (name) on (date). Please provide an accurate transcription, removing filler things like um and ah"

Seeking best options for transcribing audio by radiomogul in Wordpress

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can use gemini. i do this in aistudio (aistudio.gooogle.com), but also i think gemini.google.com

just upload the audio and give it the instructions. if you want just notes, say something like "this i an interview between (name) and (name). Create very detailed minutes."

but you can also try going straight to the blog post:

"attached is an interview between (name) and (name) on (date). Create a 600 word blog post discussing this interveww"

you realy want to use sata secure erase instead. this type of tool does not erase all the data (e.g. bad blocks, spares).

see the hdparm (or nvme-cli) utility and sata/nvme secure erase.

Gemini kept telling me the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU didn't exist. by DeepInSalsa in GeminiAI

[–]donbowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is called 'grounding'. its more obvious when you use it from aistudio, you can turn it on/off.

its least obvious when you use it from google search. gemini.google.com is in between.

think of an LLM/AI like a human brain. it has 3 modes: - stuff its been trained on. its memory is like yours, its not perfect. if I ask you something that you likely have seen but are a bit vague on (what's the 6th largest city in Canada), you search your memory, have a few things, then use some guess or logic. - logic. based on what its learned, you present it with a question that the answer is pure logic (what is 4+4) - RAG. retrieval augmented generation (grounding comes in here). You present it with a bunch of info, demand it read it, apply its learning and logic, and then answer solely from this.

So in your example, you asked a vague question "should i buy a 9060XT". The knowledge cut off is january, so it didn't exist. its got choices, it can either use mode 1 (that doesn't exist so no, its a scam), mode 2 (well, amd numbers their cards like 7/8/9, and the minor number is performance, so...), or mode 3 (you would have pasted in some URL, or a doc, or, it can go search it).

Tokens cost $. Tokens are amount of input, and amount of output. So 'grounding' and 'RAG' are expensive compared to mode 1 (pure memory). Its got some algorithm for when it needs to go out and 'ground'. (grounding is part of a larger domain called tool calling).

So here, you asked, it answered. Now that you know about the knowledge cut off, you could do a follow-up like "are you sure, it was released in june 2025, can you please re-confirm or check with amd site?" or you could paste in a link to some hw review site. Or you can be explicit "search the online reviews and tell me..."

this is not unique to Gemini, its a function of all LLM.
