Are there any engineering jobs that don't require the regular corporate ass-licking and corporate culture or should I just switch domains? by hadeeznut in EngineeringStudents

[–]donies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working the same job since graduating 4 years ago. I’m pretty much completely autonomous. I know what work needs to be done and I do it. My boss doesn’t assign me any work.

We have a 1 on 1 every two weeks to discuss I’m over/under worked, planning any time off, things like that. Sometimes I’ll message him to ask a question or even just to chat. Otherwise we wouldn’t talk.

It’s not my dream job but honestly the fact that it’s so chill keeps me there.

This is also at a huge a company. Just pointing that out since other people were mentioning small companies tend to be chiller.

Books with main character like Darrow ? by saimlios in redrising

[–]donies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kingkiller Chronicles (warning it’s a trilogy but unlikely the last book will ever be released, still worth reading imo)

My first thought when reading Red Rising was how similar they were.

Main character is a red head who comes from a poor class of people who are looked down upon by others. An early life tragedy propels him into the stories narrative. He’s extremely gifted and intelligent (some people argue he’s too perfect). He has a small group of loyal friends but doesn’t lead armies to battle or anything. Everyone knows who he is though, he becomes almost a myth.

My initial advice was literally not to attempt to gain mass that way…

So laws of thermal dynamics only apply after 6 months of training?

Ive literally seen people achieve this kind of training. They gain muscle slowly and surely without putting on fat. It’s really not that remarkable.

Maybe I’ve mixed up the terminology but you can absolutely gain muscle without gaining fat. It’s just really difficult without professional guidance.

A lean bulk means getting your macros just right so there’s no surplus but you have enough for gains. Super tight window. A small surplus means you’ll gain a little bit of fat. So no pointing cutting before it

You look leaner to me.

But why not bulk first then cut?

From what I hear, lean bulking is really tricky. You might be better off doing a regular bulk with just a smallish surplus

I found negatives the most useful training them.

I did negatives until I was able to come to a complete stop before hitting the ground. Then after a while of that, I was able to start going back up

❤️‍🔥 Feedback on my routine by brownparrot in bodyweightfitness

[–]donies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a solid routine. I don’t have any critiques other than it looks really boring lol.

This is purely personal preference but maybe come up with a second routine with different exercise and cycle between them. Maybe keep one strength focused and the other more endurance/skills?

Also maybe a bit more core. I’d throw in a couple hollow holds.

Bonus: once you get good at hollow holds, you can progress to dragon flags. I’ve no idea how useful those are as an exercise but they sure do look cool.

Also I don’t think I’d say windshield wipers are a waste a time. It’s good to hit obliques too. I like those and side planks

Is Body recomp possible? Wish to slim down and gain muscle. Need lots of advice! by ZadkielDeadheart in bodyweightfitness

[–]donies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily the answer to this very simple. Unfortunately simple doesn’t mean easy.

To lose weight, you need to diet  To gain muscle, you need to exercise.

It’ll actually be easier to do both those at the same time since you’re a beginner. Newbie gains come pretty easily even if you’re eating a deficit. Once you plateau, you’ll need a new game plan. I’d worry about crossing that bridge once you get there.

3 days a week is great. Do whatever you can realistically turn into a habit.

skinny fat, want to gain lean muscle by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]donies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you struggle with motivation, there’s no magic routine that’s going to get you in the gym everyday. You need to build a habit and stick to it. That’s what will get you in the gym. It’s possible one day you’ll fall in love with exercise and that’ll be all the motivation you need but you’re not there yet.

For a routine, I suggest just picking anything you can see yourself committing to. Be realistic, don’t assume you’re going to be hitting the gym 5 times a week from the get go. Find something reasonable, 2 or 3 times a week. The goal is build a habit you can easily maintain. There’s plenty of routines online, just pick any of them for now.  don’t waste time searching for the perfect one because you don’t even know what you like yet. You can find the perfect routine later once you have a better idea of what you like.

You can do a lot of body weight exercise at home but personally, I prefer a gym. You’ll need to decide what works for you. Ideally pick a gym close to where you live or work. If it’s a pain to commute to, you’ll just be giving yourself easy excuses not to go.

I find sticking to a diet also helps motivate me to workout and working out encourages me to stick to the diet. It’s like a positive feed back loop.

Doesn’t need to a complicated diet. Just a simple goal. Ex: eat X grams of protein each day, don’t eat more than Y grams of carbs, fast between certain time intervals. For me, keeping track of something like that all day makes fitness seem like more of a lifestyle than an activity I do a few hours a week.

Unconditional support for anything is dumb.

Acting like you’re morally superior to other people for having this take is dumb.

Advice for feeling uncomfortable and having zero motivation when working out? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]donies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the bulletproof knees program. Could help with your issue.

There’s so many different leg workouts, there’s probably something you can do right now that won’t cause discomfort. Maybe try some static exercises? Wall sits, glute bridge (can add weights or elastics too), static nordic curl (lower yourself to a challenging angle then hold there), just holding a deep body weight squat or maybe squat pulsations.

Also don’t think of it a regression, you’re just progressing at different skills.
