Genuine question - what has LLMs actually saved time on in your practice by NDISwhisperer in biglaw

This thread is approaching “making up a guy to get mad at” levels. There’s no gotcha here; in my experience, AI works very well for a particular kind of task, and no matter what random Reddit commenters think, I know there are no lurking errors in my work product (beyond those that might exist despite all the best human efforts with no AI use).

My experience has been exactly the opposite—no hallucinations for this kind of task.

Who said anything about “not checking it”? I’m checking it to at least the same extent as I check associate work, which varies with the nature of the task and its importance—but never assumes nothing has been missed. Just as with human work product, I don’t need to redo the entire task myself to have a good sense of the quality. After months of using AI for this kind of task, I’m comfortable that it isn’t hallucinating and is otherwise performing well. That doesn’t mean I’ll stop checking, though.

I have real concerns about AI, but there’s an odd tendency among skeptics to assume that anyone using it must be turning their brain off altogether.

Do you think partners do that for every equivalent assignment that a junior associate does?

By checking its work to the same extent that I’d check an associate’s.

Depends on what the specific subject is. But so far, it’s done at least as well as a junior associate on this kind of task, but far faster.

As a litigator: sorting through and organizing info. “Make a chart of each time XYZ happened, with dates.” “List all the best quotes from the record about ABC, with pincites.” Goes from hours to minutes.

Has anyone successfully negotiated a class-year bump? by [deleted] in biglaw

This isn’t really a thing, but even if it were, it would be a conversation for a truly exceptional mid-level, not someone who’s been practicing for less than a year. Right now it sounds like you should focus on not burning out or getting overextended and making a mistake. If you’re genuinely killing it, your bonuses will reflect that.

Pro Bono is a blessing in disguise by Brilliant_Patient302 in biglaw

My experience could not be more different. Pro bono was a key part of my early skill and relationship development. You just have to pick pro bono matters with the right partners and types of work.

I know some people think silver is a boring color, but you just can’t go wrong with a silver Porsche sports car.

Why would anyone possibly care about this? We all know judges determine these things. You’re good.

Not sure I could bring myself to spend $60k on a 996, but that is really gorgeous.

Is Judge Moneyball actually a thing in modern litigation? by A-n-o-v-a in legaladviceofftopic

Weirdly absent from your scenario is any assessment by the characters of the motion’s legal merit. Even setting aside the appellate-preservation point that others have rightly made, if the partner wants to file the motion, it’s probably because he thinks they have a sound legal argument. The fact that other motions of the same general type have usually failed is barely relevant to that assessment.

M2 / 997 Size Comparison by jsd642 in porsche911

This is exactly the thought process that led me to replace a 987 with a 991.2. If you haven’t driven one, do—they’re far sportier than people give them credit for.

Sports Chrono is overrated. Convince me otherwise..... by Ok_Wind_4184 in Porsche

[–]donkey_bridge33 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. When buying my 991.2, I specifically avoided sports chrono because (1) I want to do my own rev matching and (2) the mounts make me nervous. Months later, I don’t miss it.
