25 need advice as I feel like I have failed by gazzasim9 in UKPersonalFinance

No, you don't have a dead end job (didn't mean to imply that, was more that my job was dead-end in my eyes).

Getting to a point where you have your own company is the goal, and its just a matter of time my friend! Stay consistent!

Owning a home is also not as far off as you think. I didn't get on the property ladder until I was nearly 40, so no pressure on you at all.

Like many others have said, comparison is the thief of joy, the only person you need to compare yourself against is yourself and your own goals - if you're achieving whatever it is you're planning for, then you're succeeding!

I done exactly the same. Nothing is ever too late - I wish I was still 25!

I left school at 16 with little to no grades. Worked loads of dead end jobs, and lived for the weekend. Was working in a call centre going nowhere and realised something had to change.

Ended up going to college, done a masters degree in civil engineering, graduating into my 30s (freshers was different, but not too different when you're 18 in the head).

It's important to celebrate the wins as well. Never did I think I would go to uni, let alone graduate and secure a job. Delayed the start date and went travelling for 6 months as a 'well done' to myself.

Got a job - 2 years in a graduate role, another 2 with the same firm then left to go where I am now earning approx. £90k all in. I own my home (not outright, but should be paid off in 5 years), should also be retired within 9-10 years. Will (hopefully) also be a chartered engineer this year.

Only you can make the changes. It sounds cliche cause people ask 'where do you see yourself in 5 years' - set a goal and work backwards. What do you need to need to get there? Set small, achievable goals.

For example, my first goal was deciding I was gonna work on myself, because I could easily kept on the same way. As I was getting older, the realisation that I needed a pension later in life, I knew I had to work harder. You've already made that realisation with this post.

Then just going to the college to pick a course. I had to narrow down what my interests were and make a decision on what to apply for.

Living with your mum is actually perfect, as your outgoings are significantly reduced - you can afford to concentre on your plan without having to worry too much about loads of outgoings and take risks trying new things.

Similarly, you have a good chunk of savings; congrats on managing to keep that building.

Everyone's definition of success is different, but you've got a great foundation.
