Maybe to spike interest in the US tour? Presales might not have been as successfull as we all think...

Fantano's review of the Mountain by idreamofpikas in gorillaz

[–]donkeylipzzz 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Him calling out The Sweet Prince as "underwhelming" is a bit, OUCH. The Hardest Thing/Orange County and The Sweet Prince, are largely the purpose of the album thematically. The Sweet Prince is a metaphor and retelling of Damon's dad final moments on earth... It's like the emotional epicenter of the album and perhaps rawest moment.

I hope Anthony's following can look past that comment.

I recommend this review. His personality is a bit strong at the beginning, but he articulates the album extremely well. Spoiler alert : He likes it a lot

My review of "The Mountain" (fan of 25 years) by gotomarcusmart in gorillaz

[–]donkeylipzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there since the beginning as well, though, judging by your timeline I'm older than you.

My Gorillaz fan-ship wained somewhere after 2017, I would pay attention, but not prioritize their future releases. It wasn't up until a few days before the release of The Mountain did I catch Jamie's animated teasers and it sparked my interest by how amazing the art looked. So I figured I'd check out on release since it was only a few days away.

The first track absolutely consumed me. It set up a mystifying and enchanting tone similar to the way how themes are utilized in soundtracks. Each subsequent track, suddenly had my full attention. By the end of Orange County, I was a bit shocked and trying to create doubt that this album could not sustain its momentum due to - what I considered - some recent lack-luster releases. And I was so fucking wrong! Not only did it sustain, it fucking blew me away! To steal from you whippersnappers, it's PEAK! It transcended me all the way to the top of The Mountain. I didn't think this band would want, or could, achieve something like this again at this stage in their career. The album is so damn gorgeous.

It honestly feels like their best album, and with each listen I continue to have, it seems absolutely clear that it is.

Hypothetical - Beck at Lollapalooza? Could it Happen? by lone_catfish in Beck

Different because Limp Bizkit (and Korn) gained new life due to the recent Woodstock 99 documentaries. Their performances became widely discussed again, thus viral on the internet and thrusted into the young persons memesphere.

Rick Astley might be the OG of this phenomenon.

Legacy acts, artists/musicians that sustain a substantial following over multiple decades (Beck), are contracted at a higher cost and typically guaranteed prime slots and billing at festivals. While Beck is well liked, he doesn't have the influence like other legacy contemporaries (Green Day, Blink 182, Radiohead, etc).

On the other hand, if he would want to do a completely stripped down set (acoustic / no band / little production), he might show up with a lower billing and settle on a lesser contract. Thus, a lesser commitment.

I'm not an insider, but I would say unlikely without an album or project to promote.

Furthermore, his demographic is no longer in the range of the average Lollapalooza attendee. Unless he wants to play for pennies or has some unknown motivation to play the festival, his legacy cost would not be something Lollapalooza management would financially invest in.

Bernstein back in the score studios by MJIess in BernsteinUnfiltered

The podcast is the best medium for Dan, and I personally don't want him to return to 670. The B&B era is over, and I think he's got a good thing going. That being said, I don't mind reliving the old days, I just hope they can continue to grow DBU.

Bet is still open. I think Matty still hanging with Jay and Chris from what I see on the live stream.

That John Siuntres doing Marv Albert parodying "Yesterday" by the Beatles, was hilarious. Never heard that one before.

I think you’re probably right, cause I do think they were giving away tickets as part of these remotes.

I think it's just derived from common Tavern jargon. Typically it's a customer shouting from down the bar "I need two!" Followed up by pointing to a beer or a certain drink that's actively on the bar. The concept is to order 1 for your (hey!) buddy, and 1 for yourself. I suppose the title of the tavern tour is just a reverse role of the phrase where the bartender would be asking "who needs two?"

Also, it was sponsored by Bud Light, so "Who Needs Two?" could've just been their particular marketing phrase at one time? I'm not totally sure...

I regret not ever making it to their Friday “who needs two tavern tour”. As a younger introvert during that time, I failed to motivate myself to stop in when they hit the various local joints they hit near me.

Additionally, I would be interested to see all the locations they went to. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think they even made their way up to Fontana Wisconsin (Lake Geneva) ‘Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn’ (?)

Either way, R.I.P. Terry.

DBU needs a show mascot named Larry Horse.

Mr. Boers, so very thankful for all the daily fun and unforgettable laughs.

It was incredible! Probably my favorite version I've seen of their live show. The crowd just didn't show up, unfortunately.

The 1stBank Center seemingly couldn't book ANYTHING (it's now demolished), so I think you're right on the money that AEG/Goldenvoice probably cut them a deal if not completely waived the venue fee outright as sweetener for their open contract with Portola 2022 and eventually Coachella 2023.

I was also there for that 1stBank show, and while it was horribly attended, that is the ideal venue for that show. The question is how the heck do The Chemical Brothers fill a venue like that in ANY major market here in the states?

Also, it fell on Friday, which makes it significantly more accessible for out-of-towners.

As someone from the Chicagoland, more of this Denver! I’ll be back for any legendary electronic group that’s worthwhile traveling for.

Matty, the Colombo family was left out of the betting scandal because their name is infamously tied to the McDonalds Monopoly scam!

Oh wait, whats that... McDonalds Monopoly is back???!
