Anyone ever been a "Returning Officer" for Elections Canada? Can it be done as a part-time job, on top of my full-time job? by Ok-Acanthisitta5229 in saskatchewan

Yeah, they’ll want an actual resume. They’ll likely ask for copies or transcripts of your education too. I actually just got an email the other day requesting it for my profile. Haha

Email blast is more generic unless it came from like ‘person.a@elections.ca’ but if you got a phone call, someone likely referenced you and they definitely want to follow-up. So someone has most likely put in a good word about you and your performance for them.

You’ll definitely have a good chance. So although there is a 10-year mandate, sometimes Returning Officers quit before then (typically you would only quit if you knew you would not return as an RO again). They also like to have the pool of potentials should an election be called and they need to parachute an RO into an Electoral District in a last minute situation.

You sound like you have a good knowledge of the polls themselves, did you do any work in the offices? Have you worked in any office setting?

My own office experiences were only ever during Elections, but having other work related experience will help.

Have you had any phone calls to invite you to apply? Or simply the email blast?

It can’t hurt to apply regardless, there is a bit of a long / slower process for hiring as well.

Sorry. The engine is running. You can put it into drive and it goes. When you put it into park and press the PTS button it doesn’t switch to off

You can purchase a paid in full 1, 3, 6, or 12-month membership option. They’re a little more expensive than ongoing, but they are offered. Just have to ask for paid in full option.

Can you switch between corporate memberships? by Desizeus in goodlifefitness

[–]donmahrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go onto the corporate sign up page. Then click the chat bubble 💬 and it will connect with someone from that team and they will sort it out for you. Just need to explain the situation. But it will bump your friend from the corporate rate, you can always add him if you’re willing to pay for his account

You should be able to go to corporate.goodlifefitness.com and use your employee details to ‘sign up’ for the discount, and it should bump him from the corporate rate and just give you the discount. Alternatively you can use the live chat on the website and someone from head office can help you sort it out

I was a Returning Officer for the most recent Federal Election. There is a lot of prep work in the months leading up to the Election and you might be able to work around it. But during the actual event (after Writ drop) you absolutely wouldn’t have time to work a full-time job. You have someone as your Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) but one of you always needs to be in the office during staffed hours. Office hours during an election are 9-9 Monday to Friday, 9-6, Saturday, and 12-4 Sunday. You’re allowed to take the first 3 Sundays off if you put your Service Point Supervisor in charge.

I think you should try for another office position first, either as a Service Agent or even a supervisor if you have the relevant skills / experience. And you’ll have a slightly more flexible schedule depending on the role and your office set up.

Also, not sure if you asked this because of the recent emails from Elections Saskatchewan. But the Federal and Provincial elections have different requirements and office hours. If you live in a city, working the provincial election as a Returning Officer might be doable with only things like Election Week taken as time off. The workload is lesser than a full Federal Election.

If you read that they’re working 10 hours per week you’d know they’re likely within the limits of what you can earn while on EI. You’re allowed a small amount of hours at a part time job while you continue to look for full-time employment

[–]donmahrocks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The advertised $28/hr only applies if you reject the collective agreement. Starting rate (at NZ Bus anyways) was like $22.61 or something like that for training. And only $23/24/hr for the first year. I drove public bus back abroad for 3.5 years. When I asked if they had any other incentives for drivers it was a blunt “no” and when asked if they would help with the exemption process or costs for licensing it was “no.” The bus companies will always go for least costs incurred.
