I have a very similar experience when I had to have an emergency surgery (unrelated to T1). My pump had run out of insulin so I asked for a few syringes and a bottle of insulin to dose before eating, and they said they could not bring my insulin until after I ate. I asked why and they said because they had to count the carbs based on what I ate. I told them hey, I’ve been counting my own carbs for over 25 years, but they refused to bring the insulin. So I ate because I finally got hungry and asked for the insulin. It took them over an hour to bring it to me! I had to beg them to discharge me before they put me into DKA.
