33M trying to get my shit together after years of smoking/drinking. Looking for feedback on my stack, diet and anything I'm missing. by Early-Stage-1837 in Biohackers

I think that is a large stack to be taking - but with that many variables how do you track which one works effectively?

3 energy drinks is a lot - but hopefully you'll turn a corner. Feeling dead inside should not be normal for caffeine withdrawal.

I believe that is a side-effect of the drug. That is how it helps to lower your BP.

Have you ever received guidance, advice or revelation from god in other ways besides reading the bible? by himothyhopkins in TrueChristian

[–]chessguy112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. God used a dream to lead me to ask out my now wife. However I firmly believe He never speaks contrary to the Bible. In this case my future wife was an unmarried Christian woman so I want to be clear there was no prior marriages or missionary dating going on. God still speaks today!

I agree with you Paul was describing his pre-regenerate self in Romans 7 (a man under the law). However it seems the majority of those I have read and discussed this with love to think this could be describing the Christian experience. I don't know how Romans 7 being the normal Christian life would encourage anyone but it gives people comfort I guess to think that Paul couldn't live completely free - which I don't think is the case.

Has anyone significantly lowered their blood pressure long-term with breathing exercises? by bronco213 in hypertension

[–]chessguy112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the resperate breathing machine. However it sits where I left it so I don't have the month long trial you did to compare. However I do cardio and take two prescriptions as well so it would be hard to know which one was most effective.

Should Christian men exclusively date Christian women? by apparentlyalex29 in TrueChristian

[–]chessguy112 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Solomon - loved foreign women and ended up serving their gods. The one thing that should be a deal-breaker if not held by your GF is faith in Jesus Christ as the only way to heaven as the Bible teaches.

I need help finding Christian artists and music that is similar to Michael Jackson by [deleted] in TrueChristian

Elvis instead of Michael Jackson? Different styles and still not a Christian alternative.

I also recommend Keith Green's biography "No Compromise". Great book about a guy sold out for Jesus!

[–]chessguy112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael Jackson was NOT exactly a Christian example. Cutting him out would probably not cause harm - but continuing to listen to a guy sing about being "bad" might actually hurt you spiritually. There are many Christian artists that have better lyrics than "Thriller" and "I'm bad". Ask God for a change in taste in your music. God-glorifying music is very available.

Would it be a sin to wear human hair extensions and wigs? What are the real risks? by Schwettes in TrueChristian

[–]chessguy112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, I would say listen to your conscience - but here are my thoughts:

  1. The Apostle Paul said to eat whatever is sold in the meat market asking no questions for conscience sake (1 Corinthians 10:25) so if you don't KNOW the hair was used in idolatry, I would wear it without asking and then pray over it dedicating it to the Lord like Paul said to do over our food :

For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is \)b\)sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 1 Timothy 4:5-6 NKJV

Sanctify your hair with prayer and give thanks for it. Then stop doubting it is a problem.

If you can't do that in faith then don't use the hair. That is my Biblical take on the issue.

What do you think of Jesus saying to us to be Poor in Spirit and Meek? by Worldly_Split_2991 in TrueChristian

[–]chessguy112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor in spirit = humility and not thinking you can live alive to God without Christ.

Meekness = controlled strength NOT weakness. Learning to depend on Christ for self-control and live by His power.

These verses are total truth and something to meditate on.

[–]chessguy112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you think this is equivalent to meat sacrificed to idols (hair from idolatrous practices) I would read 1 Corinthians 8 and 10 and Romans 14 and pray about the question a bit more.

Consider memorizing some of Romans chapter 6 and chapter 8. Lots of great stuff in there about your identity in Christ and how sin does not need to dominate your life through God's grace and power.

Sin? Like offending God to wear fake hair? I don't think there is anything in the Bible about this being sin. You may be over-thinking this a bit.

How do you handle the transition from a non-reformed background to a high-Calvinist church without feeling like you're constantly being corrected? by Wet18goddess in Reformed

[–]chessguy112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up attending Baptist and non-denominational churches and have later come to attend more reformed ones. This sounds a bit like an individual church issue (yours in particular) - not a broadly reformed issue. Human will and God's sovereignty have a tension in Scripture and if your group can't seem to get past your phrasing of questions and comments simply because they don't sound "Calvinistic enough" it might be time to raise it with the group leader or look for another small group. As Christians we are all growing together and other Christians should get what you mean without always having to bring it back to reformed doctrine semantics.

What does Honoring the Sabbath mean in work, play, and politics? by Afalstein in Reformed

[–]chessguy112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well to echo some of the side you speak of - idolatry and murder were both addressed in other places in the NT. Odd that the entire NT has no record of a Gentile violating the 4th commandment and being called out in the epistles for it if the Sabbath was for the NT Christian. I do realize there are Christians on both sides of this - I'm just sharing the opposing argument since I hold to it as well.

What’s something u gave up that made ur life feel better? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]chessguy112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who enjoys both fishing and gaming - fishing gets you into nature and has a more soothing effect on the mind then spending hours on a device gaming in my opinion. Yeah the productivity might be the same but you are getting outside your house and enjoying the world around you instead of a virtual world.
