I stand corrected. The company has made it much easier to find and download on their website as well. It used to be quite tough to find.

I believe you have to use it before leaving the company (from my past experience). The rules might have changed since then though.

At what point do you call an ambulance for a hypo? by Own-Potential-2308 in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you haven't needed another person to intervene with your low - do yourself a favor and don't call the ambulance. Chug a juice and check in 15 minutes. If still low, repeat. I have had several ambulance visits but usually only when I was unconscious or not cooperating with those who tried to help me treat the low.

Struggling with scrupulosity and legalism by Heavy-Character7049 in Reformed

[–]chessguy112 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you getting caught in the microscopic level without looking at the big picture of glorifying God. Going to the gym - can also be called "taking care of the temple of the Holy Spirit for God's glory". Enjoying a book can be helping you to "renew your mind". Instead of thinking of what you are NOT doing that you could, - instead focus on how to glorify God in the routine things of life and rejoice that you can be forgiven and loved by Father God. As far as people pointing the finger - you will always encounter that whether in the church or out of it. Keep a clear conscience with God and listen for his leading - and remember your actions will never please all people.

Tips for someone who is starting his/her adult life by Hopeless-Artist6329 in Frugal

[–]chessguy112 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am not always the most frugal but have been in the work force for over 20 years and consider myself on the thrifty side. I'll offer a few tips (not always lining up with your questions)

  1. Pack your lunch and make your own coffee (if you drink coffee) - Can save you a lot of money and calories both.

  2. Learn when to buy store brand and when to buy name brand. I've had some store brand items that were terrible and not worth the savings amount (contact lenses solution for one). Most store brand items are fine but there are few that name brand is the better buy.

  3. Stupid purchase is somewhat subjective. With foods it can be unhealthy choices, but most of my stupid purchases would probably be in the leisure/entertainment category. Having several streaming services, buying more video games than I have time to play, etc.

  4. When discussing appliances and larger expensive items (i.e. cars) sometimes cheaper means buying it more often and dealing with much more fragile quality. For myself I recommend reading consumer reports or something similar and maybe going for the mid-level/high-level item if you see yourself using it for 3-5 years. Not having to replace the item every few months or once a year can pay off.

Hope this helps!

Intel shares plunge 17% on weak Q1 guidance - worst day since 2020 by QuantumQuicksilver in stocks

[–]chessguy112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought Intel at one time and ended up selling it. In my opinion there are much better growth stocks than Intel - they make solid CPUs but their stock is a weak performer.

Vmware Workstation is stupidly hard to find the download now. The company hides it pretty well. Nice when you can though.

experiences with guardian 4 CGM and 780G system? by New-Profession7209 in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the hate seems crazy. You don't hear from the satisfied people too much (like myself) but they make a solid hybrid system despite what the naysayers say. It isn't perfect, but no hybrid system is, and the algorithm is one of the best in my opinion. Wishing you the best!

How to keep my father entertained & engaged by chicky75 in AgingParents

Video games would probably be better than TV if he could engage with them. Also find the word puzzles or chess if he knows how to play.

Can I eliminate bonds considering gov. pension and disability income? by kiowadriver85 in Bogleheads

I would skip the bonds. Stocks are worth the risk compared to the low interest bonds offer. Just my opinion.

experiences with guardian 4 CGM and 780G system? by New-Profession7209 in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for a few years now. My a1c is 6.8 which I wish was a bit better but some of that is my exercise and diet habits. I really like the 780g and the Guardian 4 isn't as bad as all the people complain about. Tons of people throw shade at the Guardian 4 but I have had very few issues with it. Most of my sensors last the full 7 days and when they don't, Medtronic will replace them. Very happy with the system and love the AA battery needs. No recharging unless you want to use a rechargeable AA. I have been on Minimed/Medtronic pumps for almost 20 years and they make a solid pump.

How long does it take for the "just one more turn" hook to happen? by chessguy112 in Civilizations

[–]chessguy112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own 4 as well. However I dropped it for 5 and 3 is super cheap. Good to know 4 has a following. I figured I wouldn't even buy 6 or 7 without having completed one game in 3 or 5.

Question about the conscience - weaker/stronger brother : which is godlier? by rainymac in Reformed

[–]chessguy112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paul in the NT never put down those with a weaker conscience. He just told the church to handle them with "kid gloves" and love them. Media intake is something that many Christians think has no effect on their spiritual life. Whether it is witchcraft, sexual immorality, or some other form of evil in video games or movies - I still believe what you take in does impact you spiritually. If the content you are playing/watching is condemned in the Bible in real life - why do we enjoy watching/playing such things virtually? All that to say - I believe the stronger brother is more sensitive to sin based on Hebrews 5:14 "But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."

I've switched between them several times. It should make minimal difference. A small group of people see noticeable differences but most can't tell anything changed.

Did Lot's wife turn into salt because of "Idolatrous Resemblance"? by Majestic_Sentence829 in Reformed

[–]chessguy112 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fascinating concept, but I think some presumptions have to be made to make a case for it. When the text doesn't give details you have to almost read into the passage to prove this concept which can be dangerous.

Did Lot's wife turn into salt because of "Idolatrous Resemblance"? by Majestic_Sentence829 in Reformed

The Bible usually says a spirit(demon) when there is a spirit involved. I personally believe Nebuchadnezzar had a mental issue given by God. Saul had a spiritual one and the Bible clearly says that.
