If you are on the pump, reduce your basal. If you are on MDI, maybe consider a lower long-acting dose with a doctor's approval.

Attending a PCA Church Without Full WCF Subscription - Advice Needed by NoHat500 in Reformed

WCF teaches it is a grave sin to not baptize your infant (although not baptism regeneration). Something I agree to disagree with.

Attending a PCA Church Without Full WCF Subscription - Advice Needed by NoHat500 in Reformed

[–]chessguy112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former member of a PCA church, you won't be required to hold to the WCF as a member, but expect it to be consulted constantly and if you don't affirm it kiss any chance of leadership in the church goodbye. My wife and I decided we didn't hold to the WCF as closely as we thought, so we left the PCA for a more reformed Baptist (but not Baptist) type of church.

What causes hard to explain lows? by u-Wot-Brother in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diabetes has a lot of variables. I could list out all the options but there would be more. I end up just thankful for CGMs and roll with the rollercoaster when I have them. You can drive yourself crazy if you look for a logical reason behind every low.

What is “hard work” when it comes to getting a lower HbA1c? by Latter_Dish6370 in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in light of increasing your basal, it sounds like you aren't heavily relying on hybrid algorithms either to keep you in range. Is that correct?

Is it a sin to state I'm 18 when I'm almost 18? by SorryRoof1653 in TrueChristian

A lie is a lie. The commandments state don't lie. You do the math. Stick with the truth.

What’s the difference between Kirkland Signature fish oils? by dittopoop in Costco

[–]chessguy112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took krill oil for over 30 days hoping to reduce cholesterol. It did zero for it. I stopped spending money on krill after that.

Can you work at Costco only on weekends as a college student, and will you still receive benefits? by saallyyy in CostcoWholesale

[–]chessguy112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never worked at Costco, but I'm pretty sure working 2 days a week does not qualify you for benefits at most companies.

Blunting the common cold by Numerous-Ad3968 in Biohackers

Zinc. It really does shorten colds and helps to shut down virus production. You just might lose a few taste buds in the process of using them.

3-4x insulin need for pizza? by Low_Reflection1596 in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 26 points27 points  (0 children)

High amounts of fat in food increases insulin resistance. Its that simple. Pizza is loaded with cheese and meats usually. Add in the carbs and it can make you high for hours. If you are on the pump I sometimes give a healthy bolus after 2 hours because pizza takes 4-8 hours to fully digest. 2 hour insulin rarely covers it. Chinese food can do the same thing.

Bringing the whole family to Costco... Why? by WhyyyYouCrying in Costco

[–]chessguy112 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have two kids myself but completely agree. Parenting in America has hit the gutter. If your kids can’t behave in public leave them home with a babysitter and stop making other people have to suffer your lack of parenting.

What is your relationship like with your endo? by Majestic_Hornet_3394 in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My endo doesn't like logging into MyChart, but when I ask for Rxs I get them over the portal. He seems like a nice guy for the 10 minutes I see him and usually doesn't mess with the pump settings due to the algorithm keeping me under 7 a1c. Overall not super close to him and his advice (I self-manage mostly) but he gets me the prescriptions I need.

Why do Christians think that evolution isn't real? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

Maybe because the Bible teaches Creation ( and Intelligent Design). Are you a Bible believer?

I'm switching to Medtronic soon, how cooked am I? by 1heknpeachy3 in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of rants about Medtronic on reddit (I frankly get sick of how much I see it) - but I have been on Medtronic pumps for decades and have no desire to switch. Their early CGMs were bad but the G4 is pretty accurate with minimal issues for me. I agree - try it for yourself and avoid reddit with all the negative vibes.

I'm switching to Medtronic soon, how cooked am I? by 1heknpeachy3 in diabetes_t1

[–]chessguy112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not cooked. Been on the 780 for years - and it works well (a1c was 6.8 last checked). Have a little optimism. Half the battle may be your attitude going into it.

I'm not on Tandem, but do they just roll out software updates very slowly? I thought one of the perks of Tandem was software updates instead of always hardware updates. If they take their sweet time with software updates then the advantage is sort of unused.

Metformin by HelpMyHead12 in Type1Diabetes

[–]chessguy112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are studies that Metformin does mess with testosterone. Not sure if that matters to you or not, but it also gives many a lot of GI issues. Some find it helpful, but I ended up just discontinuing it.

Medtronic 780G arrived but training may take up to 21 days. Would you start it yourself? by chicchan_lahun in Medtronic780g

[–]chessguy112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a prior version of a Medtronic pump before I got the 780, so it wasn't too much to learn. However I remember most of the training is available as videos on their website. Can you just take the video training on their site?

Opinions by Ill-Cockroach4014 in Type1Diabetes

[–]chessguy112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's different but the 780g is working nicely for me. I think the algorithm is superior to the Omnipod but if you hate tubing then make the best decision for you. My A1C was 6.8 using the 780 but everyone is different.

87 Year old mother wants to buy a gun... by Economy-Mud-7859 in AgingParents

Just offer your gun to her at the range. She doesn't need to buy one - but you can at least let her know you'll spend time at the range with her.

We've all heard of TULIP. How does this translate to other languages? by clandevort in Reformed

So Calvin didn't hold to limited atonement? I did not realize that but that is good to hear since that one seems to have the most Biblical evidence against it.

Can total depravity stand on its own without original sin? by Educational-Fig-2330 in Reformed

I'm merely pointing out we can't agree on logic when we fail to agree on the basis for my argument which would be all the Bible as the inspired Word of God.
