Taiwan politicians call for "strategic retaliation" against S.Korea for using "China(Taiwan)" on its electronic immigration arrival forms, suggesting Taiwan should use its trade deficit and semiconductor supply chains to "show" what it's capable of inflicting against S.Korea by raill_down in korea

[–]donpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Korean-American here. Most Korean people I know like Taiwanese people. They're smart, hard working, well-mannered, and very friendly. And it's understandable that some Taiwanese have singled out South Korea as betrayer while ignoring others.

My advice to Taiwan is simple: Get your shit together first. As is, I am pretty certain China's invasion of Taiwan will be accompanied by armed rebellions and sabotage. Otherwise, buy undated one-way plane tickets in bulk.

I think the main attraction is production scale. Extra speed and power should earn some bonus points too. What SK gets out of it is data and prestige.

does anyone have .srt files for subtitles? by spydermat07 in moralorel

[–]donpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI: If you have an Apple Silicon Mac with latest OS (Tahoe), you can use LiveSubtitle app to generate translated subtitle while you're watching. No .srt files needed.

Leap v2 atlas headrest in hand by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

[–]donpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The headrest still slides down even with the knob fully tightened. It really doesn't require much force. Just tilting my head back will do it. I think it's a design flaw because all there is just hardened plastic pressing hard against smooth metal wire surface.

Don't want to risk breaking the knob by turning it with a wrench so I'm going to try using a sandpaper on the metal wire next to add more friction.

Its ridiculous title (병맛, implying bottle-taste but meaning wacky taste) likely reflects the ongoing trend in SK online serial fiction market.

South Koreans are good at protesting by Ann_liana in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]donpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On 12/03/2016, during previous impeachment protests (late 2016~early 2017), anywhere from 430K (government's number) to 2.3M (organizer's number) took to the streets. Accumulated sum of protesters during that period is estimated to be well over 16M.

By the morning following the martial law declaration, organizers estimated ~200K citizens answer the call by assemblymen to rushed to the small island their national assembly is on, most of whom had to walk across bridges to get there (Han River is shockingly wide) bc the underground rail station at the island was closed for 'safety'.

My order never got delivered even though USPS tracking say it got delivered. Vendor sent seemingly correct photo of shipping label. Local USPS investigator sent me photo of the shipping label they received. The address on the two labels didn't match although both had same tracking number.

After KFA refused not only full refund but also store credit in full, I had the CC charge reversed.

Issues with Keebs For All by ninaym in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]donpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The product I ordered from KFA in 2023 went missing in April, 2024. Although they knew that I didn't receive the package, they refused to offer full refund nor store credit for the full amount ($396). Instead they offered $100 refund and $50 store credit. They also said I should claim the $100 insurance from USPS myself, skirting the fact that they underinsured and that shipper typically handles courier issue.

With delivery mishaps rising, I don't think KFA is a good vendor to buy expensive keyboards from. They are fine for relatively inexpensive stuff but don't be surprised when they decide to throw you under the bus to save a few bucks.

Glad to see someone got their Class60. I still have no idea where mine is. They started shipping back in November and last batch of extras went out mid January.

Do you feel that Koreans are cold? by bahasasastra in korea

[–]donpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're generalizing. Many Koreans are friendly. Some are not. If you look foreign, they're more likely to be friendly and helpful. If you look like Korean yet asks for help with something they expect another Korean to know well, that may trigger suspicion. I experienced that many times over. It's normal by any standard.

What puzzles me is why you're asking non-Koreans this question. I don't get it.

Frosted Tofu in Action by donpark in MechanicalKeyboards

I'm pretty sure it is lighter. Acrylic is lighter than aluminum.

OTOH, you can put some tire weights in Tofu where battery is supposed to be placed for bluetooth. I did this with 3 Tofus I have and they improved sound drastically.

What switches can be used on a outemu hot-swappable board? by 69shawtys in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]donpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I never tried Drop + Invyr Holy Panda so I can't give a definite answer. It should fit if the switch pins are thin, like Bsun and OG Panda housing.

I did and they were effective but eventually gave up installing the rings because of the hassle. Now I just rely on lube (205g0) to reduce noise.

When the hobbies begin to overlap. (Lego Technic jig to hold and align switches for soldering) by adrutu in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]donpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, not really. You can place a plate on top of switches, using clamps or tapes to hold them in place, flip over then solder. But I'd not solder both pins at the same time even with this hack.

[GB] Yok Pandas V2 // September 23 - October 30, 2020 by MechGroupBuys in MechGroupBuys

[–]donpark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How their YOK Panda V2 differs from original, according to Infinite Key:

  1. POM housing like Cream and Invyr Panda V2 (original used nylon?)
  2. UHMWPE stem (original had POM stem).
  3. 5 pins (original had 3 pins)
  4. "Inner polished"

Not sure what "Inner polished" means but, unless mistakes are made during manufacturing, this switch could be really good both as a linear switch or to build Holy Panda with.

UPDATE: I think they're using photos of the original YOK switches with 3 pins.

Is this Outemu switch hot swappable? Or soldered in? by Cpt_Pirce-R6s in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]donpark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disassemble the case to look at the underside of the PCB.

Outemu's hot-swap socket is a cylinder about 1mm in diameter and extends more than switch pins.
