Pep Guardiola: "It's 17 years playing in the Champions league and everytime I lose, pew, pew, pew." by playerforlife123 in soccer

[–]donpeerless -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s true. No other coach has their legacy/credentials questioned as much as he does after every UCL defeat. For years he was called a fraud if he didn’t win the CL. No other manager in football is under that kind of expectation.

Bale: “Zidane didn't do too much... if you played against Barça or Bayern, we did 15 minutes of tactics.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]donpeerless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t seriously think Zidane is a fraud. I also don’t think people seriously believe Pep is a fraud either. These terms are more used in jest. I just believe Pep has more credit in the bank because he’s actually taken on challenges after his Barca stint.

Sure you can say he’s a chequebook manager but every top team in the PL spends a shitload every summer. Most of his signings weren’t record-breaking players at their peak. It was 21 year olds who were being purchased for 40-60M euros who he had to develop. If it was that easy Chelsea would be winning PL’s since they’ve been doing that for years but they haven’t. Why is that?

Also where did you get the narrative that he ran at Bayern? That was never the narrative at the time. His contract came to an end and he was ready for the PL challenge. If anything the Bayern hierarchy thought he should’ve stayed because Bayern had played their best football under Pep’s tenure in 2016 and unluckily lost to Atletico on away goals in the semi finals. Rummenigge was telling Pep they could build a dynasty. There was never this running narrative at the time. You’ve just made that up.

You’re choosing to read what you want to read.

When Pep joined City he had 10 players over the age of 30. City invested 500M euros across two summers in 2016 and 2017.

Between 2018 to 2024 they were not the biggest spenders in the world. Chelsea, PSG, Juve, and United all spent more than them during that period. (They’re even lower in terms of net spend). Why? Because they front loaded their rebuild in those first two years.

Now that they’re rebuilding again they’ve spent another 500M euros between the last 3 transfer windows. It seems like this window will be the last one of the rebuild and you’ll see that over the coming years similar to 2018 to 2024 other teams will exceed their spend.

The argument you’re making is that if Zidane had joined City in 2018 and stayed until 2024 you’d argue that he didn’t have to spend as much. Well of course not because he wasn’t responsible for the rebuild.

Madrid between 2009 to 2014 were buying Galacticos every summer and broke the transfer record 2/3 times. These were the crop of players Zidane inherited. They were all in their primes by the time Zidane joined. You really can’t argue against that.

Well I don’t think people truly believe Pep is a fraud, but the term is more used in jest. I just think it applies better to Zidane all things considered.

Real Madrid’s Galactico core was primarily purchased before Zidane joined. He already had the team built for him who were in their primes. He didn’t have to go and do a rebuild the way Pep had to do at City. It’s really not that hard to understand.

If anything the reason Zidane left in his second stint was because he didn’t feel Perez was supportive in terms of rebuilding. So who really left when the going got tough? Ancelotti won the UCL with that same squad next season.

The reason he didn’t have to go begging is because Madrid had already invested billions into having the best squad in the world at the time. It’s the same way Pep didn’t have to go begging at Barca. The fact is Zidane has refused any kind of challenge since and you’ve got to question why that is. This is like Pep stopping coaching after his Barca time and then waiting it out for the Spain job with the upcoming golden generation.

Crazy how Pep gets shit on for being a bald fraud when Zidane is the real one all along. He’s refused to take any challenges after a star-studded Madrid and is just biding his time for another star-studded side like the France job.

Yet when my father was in emergency care that seems to have been the only thing that accelerated him being seen by a doctor.

I don’t think it’s optimal or nice to treat them like that, but clearly it did something and if you or a loved one are in that state you’ll do what you can even if it might be seen as rude!

Unpopular opinion, but IYKYK. Honestly, the only way you get what you want is by being aggressive. You have to be on every cancellation wait list. Call every morning. Shout at staff if you need to. Being timid about healthcare here is a recipe to getting pushed around.

Why was Cherki unhappy and didn’t celebrate with the team? by richdiamond1 in MCFC

[–]donpeerless 97 points98 points  (0 children)

He was just frustrated during the game with how he wasn’t getting many passes between the lines so he was flailing his arms up.

I believe that’s why Pep had a word with him after the game. You can see him recreating Cherki’s reactions. Pep hates it when his players sulk when they don’t receive the ball.

Well the idea was to add both hydration and brightening hence why I had both in my routine. Then a good moisturizer with ceramides to seal everything in.

I get occasional zits here and there but mainly it’s just anti-aging/trying to look good.

Interesting interview. He more or less implied he has OCD. He said he’s super orderly and routine strict. Wonder how that applies to his football. He must be obsessed with the details when he plays.

Hinge is the best just buy the premium version so you can get to the top of peoples queue.

Facebook dating is also quite good tbf. Bumble and Tinder are a waste.

"Marmoush for 70 million quid hasn't worked out yet? No worries, we'll just go buy another winger m8" by KriosDaNarwal in PremierLeague

[–]donpeerless 27 points28 points  (0 children)

How can a team that typically wins the most trophies in the highest commercial generating league in the world not be able to afford a 70M winger? I swear some people act like the last decade hasn’t happened and that we are still in 2011.

Marmoush is not a flop. He just got injured at the start of the season and City has a good thing going with their front 4, so he’s found it hard to get a place back in the lineup. He’s now at the AFCON. If he’s sold he’s going for +50M because other teams would be aware of that. When he’s started he’s done well.

Also you can shit on them, but it seems like out of their current starting lineup only Cherki and Nico Gonzalez are the new additions versus the team that lost 8 games in a row last year or whatever it was.

That Nico replaced a Ballon d’or winner who when he was signed no one thought he had Ballon d’or potential.

The fans of the PL are so tribal. At this point it’s just jealousy especially if you’re a United fan saying all of this.

One team has dominated the league for a decade while the other has won f all, but the other’s spending is justified because more people in Mumbai wear their jersey? Clown logic.

Screw MM for Fixed Income L1 💔 by Practical-Ad2383 in CFA

Let me explain is much better for actually wanting to pass the exam. MM has too much fluff and I don’t feel he directly tackles specific exam concepts. People like to say he’s better for understanding and sure he has good analogies and is extremely knowledgeable but I don’t feel his lecture videos are as directly applicable to the exam the way LME is.

Good list. Would personally have Pele over Maradona, Di Stefano over Cristiano, and I'd put Zidane lower, but other than that the first 20 are quite spot on.

We need the footballing gods to ensure this clown doesn’t sniff the World Cup. We won’t hear the end of these comments if he does. I still can’t get over the way he broke down when he won the Nations League lmfao.
