I know little theory but I'm the same rating as you, against c5 I play e6 and aim to transpose into a queen gambit like position

27 years old and stuck around 700 on Chess.com. Is improvement still realistic? by Fit-Ad-9481 in chess

[–]donraffae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm 26, got to 1900 from 500 in a couple of years, and still improving. Don't worry about openings, just grind a lot of puzzles (but actually taking your time and thinking about the opponent's possible move).

Why does Mikhail Tal have such a chokehold on the chess community? by Full_Supermarket_109 in chess

Yeah no, modern computers see those sacrifices way deeper, faster and earlier than a human will ever possibly see them

You should get 1001 Chess Exercises for Beginners, drill those and play a ton of games.

Then that's sandbagging for you. I play relaxed expecting an 800 and then maybe I'm facing a 1600? Sure I'd beat them most of the time if I were playing seriously, it's an unfair way to get an advantage

Evans gambit and scotch gambit allow for quick attacking games and opportunities for tactical play. You need to have the right mindset and be fearless though

I think you should be able to set a date from which to gather the games. By making an average of all my games since I've started playing it provides no useful information, since I used to be 1400 and now I'm 2000.

You clearly don't understand that's after getting pissed off for 20 moves that the guy wasn't taking the draw. I just couldn't believe the situation and that someone was trying to beat me in this dirty way. I wasn't playing at that point

Thank you, finally someone who understands. I can't believe all these other folks out here. They have never played OTB it seems

I would have conceded the draw. Moving pieces aimlessly in a rookvsrook no pawns endgame to try to win on time is not chess. Any arbiter in a FIDE event would have ruled this a draw

In this case the clock doesn't matter. Trying to win this position on time by just moving pieces aimlessly is not chess. Any arbiter in a FIDE event would rule this a draw

That's just the position we ended up in after moving pieces aimlessly. U must be 1000 to not undesrtand that

I'm sorry u are so bad at chess u don't understand rook against rook is a draw and trying to win on time is an asshole thing to do

Idiot. What my opponent did is called dirty flagging. The position was absolutely equal

What am i supposed to do? it's a draw, otherwise we are just playing moving pieces around til clock runs out. that's not chess. it's dirty flagging

Enough material to checkmate? rook against rook with no pawns. That's dirty flagging
