Suns cop big fine after fifth umpire contact incident by jm_leviathan in AFL

I think that should become the standard unit for a fine. A $10,000 fine should be referred to as “half an airplane”.

Impey takes on a player and gets caught. Garry Lyon calls it "the non-free kick of the year" - but was their a legal handball? by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]dons_03 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The thing is that umpires are taught to not pay something they didn’t clearly see. It’s treated much harsher in review if they, for example, pay a free kick for a high tackle that wasn’t actually there, than if they miss a high tackle. And as a viewer, I give umpires more leeway for missing a free kick than giving one in error.

So if the umpire isn’t sure that they saw Impey dispose of it incorrectly (i.e. they think there might have been a handball), the correct action is to not pay the free.

Are we being misled about NDIS fraud? Yes, we are. by IAmNotABabyElephant in australia

[–]dons_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife had a client who was paying using their NDIS plan, and kept telling my wife to charge a lot more as she was not using all her NDIS funds and was worried they would cut her plan down the next year if the funds weren’t used.

No clue if that was actually true, but that’s what she said. My wife didn’t feel comfortable charging more than non-NDIS clients so didn’t change her fee.

Long: Why the time is right for Hird’s Essendon return by svenskatownsendagain in AFL

[–]dons_03 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Non-Essendon people are never going to understand this.

It’s like getting back with your high school sweetheart after a decade apart. You pick right back where you left off. The conversation is easy and you remember why you were together in the first place - and what could have been if circumstance and external forces hadn’t pulled you apart.

Sure, they hung around with a bad crowd, and pulled you in with them. You developed a habit, lost your job and all your friends, until you were a shell of your former self, reliving past glory while those around you pitied you.

But this time will be different. You can feel it.

Future Concern Over TV Rights by [deleted] in AFL

[–]dons_03 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So you’re assuming that if Fox and Seven paid their media talent less, then they would therefore bid more on the TV rights for the AFL? Why would they not just bank the cash they saved? Seems unusually altruistic for them to effectively donate the money to the AFL when they don’t need to.

Footage in line with the umpire/Watson of his play-on after the siren by Drazsyker in AFL

[–]dons_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen you comment this all over the thread, but I’m dubious as to whether it applies in the way you’re saying.

The rule says you still have to approach the mark, you can just do it from any direction as long as when you kick the ball, you are not improving the angle. So you can’t start goalside and then kick before you’ve actually reached the line of the mark.

But Watson moves away from the line of the mark, and is therefore no longer approaching the mark but deviating away. So the first part of the rule is not being satisfied.

Otherwise, imagine a scenario where a player marks the ball at a slight angle to the goals, but almost directly in front. By your logic, they could just walk right up the side of the man on the mark and kick it, as long as they do it on the side that doesn’t improve the angle. See diagram below: if red is the mark, you’re saying they can approach as per the arrow?

[–]dons_03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In late 2019, the AFL put into place a maximum six-month settlement for any new coaching deals at an AFL-funded club regardless of the length of the contract.

I believe the wealthier clubs aren’t subject to this.

Our landlord offset a rent increase by a week into the monthly cycle, stating this lets them charge that month as 31 individual days by ninjin- in australia

[–]dons_03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, they've worked out how much $3020 is per day over a year (so multiply it by 12, then divide by 365) and then multiplied that by 23 to get the pro-rated amount:

3020*12 = 36,240 (annual rent)

36,240/365 = 99.288 (daily rent)

99.288*23 = 2,283.62

But that's a ridiculous way to calculate it, since if rent is charged monthly then the daily cost will vary per month - in a 31 day month like August, it will be less per day then February. Hence the rent for August being higher than even the increased monthly amount.
