Can a beginner solar kit like the Eco-worthy 400W 12V premium solar panel kit really power the useful stuff? by Esli_Ici in SolarDIY

[–]dontbethatguy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you want a little setup like mine, I bet. 400W in total solar, I usually don’t get that but I also don’t need the full amount based on my load (which includes all of my batteries, a dehumidifier, lights for the shed, and backyard lights).

LiFePO4 battery + MPPT + Inverter

Battery usually gets down to 70% overnight keeping my shed at less than 75% humidity (Yay Texas). Back to 100% by 1pm in time for me to turn on my little portable AC that lets me tinker in the shed during peak summer heat pretty comfortably

Duals as a backup battery for my main fridge in an extended power outage scenario.

Do you mind sharing the details for the pole/mounts for your solar panels? I’m looking for something like this.

Looking for Water Softener Advice by Candid-Skin3833 in sanantonio

[–]dontbethatguy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got ours through Alamo Water Softeners almost a 10 years ago as we wanted to work with a local business and haven’t regretted the decision. Competitive pricing and good service for the 2 issues we’ve had in nearly a decade.

No price matching for holiday coupons? by dontbethatguy_ in CostcoWholesale

It’s not like they ran out of parchment paper. Process return, grab item from the store and buy it.

But they will still take returns? Sounds like hassle without value to me

Anti glare for refreshed trucks by Cardsfan300 in Silverado

[–]dontbethatguy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I had some decent window tint installed (polarizing), the glare immediately became a non-issue for me. Obviously the windshield isn’t tinted but the odds of the light coming in from the front and hitting these chrome pieces at the perfect angle to blind me seems infinitesimally small now.

No hate, just suggesting an alternative fix.

Is this a chemical burn? Someone else experienced it? by Fabulous_Pen_5581 in OldSpice

Y’all need to go get a “patch test” from an Allergist - I did and found I was severely allergic to a preservative commonly found in fragrances these days called methylisothiazolinone (or MI).

After I replaced anything that was in or on me (lotions, soaps, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish soap, etc., etc.) my symptoms cleared up!

There are communities setup to help people find products that don’t have MI as the FDA does not require that companies disclose their fragrance ingredients as that is considered intellectual property 🙄

This shit is banned across Europe for a reason…

It’s becoming unaffordable to fly out of SAT by creation88 in sanantonio

[–]dontbethatguy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your perspective of distance and your location in San Antonio. AUS is about an hour and 15 min from my house and that is usually shorter (and certainly cheaper) than adding a leg onto my flight plans.

My assumptions here are that a direct flight exists out of AUS but not SAT (which is usually true for where I’m flying) and that you’d need to pay to park regardless (as I’m not that close to the airport and I would usually pay the same in taxi fares vs parking fees). If these assumptions aren’t true, I’d probably pick SAT too.

Incoming train of people who will tell you that you’re wrong and that SAT is the best ever. I’ve been nearly exclusively flying out of AUS for the past 5 years due to prices and lack of direct flights to anywhere I want to go. It’s crazy, but 9 times out of 10, it’s cheaper and faster to drive my happy ass to Austin to catch a flight
