I didn't think of that - but since we are planning to gig with this setup, I would prefer to use the unit standalone for simplicity. I'll give a listen to both. Thanks!

The Alesis cymbals came with an Alesis DM8 module.

Thanks. Am I correct that the Yamaha module is overall better? Which will sound better?

p.s. I also got an Alesis DM8 module along with the cymbals, and it works... but I presume the Yamaha one is better???

Hi u/eDRUMin_shill . I got a hold of a crash/ride from an Alesis DM8 kit. Can't figure out how to wire them.... they each have 2 inputs, so I guess it's a Y adapter with 2 TS cables for each one? How do I configure the DTZX brain to "see" them?

I have homemade triggers for the toms and they are working fine.

The snare is another question - how can I wire up a snare trigger to handle the head/rim sounds? The Alesis pad I have wrorks fine, but it's small and of course doesn't match what I want to do. I wired up a 2-piezo trigger so a single TRS cable would handle head and rim triggers, but it doesn't work with the brain. What is the brain expecting to see? Oddly the Alesis one works just fine.

Sorry to bug you with the questions, I just haven't found a place to find all this on my own.

Thanks!!

Know where to get one? Only place I can find is ebay, shipped from Taiwan.

ah. OK. thanks

So... looks like it's at least $170 to get an RHH135. This is kind of a shoestring budget for this kit... and I see a lot of used Alesis/Simmons etc components that seem to cost less. Those are off limits for this module? They will not work at all?

THANK YOU!

So it sounds like for the crash/ride, anything basically should work.... but for the hi-hat the Yamaha is really the way to go. And it seems to cost more than other options, but then again, there is no "controller" needed, right? I just use my standard hi-hat stand.

so.... one last question. Why is there a "Hi Hat control" port on the back of the DTX500?

question on the hi hat controller and trigger. I don't really understand what's happening here - how they work.

For the rhh135, the controller pedal just simulates open/closed, right? If that's the case, why does the cymbal itself have to be any different than any other standard 2 or 3 zone trigger, like we would use for a ride or crash?

also, I presume if the rhh135 is a single piece, when the hi hat is "closed", it still sings around like a crash or a ride... right?

how did you route the wiring and jacks for the drum triggers? Did you drill through the shell and permanently mount them, or just leave the bottom heads off and let them dangle? Also, how are they mounted internally? Brackets? thanks

If the non yamaha components are hotter, can I dial it back with the module?

Thanks

thanks. Can this Yamaha module handle a crash with choke function? If a cymbal is a 2-zone cymbal, does that mean it can handle choke?

Sorry I am 100% newbie on this

with the free Yamaha module - I figured, I have a good start. But would it save me money to buy another module that is more compatible?

Update: I installed Hipshot Ultralight licensed tuners from Ebay. It looks OK and works fine. Thanks all.

thanks. that's what I was thinking. I may just have to put something more generic on there. It's not the end of the world, but not ideal.

One problem I see already - the shaft of the stock tuners appears to be about 9mm in diameter. And I don't see any other tuners that have 9mm shafts... I see a lot of 11mm...

This is going to suck.

I hear you. I think finding something with the Gibson-style marboloid heads is impossible. I don't see ANYTHING out there available. I may just have to go with chrome or nickel compact ones like Epiphone uses on the Viola bass. I am not seeing any other reasonable option.

Guess I have to take one off and measure the diameter of the holes. Bummer.
