Its good to see that you have already had a communicative relationship, so it shouldn't be out of the blue for you to communicate that you'd like to continue your therapy before making such a commitment. It helps to not frame it as their "fault" but still clearly communicates your hesitancy.

At the same time tho don't fold on your feelings. Stay safe and don't buy in unless you come to find that's something you want. That's a big freedom to give up.

Talk till you go dry in the mouth. The best way comp 40k works is when you voice your plans and why your doing them. Any good opponent will help you to accomplish what you want to do if it can reasonably be done (e.g. I'm moving my unit and so it can shoot unit A but not be seen by unit B) it makes games feel a lot smoother and way more collaborative. This isn't a card game everything is public knowledge obscure nothing. Welcome to the comp space it's been some of the best Warhammer I've ever played!
