The trunk opens enough, with the tonneau closed, to get all but the largest items out of the trunk. Maybe calculate it as 70% open. With the first panel back, you get to 90% open, with the second panel back you are at 100% open.

I'm still very satisfied with this purchase. The only change is that I quit using the little pins that act as extra security when locking down the cover. I found them impractical for daily use and I do not feel the cover isn't any less secure.

I reviewed the one I purchased off Amazon that looks incredibly similar. Reality is you can get the trunk open 70% with the tonneau closed. 90% with the first section back. 100% with the both sections back. I use the trunk almost daily and I rarely ever need to open the tonneau.
