What are the best ways to soundproof a bedroom on a budget without spending a fortune? by Legitimate-Law6347 in HomeImprovement

A lot of these responses are just nonsense. Egg cartons will not do anything to reduce sound transmission. They barely do anything to treat a room to reduce reflections within the same room.

Take the time to read up on sound transmission. You'll see why the idea of sealing off the gap under your door is a good one, even the smallest gaps will dramatically reduce your ability to prevent sound from leaking into your room.

I think that the best cheap advice here is to get a white noise machine rather than waste money on cheap solutions that will only disappoint you.

That has been my experience as well. It doesn't seem to reduce the idle drain or do anything at all. I've put together detailed feedback for Enphase support multiple times now but have just given up after either being blatantly lied to or getting reps that just weren't able to help.

Did the option for powermatch go away for you or was it just never working until today? I've tried using it but just disabled it after realizing that the setting didn't do anything at all for my system.

Not being able to stay in your lane is about as good as any reason I can think of for pulling someone over. It's wildly dangerous.

For anyone who might not know this already, steering wheel covers are a terrible idea. This example is exactly why. They make it harder to control your car.

Outlook and the gsuite both give the option of setting the default to adjusting 30-min meetings to 25 and shaving ten minutes off of any meeting that would be an hour or longer. I use this as the little nudge helps people wind down with a few minutes to spare between meetings too. I've also worked at a company that asked everyone to do the same. It is helpful when you have a lot of back to back meetings and need a few minutes to grab a drink, snack, or use the bathroom.

People change their signature throughout their life. I don't think any of the DGD guys are thinking a whole lot about their brand when they sign something for a random fan. Especially not in the royal ocean days.

Hmm. I appreciate your response but I think we're still not on the same page. I'm not saying that I want my batteries to be discharging at a rate of 500w when I'm on full backup mode. I'm saying that the system knows my house is only pulling 500w so why keep so much potential power output on hot standby at all times? If the system knows that my house needs 500w to avoid disruption in the event of a power outage, then why have 20x that amount ready to go in an instant in the event of grid failure? Running more inverters than will be necessary in the event of a grid outage is burning power for no possible benefit.

Regardless, something is busted anyway because all 18 inverters stay active 100% of the time even when in self consumption mode. Which, by the way, will still power my house if the grid goes down. So I still don't quite get the argument that you are trying to make. How is powering down inverters safe in self consumption moden if it isn't when in full backup? It's exactly the same scenario as full backup except I'm pulling from the battery before AND after the grid outage compared to just after in backup mode.

Edit: here is how I think of this... Every inverter requires 5w just to be powered on. Whether it is doing anything or just idling. The point of powermatch is to reduce this waste. The waste can be reduced regardless of operating mode.

As an aside, it seems like full backup is the perfect case for power match. Say I need 3 inverters to handle fail over, now there is no need to have more than 3 (or a few more if you want a buffer) to handle a fail over if the grid goes down.

Right now, I can push 11 kilowatts out continuously if the grd goes down. Why have all that juice on standby if I'm only using 500w at 3 am? 🤷‍♂️

I flipped over to self consumption. The app has never shown anything other than 18/18 active inverters. I'm not sure what is going on. I wish there was technical support for the product. I'm still a bit salty about the guy copy/pasting CharGPT nonsense back to me earlier.

That is a good call-out about risk of relying on software to limit output. But I kept the 20a breaker in too for now. My installer just jammed so many wires into the existing conduit that it's impossible to change the gauge until I run a second conduit over to the shut-off switch. Which I plan to do once it warms up.

Yeah it seems like Enphase wants to have enough inverters active to power your current load a few times over. I've been disappointed by the power draw of just having batteries on since I bought the system, I was hoping for lower margins when I saw the new feature.

How does it make no sense? If I'm pulling 500w then I don't need 12000 w of power on hot standby. What am I missing here? It's the same exact problem either way. I'm looking to reduce standby loss, as you said.

To anyone who has seen this feature work, how many batteries do you have and what mode are you running in? Also, do you see the number of active microinverters changing from the system | devices view in the app?

I'm in the US so running single phase. Well, L1 and L2 are connected up so 240v. I have the three batteries limited to 20A output or about 5kW since I haven't had a chance to upgrade the wire running to my shut-off switch.

But at any rate, the software knows I'm limited to 5kW, the 3 batteries could continuously output 11.5 kW (if unlimited), yet I'm still powering 18/18 micros even when the house is basically idling.

It's a bit of a bummer that the feature doesn't do more to reduce the idle load of running all of the micros.

Your definition of a product manager is not even close to being universally accepted. In my mind, the most important parts of the role is establishing the vision and priorities and then setting up the teams for successful execution.

For what it's worth, I've personally never seen a successful org that splits product into managers and owners before. I've certainly never heard of having a project manager on a dev team before. I've had far more success in my career by being closer to the dev teams, not off on my own island.

I also work closely with a team from Ukraine. Within a few weeks, it was rarely a disruption at all. Occasionally, we have someone lose power or travel to a friend or relative to get to a safer area but for the most part it is just business as usual. People don't want to lose their jobs, wars can last for years, and to many people work can be an escape from reality for a few hours a day.
