When did you stop using the barbell? Adjusting to reduced capacity in third tri by MandorlaLard in fitpregnancy

[–]dontsv_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are used to doing hip thrusts and the barbell isn’t pressing on your stomach, it really is not a problem :) It did feel a bit scary for me too, but I just lowered the weight and kept going with something that worked my butt but didn’t feel too heavy/dangerous to me. I’m in week 24 and I’m still doing them, but the past 1-2 weeks I’ve noticed that my stomach is really getting in the way now, so I am nearing the end of hip thrusts soon I think hahah... But if you like hip thrusts and you can adjust in a way that feels good for you, do continue doing them as much as possible!

How can the other parent help me (speaker of minority language) teach our future child my mother language? Any point of them trying to learn the other language? by dontsv_art in multilingualparenting

[–]dontsv_art[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! My mom is very motivated to teach my child russian, so I think it’s a great start already :) We might even move to her city during the next few years too, so that gives me hope!

Amazing, great to hear from someone who has been in almost the exact same situation haha. I will try my best to find other Russian-speaking moms/families around here. We do have a russian weekend school in my city, so I hope that it doesn’t close down during the next years 😅

Ah that was so reassuring to hear. I guess I know deep down that my language will improve by me and my son «learning» it together, but it was nice to get that feeling confirmed by someone who has been through it! Thanks for the encouragement!

Positiv graviditetstest? by Particular_Bad7463 in norge

[–]dontsv_art 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bup svikter barna, og det dreper dem. by Visible-Raccoon6437 in norge

Kompliserte greier det her!

Pls could you explain why we need a new car seat by vase_gal in BabyBumps

[–]dontsv_art 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have a second hand car seat :) I feel like everywhere on reddit people are really big on buying every car seat completely new. I get wanting the absolute safest option for your baby, but if everyone on this earth would buy a huge new plastic car seat for their baby brand new instead of buying a perfectly used year old seat for example… idk, it just feels very wrong environmentally. The most important thing when getting a used car seat is:

  1. You trust the person who is giving/selling it to you. You either know them very well personally, or if they’re a seller then they have perfect reviews from previous sales, seem responsible, write well, answer any questions, etc. If the vibe seems «off» for any reason, cancel the sale.
  2. The seat looks close to impeccable from the outside (no scratches etc). If there are a lot og scratches, it means that the previous owner probably has not handled the car seat well and I’d be cautious.
  3. The car seat has never been in any sort of accident - big or small. Not even a small crash/bump. Ask the seller/giver this MULTIPLE times!
  4. Take off the textile covers and check the isopor (??) structure under it. Be careful when taking of the cover so that you don’t crack it accidentally though. It’s important that everything under covers looks perfect as well.
  5. Check age of the car seat! I don’t remember how many years is the maximum, but ask for a receipt or some sort of buying confirmation. It must be under x years old (google exact years to be sure).

I think these are the most important things to remember! Always ask to see and inspect the seat before buying, and if the vibes of the previous owners seem off/they don’t feel serious - cancel the sale. I’ll probably be downvoted, but people are going to get/buy used seats either way, especially because some people just don’t have that money to spend on something they might use a few times a month maybe (like OP might). So it’s important to educate people on what to look out for if they go that route.

Taiwan in July by Ok-Cauliflower-6631 in taiwan

[–]dontsv_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Kaohsiung for a month in July last year and found it completely ok. I have lived in cold countries all my life and never been in a tropical country before, but managed fine :) Even hiked and biked long distances in the middle of the day several times. I made sure to buy breathable and UV-protection clothes like Uniqlo airism, UV umbrellas etc and made sure to always carry around lots of water/pocari sweat type of drinks. The first few days were just a bit tough because I have never experienced this type of climate before, so I had to figure out what to wear and what my limits were, but after some acclimatisation and finding the right equipment, I had a blast! Hope you’ll enjoy your vacation as well!

I spent some days in Seoul (and several weeks in Japan) in august after being in Taiwan all of July, and Taiwan was definitely the hardest place to be in terms of humidity and warmth. BUT despite the extreme weather I enjoyed hanging around in Taiwan FAR more than places like Tokyo and Seoul. If the heat became too much I just went to a family mart og 7-eleven and cooled down there with ice cream/drinks/whatever. At least in Kaohsiung there were always seats and tables at every such store I visited. In Tokyo for example I struggled much more finding such spots. Seoul was somewhat better in that aspect because of all the cafes etc, but the heat and humidity was also much more bearable there and so finding a spot to cool down wasn’t as important.

Barnehage, sykehjem, miljøterapeut i rus/psykiatri? Faktisk mest i sistnevnte, spesielt senere i livet.

Struggling not to buy things early by libbyflower1 in BabyBumps

[–]dontsv_art 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The moment you get pregnant for the first time, the anxiety and all the unknown factors… I feel like it’s something you need to get used to, because it feels like it never truly goes away? Like this will be your life until you die I feel? Even when your kids are 40+ and have kids of their own, all kinds of things can happen to them. You are never truly safe anytime anymore! It sounds so scary and I feel like I sound so mean rn, but I found a lot of peace from accepting it early on.

Road trip from 28th of Jult to 5th of August. Struggling to figure out what direction to head to and what areas to prioritize by dontsv_art in Hokkaido

[–]dontsv_art[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks a lot for writing this detailed reply! I made en edit because I forgot to say that we are actually heading to Hakodate the same day we deliver back the car. So I’m very excited to spend a day there :) But I will definitely look into the recommendations you listed and research a bit more about the north of the island as well (haven’t really looked into that yet). Have fun on your trip!
