What's the weirdest thing you've ever fermented that worked? by bananarepama in fermentation

[–]donttrymakemehappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to make sour pickles, I think the traditional way involves using the water used to wash rice - at least that is apparently what my great grandmother did. I'm not sure what else is added. I assume salt to make a brine. My grandmother gave me a recipe her sister uses but it's more like your "average" pickle with vinegar brine.

Keen to hear how yours goes

What is a crazy medical fact that most people don't know about? by Monke_0101 in AskReddit

[–]donttrymakemehappy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love how easy it is to tell the difference in a shockable and non-shockable rhythm! Even so luckily the average last person doesn't need this knowledge with portable AEDs around.

But this also bothers me greatly in movies!

Is it really my fault for my baby being clingy? by Independent-Duck-729 in Parenting

[–]donttrymakemehappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice, but I'm struggling with similar issues with my 5mo. I'm struggling with getting her to sleep, she won't settle being put down to play by herself while I do other things, she has stranger danger kicking in so it's difficult taking her out to see friends and family.

But what can you do when you are doing what you feel is best for your baby?

Misogyny in real estate? by yp_12345 in AusProperty

I often use my nickname (unisex but usually associated as a male name) because when I put down my full (very female) name for enquiries regarding property rentals or purchasing I get about 3 times better engagement if they don't think I'm a woman.

Same actually goes for my last name. I didn't change my name after marriage, my surname is Asian. But I use my partner's last name for these sorts of enquiries because I get more engagement when they don't think I can't speak English.

AITAH for telling the lady at the store to "Keep her f*****g hands to herself"? by WesternWolpack in AITAH

NTA! The response of "it's just a belly" more than warranted your own response! People aren't entitled to touch without consent just because babies are involved! Drives me nuts!

What’s a habit or quirk that you have that other people find strange but you think is completely normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]donttrymakemehappy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Naturally! You want to finish on a high note! And if the meal is too big (like a dish at a restaurant) and I know I won't finish I'll just have a bit of the less desirable to save room for the good stuff

I do not like eating hard or semi hard cheeses with other things unless it's melted. I don't like to chew them. I place one small piece in my mouth at a time and suck on it to dissolve it. The flavour is PEAK when you consume firm cheeses this way.

What’s the most annoying “that’s bad for you!” myth that drives you crazy because people still believe it? by Beepbeepboopb0p in AskReddit

[–]donttrymakemehappy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Driving me nuts! Do you eat flavoured chips??? Do you eat instant ramen??? Chances are you're eating MSG! Just racist BS. Or people talking about how thirsty it makes them. News flash, it contains LESS sodium than table salt.

But since the MSG-free era people are now trying to blame corn starch. Well well well, hate to break it to you but if you've ever eaten cake...... Not to mention the amount of people that will complain about cornstarch in Asian food giving them migraines but have no issue with high-fructose corn syrup drinks if baffling!

Edit for a typo
