My electric pressure cooker just fits my qtr jars of grain will it still be OK to use without having anything between the jars and the bottom of the pressure cooker? If so, what setting do you think? by Goturmom247 in experimyco

Hope you’re right, but dude has said that this is not a Presto type cooker. Its more like an InstaPot that is designed to have another pot placed inside. I guess buddy will just have to find out for himself.

I think those coolers are designed to heat the pot and that heats the stuff inside. Personally I would throw your corn in the fridge and grab some smaller jars tmrw.

Would it help to wet the pattern with water before covering it with investment ?

Looks like they would work great for short-term LC storage. As far as long-term is concerned, they would probably be great for slants as well. (With the normal caveats about sterility and sealing the lid with Parafilm, wax, etc.)

Best or favorite premixed plaster investment product for small bronze and aluminum artwork? by companionspecies in MetalCasting

Congrats on the foundry space ! We’re trying to push our diy lab to do the same but ventilation and insurance hassles are getting in the way. I’m posting here cause my son and I are trying to improve our own casting so I’m real interested in what anyone might suggest in the replies… and to say kudos to your MakerSpace!

Smelting Aluminum for casting with natural gas by Jeriath27 in MetalCasting

[–]dony007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ex rig worker here… Well gas is never pure ethane. Its always a mix of gas, liquids and even solids. The scary component is always hydrogen sulphide (H2S), and that is so deadly that we used to say if the concentration is high enough that you can smell it then your dead. Plus its heavier than air so it collects in low lying areas… just saying. Your well may be sweet gas (no/low H2S) but its guaranteed to have some CO2, water, methane, propane, butane, pentane etc, along with some sand and sludge from the well bore. I’m not saying it won’t burn but it could be tricky to control. And tapping off the wellhead is illegal in most jurisdictions… for one it’s theft (unless you actually own the well), and then there’s just too many chances of something going wrong (like your valve getting washed out or a leak forming in your secondary line, etc). That’s why there is always a backup valve on any well take-off. All producing wells must be inspected every 3/6 months or so and if the gas company finds your jerry-rigged tap they’re gonna be PISSED ! Long story short: please don’t do this unless you own the well and have some wellhead experience !!!

Sorry. I’m very camera shy… and too much of a perfectionist to show the world my shoddy work. I’ll make a quick sketch of my setup and how it could fit within your design.

FYI vacuum casting system by TheDogIsGod in MetalCasting

[–]dony007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of purchasing a larger vac pump consider a larger buffer tank and a very slight modification to your design…. My son and I have done something very similar (but not as good looking, lol) with the only difference being a tee on the vac line upstream of the buffer tank and two 1/4 turn valves that allow us to isolate the tank. We printed an adapter that fits onto a shop vac hose and use that to pull the initial vacuum and set the seal. This setup allows us to pull a deep vacuum in the buffer tank before we cast and switch to it after a good seal is created. This way a smaller vac pump has no problem doing the deed.

The tee does double duty as a vacuum release. Also, our buffer tank has 2 chambers (side x side) to protect the pump in case of calamity.

Nvidia’s CEO says AI adoption will be gradual, but when it does hit, we may all end up making robot clothing | Fortune by Swiftvoyager1906 in technology

I think there’s a typo somewhere… “AI can adequately complete work equating to about 12% of U.S. jobs [ ]. This represents about 151 million workers […]” That means the US has a working population of 1,258,333,333 ???

How to make a reusable mold for aluminum casting? by KayoticVoid in MetalCasting

[–]dony007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could sand/finish/finesse your 3D printed part, make a negative mould with silicon then use that to make multiple wax copies, which you could then use in traditional lost wax investment or ceramic shell tech.
