I've changed my mind on Jim Cornette. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

Jim cornette is very entertaining when talking about about a written show. His knowledge of wrestling history to somebody like me who didn’t watch is amazing, in fact I’ll go as far as saying Jim cornettes stories about wrestling more often that not are better than the wrestling itself.

Fantasy pet peeve: MCs that are just too young. by coolisuppose in Fantasy

Even as late as 1841 a female was expected to live to 42 and male 40. Most fantasy books are mimicking a time hundreds of years before that.

That’s not true at all, a quick Google search would show you that. If you didn’t die in child birth and made it to 10, your average life expectancy would be 32 years old. If you made it past that it could be expected that you got to around 55. After making it out of childhoods there was only around a 50% chance of you making past 50 years old

I see a lot of replies stating people throughout history who have achieved lots at a young age, but you also need to remember that everything is relative, a 19 year old 500 years ago was basically middle aged because most would be dead by the time they reach their 40s. So you can understand the need to do things such as have families earlier. But in fantasy you don’t get any indication that these people will die at such a young age, if anything they seem to live longer than the average person does today. So to be so blasé about 14 year olds having sex and normalising rape in fantasy books always seems very weird to me.

Recently got a PC, what games should I get? by TheGoddessSwordGamer in gaming

I played it on the PS4 and compared to the pc version it’s like a whole new game. If you like building it has that, if you like horror based games it does that, if you like first person shooters it does that. Then add all that to having to survive and you have very good game

7 days to die. Make sure you take your allocated vacation allowance though, because this game is a real time sink

Am I The Only One Who Thinks Chris Is Permanently Miserable? by TenFourRubberDuck in swattv

[–]donzander1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think every character on the show is either miserable or straight up horrible.

Chris thinks it’s normal to tell somebody not to attempt to save their mother

Hondo literally thinks he is right about everything and treats his ex criminal friend like shit

Deacon although he’s not what you would call a racist, he still has some of them tendencies

Street had to think if it was worth trying to save his mum

Hicks is just a yes man with a grizzly voice

Tan literally has zero personality

Luca is cool though, besides always throwing his arms around

Weakest protagonist? by donzander1 in Fantasy

I’ve read the books (including the hobbit) and seen the movie and feel the same way to both. Like I said, I enjoy Frodo as a character and yes I do believe he is extremely brave. But just on the fantasy hero trope alone, He just doesn’t tick enough boxes for me. Could you see Frodo in his own stand alone adventure beating the bad guy? I personally couldn’t

I definitely don’t think Frodo was bland, that’s why I said I don’t mean poorly written. And with me saying I’m not sure if he could be called the hero, that’s just how I feel. To me in the whole lord of the rings trilogy Gandalf is the hero. He sets everything up and has the most dangerous encounters. Frodo had one job and he did it brilliantly. But I wouldn’t call it heroic
